Applicants must be United States citizens or nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States.
Degree Requirements; Applicants may apply:
o During the senior year of college
o After graduating from college but prior to entering graduate school
o During the first year of graduate school
o Prior to completing the first term of the second year of graduate school.

Applicants must have completed no more than twelve (12) months of full-time graduate
study or its equivalent as of August 31, 2014. Full time graduate study is as defined by the
universities attended.
Fellowships are awarded for graduate study leading to research-based master’s or doctoral degrees in the
fields of science, technology, engineering, social sciences and mathematics supported by the National
Science Foundation (see website for details)
Demonstrated academic achievement, leadership skills
Compelling personal statement, extensive research experience, and sound research proposal
High GRE scores a major plus
Interested in diversity in the sciences
Description: The National Science Foundation aims to ensure the vitality of the human resource base of science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics in the United States and to reinforce its diversity by offering approximately
900-2,000 graduate fellowships in this competition pending availability of funds. The Graduate Research Fellowship
provides three years of support for graduate study leading to research-based master’s or doctoral degrees and is
intended for students who are in the early stages of their graduate study. The Graduate Research Fellowship
Program (GRFP) invests in graduate education for a cadre of diverse individuals who demonstrate their potential to
successfully complete graduate degree programs in disciplines relevant to the mission of the National Science
Foundation.
Award Amount: $32,000 living stipend & $12,000 for tuition for 3 years (total $132,000)
