The Cambridge International

Examinations Program

The Cambridge Program is an innovative and accelerated process of academic study offered solely through the Cambridge International Examinations, part of

Cambridge Assessment, a department of the University of Cambridge.

What makes the Cambridge International Examinations

Program stand out from other accelerated programs?

Strong foundation in key areas to help your child become critical thinkers and problem solvers.

Inquiry and project based focus asks students to look at real world issues and develop hypothesis and prove them; they become scientists, environmentalists, and economists.

Support from key school staff to help you be successful and keep you on track.

Who is successful in the Cambridge International

Examinations Program?

 Students who are self motivated.

 Students who work collaboratively.

but also,

 Students who can work independently.

Students who value the process of investigation.

 Students who are reflective.

Students who have proven in the past, though grades and testing, that they want to push themselves to the next level.

Confident in working with information and ideas – their own and those of others.

The Cambridge

Difference

The Cambridge curriculum stands out because of its philosophy on how to teach. With a focus on inquiry and project based learning, our teachers will lead your child through the curriculum with well-constructed lessons and activities that prepare students for the rigor of college.

Engaged intellectually and socially, ready to make a difference.

These questions will help develop your child’s curiosity and engagement as well as critical thinking skills.

Innovative and equipped for new and future challenges.

Cambridge

Learner

Attributes

Reflective as learners, developing their ability to learn.

Responsible for themselves, responsible to and respectful of others.

We think the

Cambridge curriculum is superb preparation for university.

An International Program

The entire curriculum has been developed with a focus on global awareness and current issues that people around the world are facing.

These lessons are developed by master teachers from every corner of the world. Thinking globally is absolutely necessary to be competitive in today’s job market. Students will have opportunities to connect with students throughout the world to discuss and collaborate on academic and global issues. Opening the world in a positive and thoughtful manner to your child is one of the many reasons why we selected the Cambridge International Examinations Program.

Cambridge Course Offerings 2015-2016

Our middle school students will receive the foundational pieces that are imperative to greater success in high school and college. Each level builds upon the last to help your child grow and learn. The five learner attributes are embedded in each lesson, encouraging your child to become a critical thinker and a problem solver.

Cambridge Requirements

Students are required to maintain C’s in all classes, have no major or multiple honor code infractions, and no major or multiple discipline issues to remain in the program.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School

District’s Cambridge Commitment

CMS regards the Cambridge International Examinations Program as one of many choices for our students. We believe that by offering choices to our students, we are inviting them to become active participants in their education. To do this we have created a multiyear plan for the implementation of the Cambridge International

Examinations Program. This timeline allows us to add classes and train teachers as we progress to capacity. By taking our time and doing it correctly, we allow for our schools to prepare for the program effectively. This includes resources for teacher training, text books, and testing.

Teacher Training

All of our teachers are trained through multiple venues. Teachers are required to complete over fifty hours of training from Cambridge

International Examinations Program trainers, as well as participate in online forums with teachers from all over the world throughout first year of teaching in the program. These trainings, as well as 24 hour online support to help with questions and ideas, allow our teachers to prepare your child in the best and most effective way possible.
