NZQA Expiring unit standard 7487 version 5 Page 1 of 3 Title Use the design process to solve design problems Level 1 Credits 3 Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify and investigate problems established by a design brief; use the design process to develop design ideas for the identified problems; and use the design process to identify possible solutions, and evaluate design ideas in relation to the brief. Classification Design > Generic Design Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 This unit standard may be used to award credit for the achievement of learning outcomes consistent with Technology in the New Zealand Curriculum (Learning Media Wellington, 1995). 2 Learning associated with this unit standard could involve processes such as independently gather information, contribute to group sessions, produce conceptual sketches using quick techniques, show possible design ideas, communicate these ideas within the peer group, and identify potential solutions within the concept ideas and evaluate these independently. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Identify and investigate problems established by a design brief. Evidence requirements 1.1 Problems described in the brief are identified. 1.2 Identified problems are ordered in terms of importance, and are recorded. 1.3 Design ideas and information gathered relate to the problems identified in the design brief. Outcome 2 Use the design process to develop design ideas for the identified problems. Outcome 3 Use the design process to identify possible solutions, and evaluate design ideas in relation to the brief. Evidence requirements 3.1 Exploration of design ideas identifies possible solutions relevant to the brief. 3.2 Evaluation of design ideas in relation to the requirements of the brief enables design development to take place. Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Consent requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
