Position Title: Reports To: Department: Prepared By/Date: Approved By/Date: Revised: Prior Learning Assessment Coordinator Director, Prior Learning Assessment Academic Affairs Christine Peña/04-01-2015 Tiffani Malvin/04-07-2015 Job Code: Job Group: Salary Grade: FLSA Status: 3530 PENC 14 Exempt Summary: The Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) Coordinator supports the daily operations of the PLA department, assists the Director with the development and implementation of college-wide PLA initiatives and communicates information to internal and external constituencies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assists the Director with the development and implementation of College-wide PLA initiatives Coordinates and promotes PLA services and resources used for establishing procedures and promoting practices that award credit for prior learning Oversees and maintains the website including updates and content development that supports the College’s brand, innovative assessment methods and ability to support students in earning a degree or credential Handles communications and responds to internal and external inquiries in person, phone and electronic communication Assists with planning and conducting PLA marketing efforts that includes the coordination of students, faculty, staff, scheduling, media relations, recruiting and data tracking elements Manages the day to day administrative operations of the department Compiles, analyzes and evaluates various reports for the Director and other personnel that includes budgetary functions, expenditures, inventories and reconciliation Coordinates the scheduling of meetings, professional development activities and other events that support the success of the program Performs other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures Knowledge of the methods used for obtaining credit for prior learning Possess excellent organizational and communication skills both oral and written Ability to write reports and business correspondence Possess strong customer service and public/media relations skills Knowledge of current technological developments and trends in the area of expertise, social media and website development Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community Ability to read, analyze and interpret data, trends and research related to PLA Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists Proficiency in Microsoft office software and specific computer programs related to area of responsibility Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances Ability to define problems using independent judgment and critical thinking, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions Ability to present information effectively to College-wide administration, faculty, students and the general public Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
