ASSIST (www.assist.org) is an online student-transfer information system that shows how course credits earned at one
public California college or university can be applied when transferred to another. ASSIST is the official repository of
articulation for California’s public colleges and universities and provides the most accurate and up-to-date information
about student transfer in California
Exploring Majors is an ASSIST site that helps students explore majors offered at UC and CSU campuses. It provides
several paths you can take to learn about specific majors, requirements for majors, major preparation at community
colleges, and transferring courses to the University of California or California State University.

Transfer info: www.futurestudents.ucr.edu
Major info www.ee.ucr.edu, www.engr.ucr.edu/studentaffairs/transfers.shtml or call the college at (951) 827-3647.
ƒ Use this major sheet as an initial reference only. UCR does an outstanding job posting the most current and relevant
information on ASSIST.
ƒ Admission to the engineering major is competitive. As indicated on ASSIST, certain course preparation is required
prior to transfer. Students must attain a GPA of at least 2.80 in all UC transferable course work. In addition, a GPA
of at least 2.50 in the calculus sequence, and in at least one additional sequence (for example: chemistry, physics, or
biology) is also required.
ƒ Lower division major preparation and courses required for admission should be prioritized ahead of completion of
breadth requirements. IGETC is not appropriate for this major. Chaffey courses acceptable towards fulfilling the
College of Engineering breadth requirements are listed on ASSIST.
ƒ Applications to the Engineering majors listed are accepted for fall and winter quarters.
ƒ “Courses required prior to transfer” are essential to the student’s successful transfer. Students who are unable to
complete these critical courses at Chaffey are encouraged to consider completing the course(s) at another community
college, or through UCR summer session or concurrent enrollment, prior to transfer.
ƒ Courses identified as “recommended” meet lower division coursework requirements. Completion of this coursework
prior to transfer will facilitate a student’s readiness for upper division work, allowing the student to finish all degree
requirements within two years of enrollment at UCR (provided that satisfactory progress and a full-time study load is
maintained.
ƒ Community college courses acceptable towards fulfilling the College of Engineering breadth requirements, as they
pertain to this major, are listed on ASSIST. Completion of lower division major preparation should take precedence
over completion of breadth requirements.
ƒ Refer to ASSIST : www.assist.org for recommended courses prior to transfer by area of emphasis and general
education/breadth requirements.
