Lg. 2.45 pm Northern v Mosgiel, Caledonian Green Island v Roslyn Wakari, Sunnyvale Caversham v University, Tonga Pk. Mother Hen or Fergie ? He’s a cross between a mother hen, and Alex Ferguson - thats right, the original Big Mac, and as Saturday approached, the FOYDAT Director of Coaching Mackenzie was just a little frazzled. When they jump on the plane at Momona, Neil will heave a huge sigh of relief ... once they are airbourne. Maybe I’m tempting fate, but a few years ago, early ice and fog threatened to delay the Milk Cup flight ( and all the other connecting flights ) so all the Staff were a bit twitchy. Then there was the time in Dubai when the squad was ‘bumped’ to make room for some sheiks, and again flights and car hire were thrown out of kilter. Then when the baggage vanished in London, and Mac was seen sprinting, yes sprinting between Terminals - and Heathrow is pretty spread out so he did well - about three hour Marathon time. But now age has caught up with the big former national league keeper, and he has returned to an original passion - swimming. And he competed well in a recent chilly race round Ruby Island up at Lake Wanaka. So it was no surprise that after all the other Milk Cup coaching, training, and 7 am gym work at KVS, all six months of it Mac got out his hand knitted woolen speedos and dragged the http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ young tourists to Moana Pool and http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ a last relaxing Aqua Splash before flying out the next day. There were some tidy swimmers among the MC squad, and a few high dive experts, plus the ‘Bomb’ kamikaze twirlers - and I’m not saying the splash above was Mackenzie, but the fire brigade was called to refill the Rab Pool afterwards - Good Luck lads - and look after Neil.... He’ll be around for a bit yet... but Bill Chisholm has resigned - effective later this year, and the Hunt has started for a suitable replacement General Manager, see Advert below. A school teacher born in Pathhead near Edinburgh, he was an effective centre half, first in Canterbury then here in Otago when he arrived in 1974, and earned Player of the Year plaudits in 1976, 1979, and 1982. Chisholm (64) became involved in Admin. and was part of the formation of Team Otago in National League back in 1998. Since then, Nat. Elsewhere, 2015 ASB Chatham Cup runners-up Central United – also five-time winners – will battle NRFL Premier League rivals Birkenhead United AFC in a re-match of their dramatic 2014 third-round meeting which saw Central recover from a 3-0 deficit with 10 men to advance. The last of the quarter-final clashes sees Central League rivals Western Suburbs host 2014 semi-finalists and four-time competition champions Napier City Rovers. The tie brings together the top two sides in the Central League with Napier City Rovers currently holding an eight point lead over their Wellington-based opponents. Struggling to find eleven players to line up (like a lot of teams!) Wal couldn't help but be envious of the depth and experience that Tech had on display, and they dominated the first half. Four down at half time, and another couple in the second for a disappointing 0-6 loss, with a number of the goals coming from well-taken set pieces. One bright spot was an opportunity for some new faces to step up including a senior debut for Fletty, and Fraser Hunter & Nick Kelly getting a run off the bench. POD to "veteran" Tommy Connor who never gave up. The Seconds had drawn their previous two matches this season against Tech, so it was always going to be another even affair. A mistake saw Tech take the lead, before Seamus equalised with a strike from distance that took a deflection and lobbed the keeper. We went behind again before Andy "Lambert" Lyndom banged in a good goal with 10 minutes left. Another match drawn, players to impress included Johnny Madden and Chris Sannum at the back and Kieran who was POD. It's been a funny old season for the Thirds, but they put in a brilliant performance to convincingly beat top of the table Melchester 5-3 on the snowy Highveldt at Brockville. The boys quickly adapted to the conditions, with Damo bagging a hat trick, including netting a penalty and possibly beating the offside trap for another, and Fraser and Louis scored too. Incredibly Page 8 Damo has been waiting years to finally put a player of the day glass on his mantelpiece, he's found his level! The 4th Whites were also up at Brockville but made things hard for themselves vs University, including netting a couple of oggies. Final score 2-8, Dom again picked up POD for another good effort. Meanwhile the 4th Blacks took on Northern down at the Gardens and again raced out to a 3-0 lead before conceding a couple for some late nerves. Sammy was the hero in goals, including saving a spot kick, and picked up POD. The Chargers were in the snow at Brockville against a Teckle team that only needed a point to secure the league, and we gave them a damn good fright. Fozzzzz's lads matched them for the whole first half, and whilst a couple of mistakes helped Melchester score 4 first half goals, the Ginger Skrtel, Mitch, and the superb Matty Aitken all bagged goals and got off the nudie run in the process. Teckle scored soon after the break and dominated possession in the second half but the final score of 35 was a brave effort, perhaps that first win can still happen! The Stallions travelled to Tonga to take on Caversham. It was a pretty even game but the boys relied on the mercurial Markus Glover to power one past the keeper to earn a 2-2 draw. Meanwhile the Originals were missing some key players and battling to get a team together to take on Mosgiel Gerries, and conceded the only goal of the game early on. http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ Pete Evans earned a world record 186th player of the day award for keeping them in the http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ game with his efforts in between the sticks. The Moas took on Mosgiel on the postage stamp and were also battling for players. Honk stepped up to the plate and helped out with a man of the match performance, but couldn't stop the Moas going down 2-5. The Colts took on the Tech Frotters and blew them away with 9 goals. It was 1-1 at half time but a superb second half effort saw eight unanswered goals. Matty scored five against his former club, Gribs scored a stunner after stepping past five opponents, and Robbie Oram scored Mor gan Morgan a 60 yard stunner and made sure everyone in town knew about it! Jarvis Page 9 Sunnyvale Sports Complex 3-1 Win The Green Island Premier Team versus Varsity. Hard game today as expected against a Varsity team well better than their placing in the league. Played in chilly conditions at the Cale but both teams tried to play controlled football. 2 nil up at half time. Goals to Connor and Bob. Then Varsity had a good start to the second half and got back to 1 – 2 but a well taken goal from Sean McIntee sealed the result. MOTM hard to pick. Cam McPhail. Good to see Joel Stevens and Matt Mitchell in the stands. Flemz Div. One Team played Varsity and were lucky to limp away with a draw. Goals to Jake, Reilly, Tenn, Joe MOM Jake Bolland. Rory Crow The Division Two team travelled to Ocean Grove to face Grants Braes. In freezing conditions we played good football and were rewarded for our efforts. Dave Franklins scored the all important goal v Roslyn Originals. Monos Plainsmen Travelled to Green Island - ball passed around well and kept possession - scoring after 10min, continued in the same fashion and ended up 3-0 at halftime.http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ The lads lifted thehttp://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ intensity in the 2nd spell and banged in another 5 to make it a good 8-0 win. Goals were shared around with 7 different scorers. Old boys v Moas at balmy Ellis . Chopper with the first. Knocking ball round but moas came back from extinction and tied up at the break . Mark with The second - we don't know who was more embarrassed mark or their goalie!!!. Mark again got a superb goal following a great ball from Whitty. Graham scored a goal to rival marks first and Tony finished off with a screamer 5-2. Thirds had to default. Alan seconds had the Balmy game deferred Neville Ellis... Page 11 Another 10 goals ... We came out firing, and an Andy Ridden through ball at half way sent Tom Jackson one on one, subsequently scoring after the 2nd minute. We then relaxed, sitting back too deep and allowing an enthusiastic and committed Mosgiel too much time and space. We were duly punished and gave away a penalty 24mins in. Conceding that knocked us back to our senses and we scored 3 clinical goals in the 8 mins leading to half time, 2 to Lewis Jackson and a well taken volley by Michael Hogan. Being ruthless is a trait we have Player of the reinforced this season, and 5 goals in Day Rhys 13mins, including Tom with 2 more to Henderson complete his hat trick, 1 to Lewis to complete his hat trick, and Andy Ridden with 2. Tore Waechter scored with 6mins to go to make the final score 10-1. Some very good performances, but stand out was Rhys Henderson. 2nds picked up another 3 points due to Mosgiel defaulting. 3rds, despite having a bare eleven due to illness and injuries won convincingly 61 over Green Island. Randal Scott led with 4 goals, outpacing Bradley who chimed in with 2. Page 12 Train No.2 6-nil A mixed bag of results at Dunedin Tech this weekend with the Premier men hitting the net six times against a very lacklustre Roslyn team. Whilst some of the boys were over in Aussie watching Liverpool and a few heading off to Ireland for the Milk Cup venture, Aaron's boys came out strong and hungry for goals coming of the back of a big win at the stadium mid week and are now undefeated in the last twelve games to keep a foot hold on second place. It was a different story for Ric's Fletcher cup boys who drew 2-2 with Roslyn after going one up early in the game. The boys have struggled in front of goal this season which has cost them results and that was the story again this weekend missing several opportunities to see Roslyn off but a draw was the end result. Craig's 3rds had a tough encounter with Mornington at Culling park going down to a very soft goal late in the second half 1-0 final score. The 4ths struggled to http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ get back to back wins with http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ another loss early at Bayfield. The Scarfies were back to full strength and continued on their winning way to keep second place alive for them whilst the young 5ths went down 7-1 Masters grades saw the Colts up against the Hobbits. Despite some renewed confidence this season the Colts were awful in the first half going into the break 3-0 down. Some strong mentoring at half time saw a resurgent effort to bring back some pride. Unfortunately it was to late, final score 5-2 Hobbits. Frotters also had a loss on Culling 2 despite a tough first half being down 1-0 the flood gates opened in the second half losing 7-0. The Culling Lounger Page 13 University v Green Island, at the Caledonian ground Bitterly cold, but an exciting match with both teams showing skills and attacking attitude. Finishing might have been better.... Goals by Connor Neil, Bob Cox, and Sean McIntee. Varsity fought back in second half, but only managed a consolation goal. Page 14 Ovalteenies Its as big a test for the shivering adults as the kids, down at the Oval on Saturday mornings. Get along and see the honest enthusiasm that kids can generate. The Wynne Eligibility Timeline.... New Zealand Football chief executive Andy Martin’s Timeline Friday night: New Zealand men's under-23s beat Vanuatu 20 in the semi-final of the Pacific Games, that is also doubling as an Olympic qualifier, in Papua New Guinea. Shortly after the game, team manager Rob Pickstock is shown a piece of paper with a typed notice of protest as he was getting on to the bus. The protest claims New Zealand left back Deklan Wynne is an ineligible player. Saturday morning, 8.26am: Pickstock receives the protest from the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC). 11.15am: Copy of full protest sent to Pickstock. 1.20pm: Pickstock receives copy of full protest due to internet issues within the hotel. 3.40pm: NZF respond, referring OFC to the rules that Pickstock had been provided that applied to the tournament. Those rules stated that any protests NZ Football wasn't aware of the OFC disciplinary committee about ineligible hearing (which decided NZ's fate) until after it had concluded. players had to be made before the tournament began. 5.39pm: OFC reply, saying FIFA Olympic rules take precedence. 8.25pm: NZF lawyers receive official protest and are given 35 minutes to respond before being referred to the FIFA disciplinary committee. NZF lawyers ask for time extension to review protest and confirm NZF had "acted http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ in good faith" and in "accordance with the rules provided by OFC who noted the eligible status of the player fell underhttp://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ article 6, not 7, of the FIFA statutes in their eyes." Lawyers advised no action needed nor FIFA need be involved. Sunday morning, 10am: OFC disciplinary committee meeting held to rule on protest without NZF. It is unknown who sat on committee. Sunday morning, 11am: NZF find out about meeting. 12.34pm: NZF notified of meeting. 12.44pm: OFC release statement announcing New Zealand's disqualification from the tournament. NZF ask for "time-out" to receive the full details of the protest and the process that was followed which have still not been revealed. Sunday night: Fiji beat Vanuatu on penalties in Pacific Games final to qualify for first ever Olympics. Early Monday morning: FIFA reply to NZF saying OFC are responsible for enforcing sanctions. FIFA say they have no jurisdiction to act. That morning, NZF also receive letter from OFC confirming action taken by their disciplinary committee was proper and the decision was theirs to make. 3.01pm: NZF confirm they will lodge formal appeal with OFC over disqualification. 11.30pm: New Zealand squad return home. Wynne said he had no clue about any eligibility issues. The Deklan Wynne eligibility saga is likely to be decided at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland.
