MOVE OUT CHECKLIST
Change mailing address with: banks, credit cards,
subscriptions, etc.
Remove all graffiti, tape, fun tac and hooks from walls
and décor.
Empty and clean all drawers, cupboards, shelves and
closets.
Pick up and dispose of all litter and ensure flooring is
clean. Do not push debris into the hallway.
(You may ask the front desk for extra garbage bags.)
Defrost, clean and re-plug fridge. (Start this process a few

Guidelines for resident students in Upper Rez (Gardner, Molson, McConnell and Douglas Hall),
Royal Victoria College (RVC), Carrefour Sherbrooke (CS), New Residence Hall (NRH), La Citadelle (LC).
As you prepare for your move out, please take the time to READ this guide which outlines the entire process.
Remember: your lease expires on April 30th, 2016 and all rooms must be vacated on this date at noon.
EXTENDED & LONG TERM STAY
Students wishing to extend their stay for a few
nights, weeks, or into the summer months, must
complete the RESERVATION REQUEST
FORM. The form must be completed and returned
no later than Monday, April 18, 2016 along with
your payment for the extended stay. The form is
available at the front desk and downloadable here:

all those who may send you mail

BALANCES &
DEPOSITS
• Please ensure that your account
has been paid in full with the
front desk prior to move-out.
Any accounts found to be
outstanding will be transfered to
your student fee account.
• All deposit refunds for hockey
room keys, bed boards, etc.
must be claimed no later than
April 30, 2016.
CLOTHING &
FOOD COLLECTION
• Collection boxes will be in the
lobbies of your respective rez.
• Once again we will be collecting
non-perishable food
items you may have
for the Yellow Door’s
“Food For Thought”
food bank program benefiting
McGill students.
• This year SHHS is partnering
with Renaissance, a non-profit
organization,
to
collect
clothing
and
household
accessories you no longer need.
• Cutlery, dishes and cups
from the dining halls must
be returned to them. Other
personal tableware you wish to
purge may be carefully packed
and put in the Renaissance box.
RETURN KEYS
& CARDS
• Please ensure your room door
is LOCKED prior to vacating
your room.
• All keys and/or keycards must
be returned to your Front Desk.
• If keys are not returned by
April 30th, 2016 noon, you will
be charged a lock change fee.
• For Upper Rez, keys must
be returned to the Front Desk

during posted move-out hours.
For after-hours, slide them
through the mail slot located
on the main doors of BMH.
The keys must be together and
identified with your name, room
number and building.
• Once the keys are returned,
you are officially considered
moved out.
STORAGE
• If you wish to use the hall
storage facilities over the summer
holidays, your belongings must
be packed in boxes or trunks.
No pieces of furniture will
be accepted. Mark each item
clearly with your name, student
ID number, room number, and
date. Space is limited; therefore
storage is on a first come, first
serve basis. Please contact your
Porter at Upper Rez or the
front desk at your respective rez
during their work hours, prior
to April 18, 2016, to arrange
for storage.
• Boxes and packing tape are
available for you to purchase as
of April 13, 2016 at $1.00 each.
Quantities are limited, don’t
miss out!
• Please note that McGill
University will not assume
responsibility for items left
in storage. You may wish to
purchase personal insurance
for your goods if they are not
already covered.
• You are required to leave your
room as you found it, clean and
free of debris. Extra cleaning
charges will apply to any room
with garbage or items remaining
in it. Please ensure that you:

only), including the bathtub,
sink, counter, in and around
your toilet, under the sink, the
tile surrounding the bathtub,
mirrors, walls, floor, etc.
2. Vacuum your carpet (applicable
to NRH, CS and LC only).
• Upon your return for the fall
semester 2016, please remember
to contact the Hall Porters or
front desks to arrange for the
retrieval of your belongings
from storage. Note that staff
members are not here on
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
during the summer months. All
items in storage will have to
be removed according to the
schedule below. Any items left
after this date will be removed
and donated or discarded.
3. Remove all masking tape,
“fun tac”, hooks and scotch tape
from walls, windows and doors,
including any bottle caps stuck to
the ceiling/walls.

c. Clean and wipe down the
defrosted fridge with a damp cloth.
d. Re-plug the fridge.
9. Do not sweep your garbage
into the hall corridor. Any
hallway found to be littered
with garbage, room objects, etc.
will have extra cleaning charges
applied to the whole wing/floor.
10. Any resident (or their
belongings) found in the
residence halls after having
returned their keys, will be
treated as a resident extending
their stay and will be charged the
nightly fee until they and their
belongings have vacated. The
corridors or other public areas of
the residences may NOT be used
for storing your belongings.
