1.0 Introduction
This user guide was developed to be a reference for operating the touch panel that controls the AV system
found in Center for Graduate Studies LL17. The instructions in this guide were specifically written for
that space. All of the controls that are needed to integrate the AV equipment together can be accessed via the
touch panel.

2.0 Turning the System On
2.10 Approaching and Waking the System Up
Most likely the screen on the touch panel will be blank when approached (Figure 2.10), as a result of the
system sitting idle for a period of time. Touch the screen anywhere to wake the system up. Once the
system has been woken up from being touched, the startup screen will appear (Figure 2.11). To turn the
system on, touch the “Press Here To Start System ” button.

2.20 Starting the System
Once the “Press Here To Start System” button has been touched, the system will begin to start, and a screen
with the message “System is initializing. Please stand by.” will appear as well as a progress bar below it
(Figure 2.20). After the system has finished starting up, the next screen that appears will be the Main Menu,
which means that the system has successfully been turned on.

3.10 Getting to Know the Main Menu
After a successful startup of the system, the Main Menu will be displayed on the touch screen (Figure 3.10).
From the Main Menu, users have access to audio controls for each piece of equipment located in the room, as
well as buttons for the selection of a video source to project and the opening of their respective controls.
Figure 3.10
Video sources are listed on the left hand side of the screen (Figure 3.11), and the audio controls for each
video source are located on the right hand side of the screen (Figure 3.12).

3.21 Selecting a Video Source
To select a video source, touch the button for the video source you wish to use. Once a video source
button has been touched that source will be projected. After a video source has been selected, the video
controls for that particular source will appear in the center of the screen. (Instructions for using the specific
controls for each source are provided in Section 4.0).
NOTE: If a video source is the first source that has been selected since the system has
been turned on, selecting that source will turn on the projector. The projector will take
about 60 seconds to warm-up and cannot be shut off while it is warming up.

3.30 Using the Audio Controls
The touch panel is capable of performing three basic audio functions: volume increase, volume decrease
and volume mute. Table 3.30 below shows the relationship between each button and its corresponding
function. To perform each function, touch the button of the corresponding function you wish to
perform. (Refer to Figure 3.12 for each button’s location on the touch screen.)

NOTE: The main computer (labeled “Desktop PC” on the touch panel), and the
laptop (if in use), have separate audio controls as part of their operating systems.
These controls operate independently of the touch panel audio controls. As a result, in
order to distribute audio to the room, the audio from the computer must be unmuted,
and set to an audible level. The touch panel mute button will prevent audio from being
distributed to the room, even if the computer’s volume is unmuted and set to an audible
level.
Touching the volume increase button (Table 3.30) on the touch panel will
automatically unmute the audio being distributed by the system.

HELP! Everything is plugged in, but the system is not projecting
my laptop.
Some laptops require a specific keystroke to activate the laptop’s VGA port. The
keystroke varies from laptop to laptop, but most commonly pressing the “Fn” along
with one of the “F” keys activates the port.
If the laptop still is not being projected, the resolution and/or refresh rate of the
laptop’s display may need to be changed. On a PC this can normally be done by
going to Control Panel -> Display ->Display Settings. On a Mac this can normally
be done by going to the Apple Menu -> System Preferences -> Displays. In this
room, the resolution should be set to 1366x768, and the refresh rate to 60 Hertz
(Hz).
