The essence of wide-area lighting This modular media luminaire represents the latest generation of lighting, using diffuse,
wide-area light as a flexible design element for ceilings, walls and
objects. CIELOS is not a custom-made item, yet it is tailored to the
user’s needs. Easy to assemble and install, easy to maintain. This
is what makes CIELOS highly attractive, even for smaller rooms.
Even just a single lighting module will create a pleasant, emotional
atmosphere that is enhanced as each new module is added. Each
module is uniformly illuminated right up to the edge, thus combining
smoothly to form a luminous ceiling.

The CIELOS luminaire stays in control of the situation in any position. All versions can be used as a solo performer or as part of a
luminaire cluster. The fact that fixing and installation are completed
in just a few simple steps is a feature that appeals to the practicallyminded. There are surface mounting and pendant options for ceilings. CIELOS can be fixed directly onto walls as a vertical design
feature.

CIELOS MONOCHROME
CIELOS BICOLOURED
CIELOS MONOCHROME produces light in one static colour. This colour is defined by the T16 light source; strikingly
intense colours can be obtained by using colour filters.
Single-colour modules are available in switchable and dimmable versions, each in two sizes. The 900 x 900 x 80 mm
module is fitted with six fluorescent lamps whereas the
smaller module measuring 600 x 600 x 80 mm is designed
for four light sources.
CIELOS BICOLOURED makes it possible to mix two colours. The two endpoints of the colour sequence are defined by the light source (with or without colour filters).
If a white and a blue light source are used, for instance,
all intermediate hues, from clear white to intense blue,
can be produced via various dimming levels. The 2-colour module measures 900 x 900 x 150 mm and is fitted
with two sets of four T16 fluorescent lamps.

CIELOS MULTICOLOURED generates millions of colour
hues using the RGB colour mixing principle. This provides almost unlimited scope for playing with colours
and hues. Lighting scenes that are relaxing and harmonious, refreshing or eccentric can be implemented.
Besides the T16 version, CIELOS MULTICOLOURED
is also available as an LED luminaire in module sizes
900 x 900 x 150 mm and 600 x 600 x 150 mm.
The CIELOS MOVE media luminaire is a dynamic presentation panel that supports films, images and animations. Its technical lighting core is a matrix of LED pixels
that extends beyond the limits of an individual module
in a cluster. A Video Control Unit, which was specially
developed for CIELOS, controls predefined and custom
sequences in the two different sized modules
(900 x 900 x 150 mm and 600 x 600 x 150 mm).

Monochrome but certainly not dim
The colour location CIELOS is more than just a means of illumination. Wide-area lighting creates emotions, like the type of light we
are familiar with in nature. Wide-area white ambient lighting is especially popular in shops, waiting rooms and entrance areas. If the
monochrome luminaire is fitted with coloured lamps and colour filters, this will provide for extremely intensive accents. Richly coloured
CIELOS modules, for instance, attract the attention of passers-by
and evoke the emotions of participants in discussions.

CIELOS BICOLOURED
From one colour to the next
Linear colour mixing A two-colour range is defined by its endpoints – the two colour locations of the lamps, every colour hue between these endpoints can be produced by different dimming levels.
In conference rooms, for instance, CIELOS can combine white with
white to increase users’ alertness levels through dynamic changes
from warm (2700 K) to cool (6000 K). In contrast, in shops CIELOS
BICOLOURED is often used to provide intermediate ambient lighting
combined with contrasting colour accents.

Infinite variety
Interplay of colours In the RGB colour space, creativity is paramount. Colours can be mixed as required, using intensive colour
hues or emotive colour registers. The scope for individual preferences in terms of accents and emotions is virtually boundless. One important detail – many conventional glass diffusers have a greenish
hue that makes the light appear sallow. Not so the high-quality safety glass used in CIELOS. It presents brilliant colours to the onlooker.

Dynamic light shows
The luminaire as a medium As a lighting object that supports
dynamic presentations, CIELOS MOVE makes a big impression.
Innovative LED and control technologies bring the lighting module to
life. Every lighting point can be individually controlled and the video
control unit makes it possible to transfer images, image sequences
and messages to the surface of the luminaire. With appropriate programming, almost any pattern can be played back, from clouds
floating across flower meadows to abstract geometrical patterns.

CIELOS MOVE cluster packages

All inclusive Preconfigured solution packages make it possible to
deploy CIELOS MOVE quickly and without fuss. This plug-and-play
package comprises luminaires, a video control unit and five video
sequences. The dimensions of these animations are optimised to
suit the respective cluster format. Further video shows are available
from Zumtobel. In addition, the video control unit’s ArtNet interface
allows customers to play back animations they have created themselves on CIELOS MOVE.

Five video animations are stored on an SD
card as standard. To play them back, simply
insert the card in the video control unit. The
various videos can be called up via the control
point.
Assembly and maintenance Plenty of well thought-out details are
the simplest way to a perfect solution. Although CIELOS luminous
fields are built up from individual modules, they ensure an impressively uniform ceiling look and the joints between individual elements
are almost invisible. Extra small, but extremely strong, metal clips
firmly secure the glass panels in any mounting position. The optic
and mounting frame are a sealed unit which is simply slung from the
safety steel cords for maintenance purposes. A rubber seal between
the luminaire and ceiling protects against dust and scattered light.
Strong magnetic catches ensure maximum safety – no catch can be
forgotten and the glass cover is perfectly seated on the housing.
Magnetic catches have one significant maintenance advantage: even
a CIELOS unit that is surrounded on all sides can be opened individually.

CIELOS cord suspension The extra-slender cord suspension assembly is intended for luminous ceilings comprising up to eight luminaires. The steel cords and their securely fixed metal brackets fulfil
two functions: they ensure secure retention of the luminaire while also joining the modules together, eliminating the need for any other
connectors. The luminaire modules can therefore be mounted and
adjusted quickly. The cord suspension assembly requires minimum
space of 90 mm. An 80 mm high suspended CIELOS luminaire thus
requires just 170 mm of room height, the 150 mm high luminaires
need only 240 mm.

CIELOS on ZX2 trunking This highly robust trunking provides the
requisite stability and safety for luminous ceilings consisting of nine
or more CIELOS modules and makes full use of its tried-and-tested
installation benefits. Suspension and adjustment are very straightforward allowing great craftsmanship without being timeconsuming.
The trunking requires a height of just 230 mm. Allow a total of 310
mm for a single-colour CIELOS luminous ceiling on trunking. Multicolour modules require 380 mm of room height.

Cord suspension is recommended if there are eight or fewer luminaires. Perfectly positioned matching metal brackets simplify suspension and precise alignment of individual modules of a luminous

Nine or more CIELOS luminaires need the stability provided by
trunking. Easy to assemble and adjust, the ZX2 trunking units can
be arranged anywhere in the room. Connection to other ceiling systems is also possible. When doing so, make sure that all CIELOS
modules are attached to the strong ZX2 trunking unit. All types of
drywall ceilings can be butted up against a CIELOS luminous ceiling, but ceiling and luminous field cannot be mechanically joined.
Wealth of colours
Individually defined, intuitively controlled
CIELOS MONOCHROME
A T16 fluorescent lamp gives the monochrome CIELOS
unit its colour. Standard momentary-action switches
and dimmers are just as suitable as the EMOTION touch
panel for operating the dimmable modules. Another
consideration: even when it is switched off, the CIELOS
lighting module is attractive to look at.
EMOTION touch panel With this creative tool for dynamic lighting,
stringing together various colours and lighting intensities is child’s
play. The entire world of colours opens up with a gentle push of the
finger. The EMOTION touch panel can control up to 128 CIELOS
lighting units and is an all-in-one operating and programming device.
Professional colour shows can be produced, stored and retrieved via
the touch panel.

CIELOS BICOLOURED
CIELOS MULTICOLOURED
The available colour palette varies linearly between the
two colour locations of the T16 fluorescent lamps with
their colour filters. If they are replaced, the colour range
also shifts. Mixed colours are produced by dimming the
two differently coloured light sources. For example, if
the white light source is dimmed to 90 % and the blue
light source is dimmed to 20 %, CIELOS produces light
blue light. Mixing of colours is intuitive on the EMOTION
touch panel and colour nuances can also be dimmed.
This paves the way to dynamic, definable, individually
timed colour sequences. The touch panel combines
convenient operation with intelligent control.
Even though the technology of the LED module is fundamentally different from that of the T16 model, colour
mixing follows the same RGB principle with both models. Mixing the three primary colours in different proportions provides a choice of millions of colours. Operation
and programming are nevertheless really simple. The
EMOTION touch panel edits a sequence of lighting
scenes graphically, thus making it a tangible screenplay
in the truest sense of the word. Colour transitions and
effects can be set with a few finger presses and played
as desired in individually programmable time cycles.
The colour palette that can be called up makes selecting a colour easier. Special corporate design colours
can be modified appropriately using the touch panel’s
colour definition function. Colours defined by a specific
mix ratio can also be dimmed.

EMOTION touch panel
One-stop shop The EMOTION touch panel is an operating and addressing unit for up to 128 DALI addresses (electronic ballasts) that
are divided up into two DALI chains of 64 addresses each. One DALI
EMOTION-BV power supply is required for each chain. Data is
backed up onto an SD/MMC card and can thus easily be transferred
to other panels. A built-in timer control makes it possible to define
colour changes on a timeline and run them automatically. And the
best thing is that CIELOS luminaires and the EMOTION touch panel
are a perfectly matched pair that can be played and operated easily
without the need for tedious training. Many of their functions are
self-explanatory – thanks to clear, easily understandable, languageindependent icons.
