Special focus is given to vocabulary as well as Earth’s water, weather, the solar system, rocks and minerals, plate tectonics, and the ocean’s topography. Objectives: The students will have an introduction to the Earth and its features, processes, and place in the universe. To support J.J. Daniell’s school goals there will be an increased focus in reading, writing, and math in all subject areas. A collaborative effort will be made to prepare all students to meet CRCT standards. 6th Grade A.C. They share and illustrate the effects students learn about in relationship to the various natural disasters. S6E5. Students will investigate the scientific view of how the earth’s surface is formed. d. Describe processes that change rocks and the surface of the earth. e. Recognize that lithospheric plates constantly move and cause major geological events on the earth’s surface. f. Explain the effects of physical processes (plate tectonics, erosion, deposition, volcanic eruption, gravity) on geological features including oceans (composition, currents, and tides) S6E4. Students will understand how the distribution of land and oceans affects climate and weather. b. Relate unequal heating of land and water surfaces to form large global wind systems and weather events such as tornados and thunderstorms. c. Relate how moisture evaporating from the oceans affects the weather patterns and weather events such as hurricanes. Because of the sensitive nature of the materials, and pursuant to Administrative Rule IJK (Library Media Programs and Supplementary Materials Selection), which can be downloaded at www.cobbk12.org, I am requesting that you provide your permission for your student to participate in using or viewing this material.
