PLP CORE MARKETs COMMUNICATIONS ENERGY SPECIAL INDUSTRIES SOLAR DATA ENCLOSURES switchgear and protection RACK TECHNOLOGIES Rack Technologies was founded in Sydney, Australia on March 15th 1990 and was acquired by Preformed Line Products (Australia) Pty Limited on 1st April, 2000. The company is a specialist manufacturer of rack system enclosures and accessories for the communications, data centres, electronic, security and electrical industries. Rack Technologies has emerged as one of Australia and New Zealand’s largest manufacturers of system enclosures and accessories. Rack Technologies maintains a dominant position in most markets in which it operates. Significant resources are being deployed in all operational areas to facilitate continued growth and expansion. The company has design as well as manufacturing capabilities, aimed at the production of special cabinets to suit particular projects and to satisfy the unique requirements of end users. Mr. Malcolm Stewart Managing Director PLP Australia A full range of enclosures designed to service the day-to-day requirements of customers is also produced. The philosophy of Rack Technologies is founded on the principles of quality, service and attention to detail. We aim to transform these values into unique and dynamic outcomes that are second-to-none. In order to attain and maintain the above objectives, Rack Technologies relies on the implementation of a Certified Quality Management System with the requirement of AS/NZS ISO 9001-2008. Rack Technologies enclosures comply with International Standard IEC297. www.racktechnologies.com.au COMPANY CAPABILITIES Aluminium Die-Casting Plastic Extrusion Aluminium/stainless Steel Welding To meet the need for both short lead times and guaranteed strength, PLP has invested in an in-house aluminium casting facility, complementing its diverse range of products. Daily testing and a rigorous assessment system, aim to ensure the consistent quality of final products. Most casting processes use alloys, of CC401 and 601 grades. In many situations, our market requires plastic extruded, rather then injection moulded products. Where plastic extrusions are required, PLP offers a full range of extrusion capabilities, enabling the creation of products suited to full outdoor use, in both hollow and solid sections. Utilising both MIG and TIG welding, PLP manufactures everything from simple steel “Eye-Nuts” to complex aluminium busbars, which are required for major substations. All PLP welders are trained and certified in the welding of busbar and compression terminals. As part of the PLP training program, certification includes confirmation by X-Ray and weld testing. Sheet Metal Fabrication Tool Design and Manufacturing Powder Coating PLP has a range of CNC-turret presses, brake presses and spot welders, as well as a powder coating line. These, combined with our highly motivated engineering team, enable us to offer our customers a complete solution to their sheet metal needs, regardless of whether they seek a steel computer rack or individual sheet metal components. Materials predominantly utilised range from stainless steel and aluminium to various zinc seals and galvanised metals. To enable a highly diverse and flexible manufacturing environment, combined with quick turnaround on tooling, PLP employs a tooling design department. It utilises equipment such as its recently acquired CNC machining centre, EDM and wire cut machines, coupled with sophisticated CAD/ CAM systems. PLP manufactures all forging, wire forming and aluminium die-casting tools, as well as plastic moulding dies. The most recent addition to the broad range of PLP’s in-house capabilities is the new powder coating line, which uses the most recent technology available. This powder coating capability permits products to be manufactured, coated and packed without leaving the facility. This reduces the amount of transport involved in the process and consequently decreases the associated risks of aesthetic damage and extended lead times. Wire Forming Ferrous Non-Ferrous Forging Precision Engineering To respond quickly to both large and small volume requirements, PLP’s wire-forming section has reduced set up times. PLP has also re-engineered the production line to allow for speedy change over times between galvanised high tensile steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminium and aluminium-clad wires in diameters ranging from 1.6mm to 9.27mm. Utilising in-house drop hammers, upsetters and screw presses, PLP offers a full range of forging services. Materials such as high carbon steel, mild steel, stainless steel, copper and aluminium, can be forged as well as heat-treated when required. The in-house, Lloyds certified, tensile testing facility ensures that production capability is maintained and customer specifications are met. The Engineering Department at PLP is the place where technology meets customer needs. Whilst continually striving to embrace new technologies and materials in order to address both current and future requirements, the engineering area must also design within the strict limitations of applicable standards. This challenge results in our Engineering Department covering a very broad spectrum of materials and engineering disciplines. Plastic Injection MOULDING CNC Manufacturing PLP prides itself on its range of outdoor, high strength injection moulded products, which can withstand total UV exposure in the most hazardous of environmental conditions. The range of our moulding machine capacity extends from minimal to 365 MT. The fully programmable CNC machining centre allows for the automatic production of many of the precision turned parts required for our market, eliminating the need for operator intervention. Speed of manufacture, combined with consistency of product, are two major benefits of employing such equipment . www.racktechnologies.com.au R T C O M P A N Y INTRODUCTION Rack technologies Rack Technologies is a proud Australian manufacturer of 600 and 800 wide rack system enclosures and accessories for the communications, electronic, data centre and security industries. An equipment rack is the skeletal framework in which key components are arranged and interconnected. Rack design involves the process of selecting options to meet the needs of a specific installation. Equipment is not just mounted in a rack haphazardly. Special considerations is given regarding how much heat a piece of equipment emits, the types of signals sent to and from the equipment, whether or not the equipment features an interface component for a typical user and more. Rack designs requires substantial pre-planning and attention to all system elements. When carefully planning the design of equipment racks, consider the following: • What are the major considerations regarding equipment rack layout? • Is the necessary electrical cabling to be installed in the rack? • Where are the pipes, conduit and trays running to the rack to be located? • Will the pipes, conduit and trays have sufficient room to carry the cables to the rack? • What joinery is necessary to finishing the rack? • How will cabling run within the rack? • How are system power requirements to be best communicated to the rest of the design team? • How will heat created by the equipment be handled? • How can heavier and longer equipment be loaded onto the bottom of the rack? Intelligent In-Cabinet Cooling System (IICCS) installed in rack RACK types Wall mount rack With the proper hardware, wall mount racks attach to any type of wall. They swing open, enabling the technicians to access equipment from the rear. Installers should understand the structural issues associated with the installation of this type of rack to determine the wall’s capacity to hold the weight of the populated rack. Standard Wall Rack (WR) frame 16 Ph: +612.8805.0050 height and width panel width Panel widths varies according to rack type. The interior width of the rack must be sufficient enough to accommodate different types of equipment. Standard rack equipment features a rack space width of 19" inches. rack height Rack height ranges from over 2.2m to less than 30cm. Racks are also classified by their vertical mounting space. The specification is given as the number of Rack Units (RUs) available for equipment mounting. A single rack unit is 1.75 inches (44.45mm). Equipment is also typically measured in RUs. Some equipment, like larger servers, can be 10RU or more. On each of the side mounting rails, there are typically two or three punched holes for each rack unit. Caged nuts are inserted into the holes for the mounting of equipment. rack accessories If you think of a rack as an organisation space, it is a lot like a cupboard. Just as you can have space dividers, shelves and drawers in a cupboard, similar accessories are available for racks. Blank panels are metal panels mounted in empty spaces between pieces of equipment. Rack Technologies manufactures all types of accessories, including: • Drawers, suitable for storing microphones, remote controls, cables and documentation • Shelves, ideal for consumer equipment that is not rack mountable • Sliding shelves, which provide easier access • Lighting, helpful in a dimly lit presentation rack • Power rails with circuit breakers, are available in 5 and 10 way horizontal and 5, 10 and 20 way vertical Vertical power rails Horizontal power rails Illustration showing rack dimensions Vertical power rail installed sales@rack-tech.com 17 R T I con definition Rack Technologies racks comply with International Standard IEC297 and is endorsed by the SCEC. The fully enclosed cabinet addresses the customer’s requirement to house high-density copper and fibre optic patching facilities, together with large, chassis-based active equipment. The High-Density cabinet is designed around the iQ cable management system, whereas in most other cabinet designs, the iQ cable management system is a secondary thought. The system controls cable bend radius with the vertical finger design, which also accommodates large volumes of patch cables that travel vertically within the enclosure. The High-Density cabinet has optimises the space available within the cabinet. It is also capable of housing large, chassis-based switch equipment, and managing the high volume of cabling generally required. cable management features: • Perfectly suited to limited space application, this cabinet features the capacity for three mounting faces • The traditional 800mm or 900mm deep cabinet enables deeper active and patching type installations • Now includes room and 19" rack mounting provision on the side for patching • Active equipment may be installed in the standard manner • Large cable bays can be positioned to enable bulk cable management • Brush strip cable entry is available • These cabinets are made to order. The IICCS is designed to be mounted inside a sealed server cabinet fitted with an in-cabinet airflow management system, which prevents the mixing of hot and cold air streams. In operation, hot exhausted server air is drawn into the IICCS through variable speed fans, transferring heat to an inbuilt water coil that is constantly fed chilled water, piped from a remote water chiller. The cold conditioned air is then directed into the cold air plenum at the front of the cabinet, where it can be consumed by the servers. The process is then repeated. Contact Rack Technologies to determine the right solution for your project needs. ADVANTAGES cooling unit • Avoids need for dedicated server room / closet for noisy IT equipment • Minimal footprint (or space requirements) • No additional building construction headaches • One point of contact for complete solution • Fast installation • Cost effective in the long term • Enables the cooling of just a rack, rather than an entire room • Adjusts cooling capacity quickly, to match server loads • Built in monitoring and safety features • System alarm via ethernet, email, SNMP and Bacnet • System can be checked remotely at any time • Optional door opening sensors • Optional alarm /monitoring via SMS notification • 3.5kW capacity • Whisper-quiet operation • Minimal RU space • Intelligent remote access and monitoring • Environmentally friendly OH&S FEATURES • Quiet operation; sound proofed for office environments • High pressure pipe work and fixings incorporated • Concealed water piping solutions, which meet OH&S • Cabinet is fixed to the floor • Hi-visual warning labels in place • IICCS contains no hazardous gas refrigerant The IICCS can be incorporated with our Data Centre racks, standard communication racks, IP cabinets and security cabinets. Where any specification for the Goods are to be supplied by the Customer, they must be supplied in a reasonable time to enable the Company to complete delivery by the date for delivery. CONTRACT The terms of contract between the parties are wholly contained in these Terms and any other writing signed by both parties. The contract is deemed to have been made at the Company’s place of business in Sydney and any cause of action is deemed to have arisen there. The provisions of the United Nations Convention on contracts for the International Sale of Goods adopted at Vienna, Austria on 10 April 1980 do not apply to any Goods supplied by the Company to the Customer. FORCE MAJEURE The Company will not be liable for any breach of contract due to any matter or thing beyond the Company’s control (including but not limited to transport stoppages, transport breakdown, fire, flood, earthquake, acts of God, strikes, lock-outs, work stoppages, wars, riots or civil commotion, intervention of public authority, explosion or accident). At the Customer’s request, the Company will arrange for the delivery of the Goods into the Customer’s store at the Company’s expense. WAIVER OF BREACH No failure by the Company to insist on strict performances of any of the terms in these Terms is a waiver of any right or remedy which the Company may have, and is not a waiver of any subsequent breach or default by the Customer. DELIVERY BY INSTALLMENTS The Company reserves the right to deliver the Goods in whole or by installments, as well as to deliver prior to the date for delivery and in such event the Customer must not refuse to take delivery of the Goods. NO ASSIGNMENT Neither the Agreement nor any rights arising under the Agreement may be assigned by the Customer without the prior written consent of the Company which is at the Company’s absolute discretion. Where the Goods are delivered by installments, each installment is sold under a separate contract. Any failure on the part of the Company to deliver installments within any specified time does not entitle the Customer to repudiate the contract with regard to the balance remaining undelivered. SEVERABILITY If any provision contained in these Conditions of Sale is held by a court to be unlawful, invalid or unenforceable, the validity and enforceability of the remaining provisions are not affected.
