I wish to welcome all new and returning families to our Eisenhower Community.
The 2012-2013 school year will be exciting in and out of the classroom. Please keep
an open line of communication with your child's teacher and support the PTA when

Eisenhower Information
Bus - Durham School Services .................................................................................. 563-386-1436
School bus services are provided to the Davenport Community School District by Durham School
Services. Buses pick up and drop off students in the front of the building in the designated lading area.
No parent vehicles are allowed in the bus loading area. Questions about bus route and other bus issues
should be directed to Durham School Services.
All Durham buses have cameras in the front and rear of the bus to monitor student behavior. Our Eagles
are to follow the following bus rules: 1. Enter the bus and sit in your assigned seat until the drop off site is
reached. 2. Talk quietly to the person sitting next to you. 3. Keep feet, hands, objects, and comments to
yourself. 4. No food or drink is allowed to be consumed on the bus. Failure to follow these rules will
lead to suspension of bus privileges.
Reporting Absences .................................................................................................... 563-355-2604
When a child is absent, the parent/guardian should call the school the morning of the absence by 8:00AM.
If the child is sick, the parent/guardian must give two symptoms of the illness. Children planning to be
out of school at parent request should have prior approval of the principal. You may email absences to
desmithj@davenportschools.org &/or richardsp@davenportschools.org.
Tardy
Students not in their classrooms at 8:00AM are considered tardy. Students must get a late pass from the
office to be admitted to class. We expect 95% attendance from all students which means no more than 9
absences or 9 tardies in a school year.
Service Fees
Services fees are assessed every August and can be paid in full at registration or unpack your backpack
night or split into two payments, one due in August and one due in January. Fee statements will be sent
home in January for any family not up-to-date on payment of fees.

Food and Nutrition Services uses a computerized point of sale system in the cafeteria. Payments to the
student’s meal account may be made before school, or money may be deposited via the internet at
www.davenportschools.org. There is transaction fee to add funds to your account online, but there is no
charge to register, view your account online. You must have signed up for Parent Portal access to access
your account online. Any questions about student lunch accounts, contact Traci Hensel at 355-3516.
Any questions about the Food Service Program and product, please contact the District’s Food &
Nutrition Office at 386-4780.
 Breakfast served 7:30AM -7:50AM (All Grades)
 Lunch served 11:15AM - 11:40AM (K, 2nd, 4th) and 11:40AM - 12:05PM (1st, 3rd, 5th)
 Wednesday lunch times vary due to early out days.
School Closings
It is the policy of the Davenport Community School District to be open for classes every scheduled day
for the scheduled number of hours. In the case of severe weather, a decision to close or delay school prior
to the opening of the school day will be made before 5:45AM and communicated through local media. A
decision to dismiss early will be made by approximately 10:00AM. Please do not call the school for
information regarding school closings or early release. Tune in to your local radio or television station
for details, or you may sign up for text alerts through the Family Museum.
Visitors
Visitors are always welcome. Please check in at the office for a visitor’s pass. Please make arrangements
with the teacher for extended visits. We have designated “Eat Lunch with Your Child(ren)” weeks but
parents/guardians are always welcome to visit.
Student Planners
Student planners are expected to be taken home daily. Please see your student’s teacher with questions.

Eisenhower Information
Lost and Found
Children who have lost belongings should check the office and/or the Lost and Found area by the
north entrance (by the gym). All valuables and money should be brought to the school office
including electronic devices and cell phones for safe keeping.
Electronic Devices and Cell Phones
Electronic Devices are to be left at home. If a teacher allows electronic devices to be used in the
classroom, then the use of the electronic device must be limited to that classroom. Cell phone
use during the school day is prohibited. To stop the temptation of students using the phones and
to help keep them safe, we ask that students check their phones into the office before school and
then check them out after school. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen electronic
devices or cell phones NOT checked into the office.
Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
Students are allowed to arrive at school beginning at 7:30AM. Prior to 7:30AM we do not have
adult supervision and it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to ensure the students’ safety
and well-being. Children coming to Eisenhower to have breakfast in the morning are allowed to
enter the building through the north doors beginning at 7:30AM. If we have inclement weather
(rain or temperatures below 15° with the wind chill factor), students will go to the halls outside
of their classroom.
Parents/guardians should make prior arrangements with their student about dismissal. Bus riders
will head directly to the bus upon dismissal. Students are not allowed to ride the bus with
classmates on a bus other than their assigned bus. Walkers will exit the building upon dismissal
and follow their agreed upon route home. Students being picked up will meet their parents in a
designated spot or follow the drop off/pick up procedure outlined by Eisenhower Elementary
where students wait in the gym to be called and are escorted out to their ride home. For a copy
of the pick up procedure please contact the office.
Health Services & Procedures
A child may be sent home from school for a fever, signs of communicable disease, or an injury.
All children with fever 100 degrees or greater should remain home until fever free for 24 hours
without fever reducing medication.
If any medication must be given during school hours, the school requires a statement signed by
your physician stating the name of the medication, dosage, time to be given, and for how long.
Non-prescription medication ordered by a parent or guardian may be administered when the
registered nurse determines that the use of over-the-counter medication is the appropriate care
for the student. This medication should be clearly labeled with your child’s name and homeroom
number. STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CARRY MEDICATION WITH THEM AT
ANY TIME with the exception of physician and parent/guardian approved constricted airway
relieving medication.
If for some reason your student cannot participate in P.E., a note from a physician stating the
reason and length of time that s/he cannot participate is required.
Updating Household Information
If a student will be moving out of the Eisenhower attending area, please notify the school as soon
as possible to allow adequate time to assemble records and information necessary for the student
to enroll in a new school. All textbooks and IMC materials should be returned before the last
day of attendance.
If the household has a change of address or any change in contact information, please inform our
office immediately so that we can update our records. Failure to notify the office of a move midyear could jeopardize your child’s status at Eisenhower. Contact the office with any questions
about updating personal information and students’ contacts.

Site Council is the governing, decision-making body of Eisenhower School. It is composed of
grade level and special area representatives, para-educators, and a PTA representative.
Site Council meets monthly throughout the school year. All individuals are encouraged to share

Birthday Invitation Guidelines
Please use these guidelines for passing out invitations at school.
 Inviting the whole class: (preferred Method)
1. Send an adequate number of unaddressed invites to the school with your child and make a note in
your child’s planner to pass them out in class.
 Inviting individual children:
1. Use your student directory to mail invites to the students’ homes or contact the parents.
2. Meet your child at the school upon dismissal and pass out the invites with your child to the
individuals privately.
