an emergency situation exists that involves imminent physical danger
or a school staff person authorizes the students to do otherwise.

limited to, posing a threat to academic integrity or violating confidentiality or privacy rights of
another individual.

Help your Student be Successful in
Math class and Pass the EOC
Students who have their own calculator in math class every day will learn how to use the functions and features of their calculator. As students advance into Geometry and above, there are units that require a calculator. Students without one get frustrated, behind, and start to struggle or give up. Students who are comfortable and familiar with their calculator will be more confident and successful during daily math work and on
any math assessment including the End of Course Assessments, PSAT, SAT and, ACT.
ALL Students enrolled in a math course will be required to have their own calculator.
Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 classes require a scientific calculator with the basic trig functions (sin,
cos, tan), square root function and, log function. A graphing calculator is highly recommended for Algebra 2
students.
AP Stats, AP Calculus, Pre Calculus and, College Algebra classes require a graphing calculator. We recommend the TI-83 Plus. If your student is college bound this is the only calculator they will need.
Smart phones are great tools and have excellent “apps” but they are not allowed on the EOC, SAT, or in our
math classes. The calculator costs less and will last longer than most smart phones.
Additional Recommended Supplies:
Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 classes need a quad ruled composition notebook. (These can be found at
most office supply stores. They tend to run out during September so your best bet is to get one PRIOR to the
start of the year.) A ruler and a protractor are recommended for Geometry.
