From the family garage, to the industry leading company of today
Established in 1972 by Patrick and Patricia Nicklin in their garage, HVC began by simply buying and selling
pressed steel grilles and registers to warm air heating installers in the Black Country and wider West
Midlands area.
In time the founders’ sons, Jonathan and Jason joined the company, and with the next generation came a
new desire to design and manufacture their own products. Initially starting out with simple grilles, the range
grew over time to span from grilles and diffusers, to external louvre systems and dampers.
The first decade of the 2000’s brought the third generation of Nicklin family members into the company,
meaning there are now three generations of the founding family working alongside an established
management team with decades of invaluable experience, and a dedicated workforce which often includes
multiple generations of the same families.
This structure of management and workforce gives HVC qualities few other companies can hope to match,
with an attitude to business based on long term relationships with customers, suppliers and staff.
HVC by the numbers >>>
 £7.9 million turnover in 2014.
 Approximately 100 full time staff.
 70,000 square foot production facility.
 Over £2 million worth of stock.
 A technical department with over 70 years of combined industry experience.
 An established and highly experienced management team and workforce, working alongside three
generations of the Nicklin family.
LSE 1000 companies to inspire Britain
The Guild of Master Craftsmen
At the start of 2014, HVC were named by the London Stock
Exchange Group as one of their 1000 companies to inspire
Britain.
HVC is a corporate member of The Guild of Master
Craftsmen, a privilege only extended to trusted and reliable
companies who demonstrate a long term commitment to
quality and customer service.
To be included in this list, companies had to be small to
medium sized enterprises, and demonstrate not only a growth
in revenue over the past 4 years, but also an increase in
employee numbers, workspace, contract wins or patent filings.

Since 2010 we have:
 Achieved ISO 9001 accreditation.
 Relocated to larger premises, increasing our total workspace from less than 30,000 to over 70,000 square feet.
 Fitted 560 solar panels to our factory roof, insulating us from future fuel cost rises and reducing our carbon footprint.
 Invested heavily into new tooling and facilities to improve quality and increase productivity.
 Introduced the latest 3D computer aided design software into the business, allowing rapid product design and testing.

Acoustic louvres
Series AL
Series AL acoustic louvres are specialist external louvres, designed
primarily for areas like plant rooms or inner city car parks, where
noise generated by machinery or vehicles cannot be allowed to leak
into the surrounding area.
Using a twin part aluminium blade infilled with mineral wool, HVC
acoustic louvres offer a high resistance to rain ingress, whilst also
having the sufficient depth to provide useful levels of sound
attenuation throughout a wide range of frequencies.
Available in 150mm, 300mm and 600mm deep variants.
Sand trap louvres
Series STL
Series STL sand trap louvres are specialist louvres which have
been independently tested by BSRIA to BS EN 13181:2001, and
proven to catch up to 92.5% of sand and dust.
With two banks of interlocking vertical blades, sand trap louvres are
designed to be the primary filters for air intakes in areas where
airborne sand and dust are prevalent.
The open ended blade design prevents clogging of the louvre, in
contrast to the use of drain holes which are prone to becoming
blocked.
High performance louvres
Series HPL
An independently tested weather louvre, certified by BSRIA to
provide ‘Class A’ rain protection when tested against
BS EN 13030:2001.
With a primary bank of standard weather louvre blades, Series HPL
louvres have a conventional appearance, perfect for installations
where high performance louvres may sit alongside standard
louvres, or site-assembly louvre cladding.
At the rear, two banks of vertical channels act to catch any water
which penetrates the outer blades, this then falls into a drip cill
mounted at the base of the louvre, and flows out through a
concealed gap between the bottom blade and the frame.
sales@h-v-c.com
17
Double bank louvres
Series DBL
Series DBL double bank louvres are a specialist louvre system
making use of a chevron type blade, designed to provide elevated
levels of rain rejection, whilst also providing a non vision quality by
blocking direct line of sight through the louvre.
Making use of a new single piece blade extrusion, DBL louvres are
among the lightest louvres available in their class, and their slimline
construction is just 100mm deep.
Combination units
Combination units are an assembly of products, rather than a stand
alone product line.
Select from any HVC louvre system, and any HVC or NCA volume
control damper model, and we can factory assemble them to create
an easy to install, integrated unit, performing both louvre and
volume control functions.
The main advantage of combination units is that the two
components are factory assembled to make one easy to install
assembly.
Our in house design team will ensure your selected components
work together perfectly, with you only needing to tell us the hole size
and what components you require.
Penthouse louvres
Series PHL
Also known as turret louvres, penthouse louvres are designed for
roof mounting and are frequently employed in natural ventilation
applications.
Penthouse louvres are often used in conjunction with other HVC
products, like insulated volume control dampers, transition ducts
and internal grilles, to form an integrated natural ventilation
assembly performing air intake, volume control and air diffusion in
one complete package.
Available in standard and high performance Class A rain rejection
models.

Aluminium volume control dampers
Series HVC-VCD
An excellent and beautifully simple volume control damper,
HVC-VCDs have an incredibly low torque operation, enabling
dampers of several square metres to be driven from a single motor
or manual control point.
The linkage is contained entirely outside of the airstream to ensure
long life and minimal maintenance.
Normally intended for balancing purposes, HVC-VCDs can also be
equipped with additional seals to create a low leakage variant, and
high temperature parts can also be specified enabling use in
environments where temperatures reach up to 300°C.

Back draught / non-return dampers
Series BDS
Back draught shutters, also known as non-return dampers, are
passive devices, which only permit airflow in one direction.
Like HVC-VCDs they can be made in large sizes, and the all
aluminium construction ensures light weight and high resistance to
corrosion.
Options include linked and weighted blades, which for larger sizes
and or high air velocities are highly recommended.
Opposed blade dampers
Series OBD
Not usually sold as a standalone product, opposed blade dampers
are an option for grilles and diffusers and provide the facility to
balance air locally, rather than relying on volume control dampers
further into ductwork.
Adjustable using a flathead screwdriver or square ended key.
