Lab Engineer/Lab Manager (AP Faculty) for the School of Engineering at James Madison University The School of Engineering at James Madison University is searching for a Lab Engineer/Lab Manager. This is an Administrative Professional (AP) faculty position. The JMU Engineering program focuses on sustainability, engineering design, and systems analysis with a strong basis in project-oriented, hands-on laboratory, studio, and shop experiences. We are seeking highly organized applicants familiar with general industrial and machine shop practices, procedures, and safety with an ability to specify, order, install, and manage a diverse range of high and low tech equipment, tools, and supplies. A masters level of education, or equivalent industry experience, in engineering, technology, science, or a related field is required. Successful candidates will be able to provide general and specific support and oversight of laboratories, studios, and shop facilities associated with the School of Engineering as part of the Engineering faculty and Laboratory Operations teams. As an active and integral member of the Engineering teaching team, the applicant should be prepared to provide instruction and support through direct and indirect involvement in laboratory, studio, and shop-based teaching as well as classroom, small group, and individualized instructional activities. The successful candidate must demonstrate that they can function as a team member within an interdisciplinary program. Essential elements in developing this new program include the development of a unique culture and character among the faculty, staff, and students that includes creativity, flexibility, and innovation. Familiarity with general industrial and machine shop practices and procedures, and an ability to work with Engineering faculty, laboratory support personnel, student assistants, and students to ensure the safe and effective operation of engineering laboratories, studios, and shop facilities is essential. Knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) packages (e.g., SolidWorks and AutoCAD), Rapid Prototyping, and welding (TiG, arc, oxyfuel) is preferred. Candidate will be expected to instruct students to operate machine tools including (but not limited to) lathe, manual knee mill, band saw, and drill press as well as assist students in the construction of physical prototypes using Rapid Prototyping equipment, machine tools, and metal fabrication equipment.
