STANDARDS SUPERVISOR This position reports to the Manager of Standards and Engineering Services. This role ensures the proper development of standards to be used by the utility. In addition, the role calls for a strong aptitude for power system designs for both overhead and underground systems. The successful candidate will provide technical advice to internal departments in accordance with accepted standards, applicable laws, codes and regulation to ensure safety to employees and the public. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized University or equivalent training with extensive distribution utility experience. Must be registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) with a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or license. Excellent knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution system and construction. Must possess extensive understanding of utility practices and procedures in engineering. Minimum five (5) years distribution utility experience. Extensive knowledge of ESA Regulation 22/04, CSA Standards C22.3 No. 7 and C22.3 No.1. Knowledgeable in power systems protection and co-ordination. Strong analytical skills with proven ability to grasp understanding of complex systems. Must demonstrate excellent analytical and collaborative decision making skills. Excellent written and verbal skills to communicate effectively and prepare technical reports and guidelines. Strong desire to provide excellent customer service and is a strong team player. Ability to meet deadlines and at times, work under stressful situations. DUTIES: Accountable for developing, updating , obtaining approvals and distributing standards in accordance with ESA Regulation 22/04, all applicable laws, codes and regulation to maximize the earned value for all assets and minimize risk exposure to the public and employees. Accountable for the production of technical specifications, evaluation and recommendations for effective procurement of all distribution equipment, systems and electrical consulting services and applicable contractual work. Accountable for ensuring compliance with ESA Regulation 22/04 as it relates to approval and use of material and equipment. Researching and making recommendation for implementation of new technology, software and standards in accordance with ESA Regulation 22/04, all applicable laws, codes and regulation. Performance and approval of Power Systems Studies utilizing CYME Power Engineering Software and review and audit of power systems studies provided by third parties. Ensuring CYME database is updated for all system expansions, renewals and generation projects. Provide technical support to Asset Management and Engineering, Purchasing, Regulatory and Operations departments with regards to feasibility and economic studies, sourcing of new equipment and material to regulatory requirements, failure and corrective action investigation of material or equipment and development of work methods and standards. Chairing and coordinating activities of the Material and Inventory Committee. Act as Hydro One Brampton liaison with Hydro One Networks Inc for the application and renewal of threshold allocation assessments for generation projects, renewal of approvals for access of Protection Settings for all transformer stations and any other technical related matters related to the owner(s) of the Transformer Stations located in Brampton. Review and approval of construction deviations request in accordance with the requirements of ESA Regulation 22/04. Participation in department’s budgeting proposals and assisting in Ontario Energy Board rate filing applications and queries or any other third parties queries and request as it relates to department’s responsibility. Maintaining licenses and renewals for all relevant department software and standards.
