Key words: Neuroptera, Myrmeleontidae, Gymnocnemia variegata, new record, Turkey INTRODUCTION The family Myrmeleontidae of order Neuroptera has about 2000 species worldwide. In Palaearctic region 213 and in Turkey 45 species have been found (Aspöck et al., 2001). The genus Gymnocnemia was described by Schneider (1845) and monotypic in the world. It is represented by only Gymnocnemia variegata (Schneider, 1845). This species which spreads throughout the Palaearctic region has never been recorded from Turkey until now. Specimens were identified by using; (Arý & Kýyak, 2000; Aspöck et al., 1980, 2001; Aspöck & Hölzel, 1996; Canbulat & Kýyak, 2002; Canbulat, 2002; Esben-Petersen, 1932; Gepp, 1974; Hölzel, 1972, 1983; Kacirek, 1998; McLachlan, 1898; Monserrat & Hölzel, 1987; Sengonca, 1979). The body picture (Fig. 1) and the world distribution of this species were given. The collecting locality is marked on the map of Turkey (Fig. 2). The specimen is deposited in the collection of the Zoological Museum of Gazi University (ZMGU), Ankara, Turkey. 18 CANBULAT, S., KIYAK, S. Figure 1. This study presenting the locality where Gymnocnemia variegata (Schneider, 1845) is found (z) A new record of antlions for the Turkish fauna 19 RESULTS Gymnocnemia variegata (Schneider, 1845) Material Examined: Turkey: Konya, Hadim, Gevne valley, between Çamiçi-Beyreli Village, o o 36 50’N/32 23’E, 1472 m, 30.VI.2001, 1 male. Gymnocnemia variegata (Schneider, 1845) is new record for the Myrmeleontidae fauna of Turkey. Distribution: Bulgaria, Algeria, France, Croatia, Spain, Israel, Switzerland, Italy, Malta, Slovenia, Syria, Tadzhikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Greece. DISCUSSION Gymnocnemia variegata (Schneider, 1845) is found in many parts of Europe and in the close countries to Turkey. So finding these species in Turkey is not surprising. In the present study, Gymnocnemia variegata (Schneider, 1845) has been examined at species and genus level and it is recorded new for the fauna of Myrmeleontidae in Turkey.
