Our subcontract funded a 9 month residency program imbedding two graduate student artists in the Center City South neighborhood focused on a series of story-based arts programs and eventsexploringtheconnectionsthesePhoenixresidentshavetotheircommunities. Community-basedprojectsfor2015 Arizona Collegiate High School/Pima Prevention Partnership: A 6 week residency program partnering graduate students enrolled in THP 514 with youth from Arizona Collegiate HighSchool(HSservingyouthimpactedbyincarceration)enrolledintheafternoonchoir class: March 27 to May 1 and culminating in a showcase performance on the theme of “transitions.” Community-basedprojectsfor2014 Scales Scholars Making the World a Better Place: Partnership between Mr. Porter’s 5th Grade class at Scales Elementary and Stephani Etheridge Woodson’s THP 514 class at ASU focusingoninquiry-basedperformanceprocessesforeachgroupoflearners.Dividedinto 5 teams (6 5th graders and 2/3 graduate students), each team 1. decided on a issue or problemandthemeasurementsof‘success’theywishedtouse,2.conductedbackground research, and 3. devised a solution or approach using creativity and performance, 4 Presentedan“informance”toanappropriateandpublicaudience. Community-basedprojectsfor2013 ArtSmart/ArteListos: Project with CO Greenfield School and the Roosevelt School District in South Phoenix to explore “What is healthy?” through theatre and devised performance. This project partnered school children, artists-educators from ASU, and the co-artistic director from Rising Youth Theatre. The project culminated in a performance & dinner created by local chefs, but meeting the USDA food standards and enjoyed by family and communityattheRooseveltWellnessCenter. Community-basedprojectsfor2012 Geocaching Story—Locative Digital Storytelling with At Home in the Desert: Supervised MFA and PhD student partnerships with youth from a Mesa Boys & Girls Club as they cocreateddigitalstorieswiththeMesaArtsCenter,theArizonaMuseumofNaturalHistory andtheMesaHistoricalMuseum.FundedbytheNEAthisprojectbroughttheCenterfor DigitalStorytellingtocampusaswellaspartneredwithalocalvisualartist,BethTom. Engaged Art Residencies at the Art Museum: Supervised undergraduate arts students in creating, facilitating and evaluating Saturday morning workshops for patrons and their childrenattheASUArtMuseum. Community-basedprojectsfor2011 EngagingArizona: At the Arizona Historical Society Museum at Papago Park, I supervised a team of graduate students as they researched, collaborated, and created a dramatically immersive experience for young people touring the Arizona History exhibits as part of class field trips. The experience was designed to integrate into current exhibits with minimalcost.
