UMTS SAW filters
Hittite Microwave Corporation has
extended its line of GaAs HBT MMIC
VCOs with fundamental, half- and quarterfrequency outputs. These SMT-packaged
VCOs are ideal for microwave applications
from 11.5 GHz to 14.9 GHz. The HMC515LP5E, HMC529LP5E, and HMC531LP5E
GaAs HBT MMIC VCOs are housed in
RoHS-compliant, 5 mm x 5 mm leadless
SMT packages with a common pinout.
These VCOs integrate resonators, negative
resistance devices and varactor diodes.
The HMC515LP5E, HMC529LP5E and
HMC531LP5E MMIC VCOs tune from
11.5 GHz to 12.5 GHz, 12.4 GHz to
13.4 GHz, and 13.6 GHz to 14.9 GHz,
respectively. Output power and phase noise
performance are excellent over temperature,
shock, and process due to the oscillator’s
monolithic structure. If the prescaler function is not required, it can be disabled to
conserve current. This family of fully integrated VCOs requires no external components,
provides output power of +7 dBm to +10 dBm,
and delivers very low SSB phase noise of
-110 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset.
Samples and evaluation PC boards for
all SMT packaged products are available.
Released data sheets are available on Hittite’s
web site.

in miniaturization by EPCOS. Versions
with impedances of 100 Ω and 200 Ω are
available to match the chipset used. Typical insertion loss in the passband (2.11 GHz
to 2.17 GHz) is 1.6 dB.
Error vector magnitude, a critical parameter
in UMTS systems, is less than 2%. Attenuation in the TX path (1.92 GHz to 1.98 GHz) is
48 dB. Attenuation is at least 31 dB in the
range from 2.5 GHz to 6.0 GHz. Samples

Silicon oscillators
require ultrafast settling time, high linearity,
low insertion loss, high isolation, and small
size at a low price point. The fast settling
time of the switch allows time-sensitive
systems to respond faster without a reduction
in RF performance. Test and measurement
applications that require a quick response
time can use the MASWSS0192 with its
nominal settled on resistance of 2.5 Ω with
less than a 0.15 Ω change after only 15 μs.
Other performance specifications for this
SPDT are its high power handling with P1dB
of 28.5 dBm, low typical insertion loss of
0.18 dB, and high isolation of 24 dB.
The device is fabricated on a low-cost
0.5 μm gate-length GaAs pHEMT process
and features full passivation for increased
reliability. Its SC-70 (SOT-363) packaging
is lead-free. Each MASWSS0192 is 100%
RF tested, as well as dc tested for gate lag to
ensure performance compliance.
The MASWSS0192 is available and is
priced at $0.70 in quantities of 10,000.

Microwave coaxial cable
Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX7387-MAX7391 family of
silicon oscillators that offers the supervisory
functions of medium-accuracy silicon oscillators in a single, surface-mount microMAX
package. These tiny devices switch frequencies and range from 32 kHz for low-power
modes, to 16 MHz in high-speed mode.
The oscillators are ideal for high-reliability systems because they do not use external
high-impedance nodes found in ceramic
resonator circuits. This makes them less susceptible to dirt, humidity and high-EMI/ESD
conditions. Also, because the oscillators do not
rely on mechanical methods, they are less sensitive to environmental concerns. Integrated
into this oscillator family is a reset output to
interface with a microcontroller, power-fail
detection to alert the system of an impending
power failure, and a watchdog to monitor the
health of the system.
Total accuracy for the family is ±4%
over -40 °C to +125 °C, and ±2.75% over
0 °C to +85 °C. At a supply voltage of 3.3 V,
the supply current is just 2.9 mA for the
16 MHz device. Prices start at $0.65 for
10000-unit quantities.

Phase locked oscillator
Atlantic Microwave Ltd. has introduced
a series of semi-flexible and semi-rigid
cables. Including all the popular outside
diameters of 0.034 inches, 0.047 inches, 0.086
inches, 0.141 inches and 0.250 inches, the
collection includes outer conductor materials of copper, aluminum and braided copper/
tin composite, each with its own respective
properties of flexibility and bend repetition.
Common to all standard types is the
characteristic impedance of 50 Ω, PTFE
dielectric material and an operating temperature range of –55 °C +125 °C.
The aluminum outer cables are tin plated
as standard to optimize soldering, while
copper types come in a choice of plain or
tin-plated. The series is available in lengths
up to 50 feet.
Beyond the standard range are a number
of options with alternative impedances, FEP
jackets, silver-plated inner and outer conductors and low loss variants.

JWM Engineering Group has expanded
its microwave phase locked oscillator line
with a 902 MHz to 910 MHz version.
Model 902 PLL joins the JWM model 1152
and model 5112 PLL units designed to replace
crystal local oscillator chains in microwave
receivers and transmitters.
Using an external reference oscillator, model 902 can provide one part in
10 million frequency stability with a
temperature-compensated oscillator, or one
part in one billion when using an ovencontrolled crystal oscillator. A rubidium
oscillator can provide a stability of one part
in 100 billion. Users must supply an appropriate 10 MHz reference source for their
application.
The 902 PLL can be used as a local oscillator in microwave receivers, transmitters,
transverters and signal generators. The PLL
supports 144 MHz, 50 MHz, 28 MHz and
14 MHz intermediate frequencies.
Reverse voltage protection is a standard
feature. A three-section low-pass filter with a
–3 dB cutoff frequency at 1.2 GHz suppresses
second- and third-order harmonic frequencies at the RF output port. A cast aluminum
RF-tight enclosure provides the best possible
suppression of stray RF leakage.
The model 902 cost is $249.95 each.
