The audit will show the home owner problems that may, when corrected, save significant amounts of money over time. An Electric Services’ auditor can pinpoint where your house is losing energy. An audit will help you understand the efficiency of your home’s heating and cooling systems, look at how sound your windows and doors are, inspect insulation levels, show you ways to conserve hot water and electricity, and help identify leaks in the building’s envelope. HOW IT WORKS TERMS AND CONDITIONS Electric Services will send a certified energy professional to your home who will use a variety of techniques and equipment to determine your energy efficiency level. In addition to a walk through of your home, the auditor will perform a blower door test that measures the extent of leaks in the building envelope. Participants must be City of Ames Electric Services customer. In addition, as part of the audit process, free compact fluorescent light bulbs will be installed. APPLYING FOR AN AUDIT To qualify for City of Ames Electric Services’ Smart Energy Residential Audit Program your home must have been built in or before 1992, and you cannot have had an energy audit performed within the past five years. Residence must be built in or before 2000. Homes built after 2000 will still be eligible for the free energy audit, but will not be offered a blower door test. In these cases a blower door test may be purchased at the price available to Electric Services. Those participating in another energy audit program within the past five years are not eligible. Free compact fluorescent bulbs will be installed flow by the auditor while on site. Renters must have owner’s approval. Participant will be contacted to establish a time for the audit.
