SGS Inspection Services Nigeria presents paper on Oil Loss Control and Petroleum Product Testing (December 12, 2013) SGS Nigeria presented the paper Loss Control and Petroleum Product Testing at ‘Petroleum Product Measurement, Reporting and Loss Control’ a seminar organised by the pipelines and product marketing company (PPMC), a subsidiary of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the body responsible for sourcing and distribution of petroleum products in Nigeria, at the Four Point Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, in August. The seminar was attended by International oil traders, as well as local oil trading and marketing companies. SGS was represented by Mr. Charudatta Malusare (General Manager –Oil, Gas & Chemical Services) and Mr. George Nwakaihe (National Laboratories Manager). As the price of oil rises, it is increasingly important to measure oil quantities accurately and monitor variation in the quantity of petroleum products as they move through the supply chain. SGS’ presentation focused on the importance of providing accurate, reliable measurements of the oil quantities, voyage analysis and reconciliation calculations. This information can be used to improve loss control, to lodge claims where necessary and generally to improve the efficiency and accountability within your logistics chain. The presentation detailed that strict adherence to the technical standard is key, for the best laboratories. SGS testing laboratories participate in an international proficiency scheme for all products testing. These tests act as a performance indicator and help the company to maintain a consistently high level of quality and assurance.
