One or more load resistors of min.1.5A load current carrying capacity (values depending on the output voltages of the regulators (see section “Features of the Demoboard”) or multichannel active load 3. One or more (digital) voltmeters and ampmeters 4. Optional: oscilloscope (4-channel or more preferred) 3 Connectors AK1: AK2: AK3: AK4: AK5: AK6: AK7: Power supply and Ground (positive terminal VBAT) output of the 1st buck converter output of the 2nd buck converter output of the 1st LDO output of the 2nd LDO output of the 3rd LDO output of the 4th LDO X1: X2: X3: X4: SPI connector (to external µC) IC control and monitoring signals auxiliary outputs of regulators Buck 1, Buck 2, LDO1 – LDO4 IC control signals Elmos Semiconductor AG Application Note 1/7 QM-No.: 25AN0132E.00 AN 0132 E522.51/52 Multiple Power Supply Demonstration Board Nov 24, 2015 4 Jumpers JP1:1st LDO input selector JP2: LDO parallelization of LDO2 – LDO4 JP3: VIO source selector J2: J3: J4: input voltage source selector for LDO4 input voltage source selector for LDO3 input voltage source selector for LDO2 ON1: activation of 1st buck converter ON2: activation of 2nd buck converter ON_P: repetitive activation of both buck converters (remote control) 5 Indicators LD1: LD2: Power Good signal (active only with VIO setting) IC activation (output of the on-board pulse generator, ON_P status) 6 Safety precautions The E522.51/52 multiple Power Supply demoboard operates with output currents of up to 1.5A. When load resistors are connected to the outputs, the output current can cause the load resistors become hot during demoboard operation! Handling and operating the demoboard assembly is only allowed in an ESD protected workplace. Follow the instructions to set up and operating exactly to avoid failures or damages of the demoboard. 7 Features of the demoboard The E522.51/52 multiple Power Supply demoboard provides up to 6 separate output voltages to external loads. On the AK2 to AK7 connectors, the output voltages are available. It is possible to interconnect the outputs of the LDO’s to achieve higher output current (parallelization) by setting JP2. Depending on the programming of the E522.51 resp. E522.52 for the desired application, the activation of the buck converters is possible by an on-board pulse generator in an ON/OFF cycle of 1s ON- time and 0.5s OFF-time. The output voltage settings (level, Power sequencing, current limitation and activation control) are internally programmed and application- tailored. The SPI can be used to analyze status information and to control the IC behavior in a predetermined characteristic. For monitoring and measuring the output voltages, an auxiliary output pin header is available. IC control and status information can be captured at the X2 and X4 connector. For further information of parameter settings, refer to the E522.51/52 data sheet. 8 Jumper settings JP1: LDO1 input voltage selector 1-2LDO1 input connected to Buck converter 2 output 3-4LDO1 input connected to Buck converter 1 output 5-6LDO1 input connected to VBAT JP2: LDO parallelization 1-2LDO3 || LDO4 3-4, 5-6 LDO2 || LDO3 || LDO4 5-6LDO3 || LDO4 JP3: VIO source selector (the JP3 jumper setting determines the voltage level of the µC interface) 1-2VIO connected to Buck 2 output 2-3VIO connected to LDO1 output J2: LDO4 input selector 1-2LDO4 input connected to Buck 2 output 2-3LDO4 input connected to Buck 1 output Elmos Semiconductor AG Application Note 2/7 QM-No.: 25AN0132E.00 AN 0132 E522.51/52 Multiple Power Supply Demonstration Board Nov 24, 2015 J3: LDO3 input selector 1-2LDO3 input connected to Buck 2 output 2-3LDO3 input connected to Buck 1 output J4: LDO2 input selector 1-2LDO2 input connected to Buck 2 output 2-3LDO2 input connected to Buck 1 output ON1: ON2: ON_P: (static) buck converter 1 activation (static) buck converter 2 activation Both ON- inputs connected to the on-board pulse generator 9 Start of operation: 1. Connect the outputs to external load resistors and to the measuring instruments 2. Set the jumpers accordingly to the desired application 3. Connect the input to the PSU. 4. Double-check that everything has been connected and settled correctly 5. Turn the Power Supply Unit on. Observe the output voltages and /or the output currents (Power sequencing can be observed by a scope) Elmos Semiconductor AG Application Note 3/7 QM-No.: 25AN0132E.00 E522.51/52 Multiple Power Supply Demonstration Board AN 0132 Nov 24, 2015 10 Circuit diagram of the Demoboard: Figure 2.
