President’s Report -
Hallo to all members and friends. Prior to the start of our last show we held the Annual
General Meeting of the Club which went off pretty well. There was a good attendance
of 70 members, the best we have had for many years. The Committee now has a
new Entertainment Officer, Kevin Perry. Kevin is eager to take up his new position
as soon as he returns from his holidays. Our three (3) new committee persons are
Bernie James, Gail Crispin and Jenny Excell. Treasurer Judy Fairhead was the
only nomination and so will continue looking after the finances for a further 2 years.
There were no nominations for the Vice President position and as such becomes a
‘casual vacancy’ which will be publicised in the ‘Country Call’. Any nominations from
members with twelve (12) months current membership will be considered and decided
on by Committee.
Rhonda Byrne did not seek to carry on as a Committee person and Bob Molloy missed out in the Committee
ballot. I would like to thank both Rhonda and Bob for their past contributions whilst on Committee and I
know that both will still volunteer to assist the Committee whenever asked to do so.
Congratulations to Secretary Raelz Gebhardt for achieving a Life Membership for services to the Club.
The Industry Award went to Fred Payne, a Gawler Club member who has done a lot to promote Country
music albeit with the Gawler C/music workshop as a radio presenter on Radio Adelaide101.5 for the past
6 years. The Merit Award was awarded by the members to Ian Fisk for his dedication to country music.
Congratulations to both Fred and Ian.
There were three (3) constitution amendments passed. They are included elsewhere in this newsletter.
Vince Pollard, our late long term member, was finally laid to rest on the 27th July. His service was relatively

small but many people spoke well of Vince during the service and we all learned a lot about him from his
earlier years.
Our last two shows, The Blackhats in July with guest artist Billy Dee and Charlie McCracken Band with
guest artist Andy Dee were great with both days achieving near full houses. I am very happy with current
attendances.
As from March 1st 2017 our membership will only have one (1) main category instead of the Ordinary/
Entitlement option at present. Membership for the 2017/18 year will be $10 for all members. I would like
to have all members to entice their friends to join up and receive the Club benefits and as such boost our
membership numbers thus guaranteeing the longevity of the Club. We have to plan ahead and with all your
help we can achieve it.
Next month we have the band Palomino Deluxe with guest artist Derani. Chloe Warrick will also attend to
receive her ‘Len & Lorraine Wakefield Memorial Award’. She will also sing a few songs for us. I am looking
forward for that.

‘Palomino Deluxe includes bass maestro Michael
Scott, the finesse of jazz-trained drummer Barnabas
Smith, and the supertwang of telecaster-master
guitarist Duncan Haynes. With Tim Windsor on
vocals and guitar, Palomino Deluxe traverses the
classic country songbook, re-interpreting country
Duncan, Tim, Barnabas and Michael at the West
standards from the 50s through to the 70s.’

October Show :- Graeme Hugo with Tru Country
Graeme has not been at our Club for quite a few years. Some information sent
back in 2015 includes the following.
Graeme began his music career in the Country Music Industry back in 1972 at
the age of 18 and has continued in Country Music till this day. He has during his
career toured throughout Australia several times with many high profile artists.
He has performed at the Sydney Opera House, Home-bush and various clubs
in and around Sydney many times. Over the 41 years, Graeme has gained
experience in all aspects of the music industry and toured nationally with many
high profile Country Music Artists with whom he has become good friends.
Graeme has helped many amateur artists gain experience within the industry,
some going on to win Star Maker or get into the top 20, and continues to give opportunity to many young up
and coming artists who he believes, is the future of Country Music. Over the years Graeme has helped raise
money for the Isolated Children, SIDS, Kids with Cancer, Aged Care, Angel Flight, Variety Clubs as well as
individual fund raising for people with personal illnesses within the local communities. He has in the past and
still continues to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Graeme is also continuing to be involved in
helping committees in various areas set up Country Music Festivals and in some cases is the entertainment
officer, committee member or stage manager of the festivals. Many of the highlights of his career are listed
on page 11 and here : http://country.ianfisk.org/artists/hugo/hugo.htm
Tru Country have been at the Club several times in
the last few years, the last time was January this year.
The members are Trevor Denton, Gary Standley,
Gary Daniel, and Denis Gore. Check Gary’s website

More photos of most of our club meetings (from 2008) are on our website www.acmc.org.au. Past
Country Calls (mostly in colour) from 2006 are also there. There are also many photos by Robert
Chapman on line (link on our website). Check our facebook page too!
Please save the Club having to print, fold and post your Country Call by downloading your
COLOUR copy from our website. It is usually on the website a week before most members
receive their posted version! Please send an email to publicity@acmc.org.au and ask to be
taken off the mailing list. You will be sent an email advising when the next issue is available to
download.

Newsletter Distribution.
With the recent large increase in postal rates, it is becoming much more necessary to reconsider how our
members receive their Country Call.
Country Call has been available to be downloaded from our website for many years. This has been publicized
many times in the past. Unfortunately, not a large number of members have chosen this method of delivery.
Please consider this option. Country Call from the website is in colour, delivered earlier than a posted version
and this option saves the Club the cost of printing and postage. It also saves the effort of folding and posting!
We tried making Country Call available at meetings, but not many favoured that method, but are offering that
option again!
The Club is requesting members choose one of the below delivery options.
1. Download from website
2. Pick up at the next Club Meeting
3. Be posted.
If those opting for picking up at Club Meetings don’t attend, Country Call would be posted shortly after the
meeting.
Please indicate to the Membership Officer or Publicity Officer which option you prefer. Country Call will
continue to be posted to those not contacting us.
THE VICE PRESIDENT POSITION IS STILL VACANT
There were no nominations for this position at our recent AGM. This has been vacant since the death of
Merv Jackson. Please consider nominating! Nomination forms are available at our meetings, or off our
website.
Len and Lorraine Wakefield Memorial Fund
Subject to certain conditions, the purpose of the fund is to assist younger
talent with proven ability: a) in entering talent quests throughout South
Australia, Mildura and Tamworth, b) by payment or part payment of
professional tuition, and c) towards the cost of a musical instrument. The
fund is administered by the ACMC committee with expenditure limited to
the interest from capital invested (plus raffles from time to time), with all
payments made to the appropriate body. Annually an awardee is chosen
by the Full Committee. Contributions to the fund, which may be made to
the club treasurer at any time will be acknowledged in the club newsletter.
After Lorraine’s passing the fund was renamed to include Lorraine’s name. The selection procedure
has had to be changed slightly as fewer committee members have been attending the South Australian
Country Music Festival in the Riverland where for many years a recipient was recommended.

Country Call Contributions
Other than Presidents and our
previous
Entertainment
Officer,
through the years very few have
contributed content for Country Call.
Contributions are welcome.
What do members want to see in

been given to your publicity officer.

Graeme is one of Australia’s most popular, hard working and successful Independent Artists with a natural
appeal and rapport with audiences of all ages. He truly is a crowd pleaser and when performing never
fails to give his all. He is acclaimed as ‘SA’s Favourite Son’ and ‘The Voice’ by media and fans alike owing
to a clear and distinct voice, over which he has clear emotional control. Such voices are not common,
but one such voice, however, does belong to Graeme Hugo, which has gained him both wide acclaim and
industry recognition for his professionalism, enthusiasm, dedication, dynamic and unique contribution to
the Country Music Industry. Years of constant travelling, 5 successful albums with number 6 in process,
endless awards and accolades have well and truly earned Graeme a prominent place among the cream
of Australian Country Music entertainers.
Sunnyvale is a farming district situated in the heart of the Northern York Peninsular and is also the home
of an approx 120 year old church where Graeme & Lynne Hugo with help from friends and family began
another chapter in their Country Music Book of Life. “Sunnyvale” as it will be known is predominately
aimed at people being brought in by coach arriving at around 10.30am where they will be greeted with
morning tea and a chance to browse around the souvenir shop. Then into the church hall for 1½ hour
concert performed by Graeme and friends before heading into the dining hall for a 2 course meal. After a
stroll around or just a chat for a while the coach will depart for their next destination at approx 2pm
