Students must hold a first university degree with 180 credits in the European system, after at least three years of studies (Bachelor of Science level or equivalent). The master programme is fully recognized by the French Ministry of Higher Education and the network of contacts established by the researchers engaged in the programme guaranties international exposure to the students. The programme of study lasts two years giving a total of 120 credits. www.ec-nantes.fr/masters PROGRAMME The First Year COMPULSORY MODULES CENTRALE NANTES Close to Atlantic Ocean, in a highly advanced scientific and industrial environment (Airbus, Shipyards, etc.), Centrale Nantes, created in 1919, offers graduate engineering programs to high calibre French and international students. With over 1,650 graduate and post-graduate students 150 PhD students, 200 teaching and research staff, 38 partners countries, Centrale Nantes is one of the top Engineering Schools providing Human resources to the Industry worldwide. With a membership of 11,000 alumni, a national committee, 14 local groups and 4 committees, the Alumni association of Centrale Nantes aims at making personal and business contacts easier, creating a community between all Centrale engineers and furthering the development of their network. MASTERS Centrale Nantes offers the possibility to French and international students to achieve with a master degree specialised in various fields of engineering such as Computational Structural Mechanics, Design of Systems and Products, Metallic Assemblies and Complex Composites, Civil Engineering and Environment, Hydrodynamics, Energy and Propulsion, Automatic Control, Robotics, Signal and Image, Embedded Computer Science and Production Systems, Atmosphere, Water and Urban Environment. The career prospects for the graduates are very good as the whole program is designed to provide industry oriented training in scientific environment. Depending on the specialisation, graduates may join the industry or may like to pursue PhD programmes in different laboratories of Centrale Nantes or join other universities all over the world. HYDRODYNAMICS AND OCEAN ENGINEERING The aim of this program is to characterize free surface hydrodynamics and give students fundamental basis in terms of physical and modelling aspects. Typical problems of marine engineering such as ship resistance, seakeeping, ship behaviour in irregular seas, water waves and marine environment… are thus covered. Moreover courses on numerical methods dedicated to these problems are given associated with practical training on numerical softwares (based on boundary elements, finite differences or volumes, smooth particles hydrodynamics…). Students are also involved in lab sessions in the experimental facilities of the Fluid Mechanics. Laboratory of Centrale Nantes (towing tank, wave tank equipped with a multiflap wave generator… After their Master thesis, graduate students can prepare a PhD thesis, especially within the Hydrodynamics and Ocean Engineering group which is specialized in free surface flow modelling in the marine context, through experimental and numerical approaches: wave modelling, fast dynamics, performance of naval structures or marine renewable energy… The research programs of these PhD thesis are often defined in collaboration with industrial partners. Alternatively, students can also begin a career in various fields of industry: shipbuilding, sailing and leisure boats, offshore industry, coastal engineering, marine renewable energy… especially in research and development departments.
