T5 Luminaire I nnovative in form and function, Columbia’s revolutionary Brio maximizes the advantages of T5 lamp technology, combined with the beauty of perf and the precision optics of parabolic louvers. The result is a stunning blend of performance and style in an astonishingly low profile housing. Beauty, performance, value Integrating the beauty of perf, the precision optics of parabolic louvers, and the innovation of T5 technology, Columbia Lighting introduces Brio – a truly revolutionary advance in appearance and performance. Distinctly different, yet more than merely attractive, Brio meets the standards of IESNA RP-1 for computerized environments by delivering light to the task and away from glare-producing high angles. Add to this the benefit of efficient T5 lumen packages in an amazingly low profile and you have the most exciting new direct luminaire of the 21st century: Brio – the first of its kind. Tight Plenums? No Problem! With its innovative shallow cross section, Brio redefines the way we think about lighting fixtures in the plenum. At a depth of 21⁄2″ (31⁄2″ on the “Stretto” narrow version), the luminaire extends only 1″ above the T-Bar itself, as Brio (left) virtually disappears in the plenum compared with traditional low-glare parabolics (right). compared to 3-4″ with more typical recessed fixtures. The benefit? No more competing with other trades for space above the ceiling. Remodels won’t always require surface mounted fixtures. In new construction, Brio may even allow for shallower plenums—and lower construction costs! Comfortable, low-glare illumination Brio achieves what many thought impossible: A direct T5 fixture with effective glare control. Even with three T5 HO lamps, Brio’s precision optics meet IESNA’s RP-1 recommendations for computerized offices. The secret lies in the concept of the “dedicated louver,” coupled with the slender profile of the T5 lamp. Each lamp has its own high-performance optical envelope that controls light to a degree unattainable with conBrio provides source identification and low ceiling contrast. ventional louvers. When used in conjunction with the ultra-thin T5 lamp, far closer to a true line source than traditional T8 lamps, light is delivered to the task with unprecedented accuracy. Light is directed T5 T8 The T5’s small out of the glare zone to where it is cross-section needed. Simultaneously, perf panels permits enhanced produce a soft glow for source optical control. identification and reduced ceiling contrast, while louver details provide a hint of sparkle for visual interest. A lumen package for every need With its near-perfect batwing distribution and versatile set of lamp options, Brio’s wide choice of lumen packages will provide exactly the right light levels for your job. Plus, we’ve achieved this level of performance with standard 8′x 8′ or 8′x10′ fixture spacings, making installation a breeze. Say Good-bye to “Cave Effect” The strength of a low-glare luminaire can also be its weakness. The optical design demands a distribution downward and away from the “glare zone,” the angles above 55 to 65 degrees. One consequence of this inherent characteristic is dark walls. Rooms can become dreary and cavelike. Well-lit walls are essential to comfortable working spaces, not only for the psychological perception of a pleasant space, but to avoid the eyestrain associated with excessive contrast. Columbia designed Brio with wall-washing capabilities, using the same revolutionary optical concept as on our groundbreaking VHC series. Luminaires positioned along the perimeter of a space can be ordered with the “single wall-wash” option to intentionally cast high-angle light against the wall. Before - symmetrical distribution. After - asymmetrical distribution. In addition, corridors and hallways can be effectively lit with the “double wall-wash” option. When ordered with this option, the 4″ wide Brio “Stretto” is especially suited to corridor applications. T5 Luminaire Integral Cross Tee The Brio “Stretto” integrates Brio’s remarkable optics into a sleek linear fixture that installs into standard grid ceilings with ease. Its innovative design works with the ceiling system by actually serving as a self-contained cross tee. Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Rest the Stretto’s ends on the tee and center it in the opening. Cut the ceiling tile into two 10″ strips. Drop the ceiling tile into place. That’s all. You’re done!
