Mounting Arrangements
S&C Three-Pole Alduti-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses
are available in Standard Mounting Arrangements as
described in S&C Data Bulletin 771-80. Departures from
Standard Mounting Arrangements are also available and
fall into three categories:
1. Standard Minor Modifications of Standard Mounting
Arrangements are those which are so frequently
encountered that they are included on S&C’s basic
erection drawings (ED). Applicability of Standard
Minor Modifications are listed in the table on page 8.
The applicable Standard Minor Modifications may be
specified by adding the appropriate Catalog Number
Suffix “-S” to the erection drawing (ED) number.
2. Special Minor Modifications of Standard Mounting
Arrangements are those which include such departures
as special base drillings or special mounting brackets for
operating-mechanism components. For this category of
“special,” S&C will prepare a custom erection drawing
(ED) based on the Standard Mounting Arrangement
erection drawing (ED). Switches will be supplied with an
operating mechanism for the Special Minor Modification
of a Standard Mounting Arrangement.
3. Special Mounting Arrangements are those which
involve complete departures from the Standard
Mounting Arrangements brought about by customizing
an S&C Alduti-Rupter Switch with Power Fuses to fit the
user’s structure. Custom erection drawings (ED) will be
provided as required.
EXCLUSIONS: Alduti-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses
do not include connectors. Various connector arrangements
are available as listed in the table on page 13. Specify the
quantity and catalog number of connector arrangement
desired.
Alduti-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses do not include
holders, refill units, or fuse units.
SPECIFICATION DEVIATIONS: S&C Alduti-Rupter
Switches with Power Fuses are offered with a choice
of Cypoxy®■ or porcelain station post insulators. The
standard insulator color is gray. When switches are to be
provided with special insulators or special connectors,

Conditions of Sale—Continued
Switches can be supplied with tin-plated terminal pads. To
specify, add suffix “-Z5” to the catalog number of the switch.
Single-, two-, and four-pole group-operated switches
are also available for Alduti-Rupter Switches with Power
Fuses.
Alduti-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses—Type SM
does not include SM Refill Units or SM Fuse Holders. The
catalog number of the holder may be obtained from the
same horizontal line in which the switch is listed.
Alduti-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses—Type SMD
do not include SMD® Fuse Units or SMU-20® Fuse Units.
In selecting a refill unit or fuse unit, watch these points:
• Alduti-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses—Type SM—
match refill unit type to holder type.
• Alduti-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses—Type
SMD—select fuse unit of the type indicated.
Refill units and fuse units are listed separately. In
selecting a refill unit or fuse unit, consider the following:
1. Description—SM-4®, SM-5®, SMD-1A, SMD-2C, or
SMU-20
2. Voltage rating
3. Ampere rating
4. Speed.
POWER OPERATION: Power operation or, if desired,
remote supervisory control may be provided for S&C AldutiRupter Switches with Power Fuses by the addition of the
appropriate S&C Switch Operator—Type AS-1A, or AS-10,
or by adding an S&C M Series® Switch Operator.
S&C Switch Operators—Types AS-1A and Type AS-10 are
for power operation of Alduti-Rupter Switches with Power
2
S&C Specification Bulletin 771-31
Fuses with rotating-type and reciprocating-type operating
mechanisms, respectively. These switch operators are
high-speed operators, with operating times not exceeding
.75 second and 1.2 seconds maximum, respectively. This
high operating speed provides sufficient moving-contact
velocity in the interrupters to ensure full interrupting
capability and long operating life.
M Series Switch Operators are available in two
versions—torsional, for rotating-type mechanisms,
and reciprocating, for reciprocating-type operating
mechanisms. Both versions operate in .5 seconds. This
high operating speed is fully compatible with the movingcontact velocity required by the interrupters to ensure full
interrupting capability for the applicable switch styles and
mounting arrangements.
Power operation is available for certain mounting
arrangements only. Consult the nearest S&C Sales Office
for availability.
For additional details concerning S&C Switch
Operators—Types AS-1A or AS-10, refer to Specification
Bulletin 769-31. For additional details concerning M Series
Switch Operators, refer to Specification Bulletin 1051-31.
WARRANTY QUALIFICATIONS: The standard warranty
contained in S&C’s standard conditions of sale, as set forth
in Price Sheet 150, does not apply when Alduti-Rupter
Switches with Power Fuses are power operated using a
switch operator other than S&C manufacture.

༃ The switches shown include the appropriate set of operating-
mechanism components as specified on the erection drawing (ED) for
the switch. Switches do not include connectors (refer to table on page 13)
or SM Refill Units (refer to tables on pages 9 and 10).
༄ The switches are available in a variety of Standard Mounting
Arrangements, designated by erection drawing (ED) number, as
described in Data Bulletin 771-80. Specify the applicable erection drawing
(ED) number when ordering.
༅ Switches are rated 600 amperes, RMS, continuous and interrupting.
Momentary rating of the switches is 40,000 amperes, RMS, asymmetrical,
except for 14.4-kV switches with Type SM-5 Power Fuses, for which the
momentary ratings, based on limiting of the let-through current by the
fuses, are 54,000 amperes, RMS, asymmetrical at 13.8 kV and
14.4 kV, 60 hertz only, (55,000 amperes, RMS, asymmetrical on
7.2/12.47GrY-kV 60-hertz systems only). Maximum ampere ratings of
fuses are shown in second column.
༆ Symmetrical ratings assigned are based on available short-circuit
current at locations where the X/R ratio is 15. The interrupting ratings
expressed in amperes, RMS, asymmetrical are 1.6 times the symmetrical
ratings listed. Higher symmetrical ratings have been determined for these
fuses applied at lower system voltages and in locations where X/R = 10
and X/R = 5. These higher ratings as well as asymmetrical ratings are
given in S&C Descriptive Bulletin 242-30.
