The National Science Foundation seeks to assist students who have the following qualities:

Committed to pursuing an associate’s degree in the following: biology, chemistry, computer science,
environmental science, mathematics, or pre-engineering.
Program Overview
The scholarship is open to prospective or current St. Philip’s College students interested in majoring in biology,
chemistry, computer science, environmental science, mathematics, or pre-engineering.
Included are
• Scholarship to cover tuition, books, in-state conferences, field trips and workshops.
• The scholarship is paid through a monthly stipend of $500.00 for the first year and $583.33 for the
second year, which is a total of $13,000.00 for school and living expenses.
• The loan of a laptop computer. Upon graduation or completion of 66 credit hours in two years, as
outlined in the contract, you will receive ownership of the laptop.

Prospective or current St. Philip’s College students who have a grade average of at least a “B”.
Maintain an overall GPA of 2.8.
Have not previously earned a bachelor’s degree.
Student must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident. Students must reside in the United States.
Declare a major in biology, chemistry, computer science, environmental science, mathematics, or preengineering.
Application Requirements
The following documents must be submitted by each applicant:
1. Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA)—online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
2. National Science Foundation (NSF) application. Click here for the application form.
3. Three letters of support attesting to your work ethic, academic level, motivation, time management and
communication skills.
4. A 1000-word essay explaining student’s academic goals.
5. Copy of high school and college transcripts (if currently enrolled in college or has taken college classes).
