ORGANIZATION
The E l e c t r o n i c s I n s t a l l a t i o n and Maintenance
Book IEIMB) was established as the medium f o r
c o l l e c t i n g , ' publishing, and d i s t r i b u t i n g , i n
one convenient source document, those subordinate maintenance and r e p a i r p o l i c i e s , i n s t a l l a t i o n p r a c t i c e s , and o v e r a l l e l e c t r o n i c equipment and m a t e r i a l - hand1ing proceduraes r e q u i r e d
t o implement the major p o l i c i e s s e t f o r t h i n
Chapter 400 o f the Naval Ships' Technical
Manual. A l l data contained w i t h i n t h e EIMB
d e r i v e t h e i r a u t h o r i t y from Chapter 400 o f the
Naval Ships' Technical Manual, as established
i n accordance w i t h A r t i c l e 1201, U.S. Navy
Regulations.
The EIMB i s organized i n t o a s e r i e s o f
handbooks t o a f f o r d ~xiIn4Jmf l e x i b i l i t y and
ease i n handling. The handbooks a r e stocked
and issued as separate items so t h a t i n d i v i d u a l handbooks may be obtained as needed.
Since i t s i n c e p t i o n the EIMB has been
expanded t o i n c l u d e selected i n f o r m a t i o n of
general i n t e r e s t t o e l e c t r o n i c i n s t a l l a t i o n
and maintenance personnel. These items are
such as would g e n e r a l l y be contained i n t e x t books, p e r i o d i c a l s , o r technical papers, and
form (along w i t h the i n f o r m a t i o n c i t e d above)
a comprehensive reference document. I n appl ic a t i o n , t h e EIMB i s t o be used f o r i n f o r m a t i o n
and guidance by a l l m i l i t a r y and c i v i l i a n
personnel involved i n the i n s t a l l a t i o n , maintenance, and r e p a i r o f e l e c t r o n i c equipment
under cognizance, o r t e c h n i c a l c o n t r o l , o f the
Naval Sea S y s t a n ~Comnand (NAYSEA). The
information, i n s t r u c t i o n s , and procedures, i n
t h e EIMB supplement i n s t r u c t i o n s and data
supplied i n equipment t e c h n i c a l manuals and
o t h e r approved maintenance pub1i c a t i o n s .
The handbooks f a l l w i t h i n two categories:
general i n f o r m a t i o n handbooks, and equipmento r i e n t e d handbooks. The general i n f o r m a t i o n
handbooks c o n t a i n data which are o f i n t e r e s t
t o a l l personnel involved i n i n s t a l l a t i o n and
mai ntenance, regardless o f t h e i r equi w e n t
s p e c i a l t y . The t i t l e s o f the v a r i o u s general
information handbooks g i v e an o v e r a l l idea o f
t h e i r data content; the General Handbook
includes more complete d e s c r i p t i o n s o f each
handbook.
The equipment handbooks a r e devoted t o
i n f o r m a t i o n about p a r t i c u l a r classes o f equipment. They include general t e s t procedures,
adjustments , general s e r v i c i n g i n f o r m a t i o n ,
and f i e l d change i d e n t i f i c a t i o n data.

HANDBOOK TITLE
P e r i o d i c r e v i s i o n s are made t o provide t h e
b e s t c u r r e n t data i n the EIMB and keep abreast
o f new developments. I n doing t h i s , many
source documents are researched t o o b t a i n
p e r t i n e n t information. Some o f these sources
i n c l u d e the E l e c t r o n i c s I n f o r m a t i o n B u l l e t i n

stock number f o r the "BASIC" provides the
handbook ( w i t h v i n y l cover) and a l l applicable
changes.

suggestions. To encourage more a c t i v e p a r t i
clpatlon, a pre-addressed comnent sheet i s
provided i n the back o f each handbook change.
Complete information should be given when
preparing suggestions. Suggestors are encouraged t o include t h e i r names and addresses so
t h a t c l a r i f y i n g correspondence can be i n i t i a t e d
when necessary. Such correspondence w i l l be
by l e t t e r d i r e c t l y t o the i n d i v i d u a l concerned.
