SGS Inspection Services Nigeria presents paper on Oil Loss Control and Petroleum Product Testing
(December 12, 2013) SGS Nigeria presented the paper Loss Control and Petroleum Product Testing at
‘Petroleum Product Measurement, Reporting and Loss Control’ a seminar organised by the pipelines and
product marketing company (PPMC), a subsidiary of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the body
responsible for sourcing and distribution of petroleum products in Nigeria, at the Four Point Sheraton Hotel,
Lagos, in August.
The seminar was attended by International oil traders, as well as local oil trading and marketing
companies.
SGS was represented by Mr. Charudatta Malusare (General Manager –Oil, Gas & Chemical Services) and Mr.
George Nwakaihe (National Laboratories Manager).
As the price of oil rises, it is increasingly important to measure oil quantities accurately and monitor variation in
the quantity of petroleum products as they move through the supply chain. SGS’ presentation focused on the
importance of providing accurate, reliable measurements of the oil quantities, voyage analysis and
reconciliation calculations. This information can be used to improve loss control, to lodge claims where
necessary and generally to improve the efficiency and accountability within your logistics chain.

chain.

Mr. George Nwakaihe (National Laboratories Manager) dealt with the importance of accuracy in petroleum
product testing. The presentation detailed that strict adherence to the technical standard is key, for the best
laboratories. SGS testing laboratories participate in an international proficiency scheme for all products testing.
These tests act as a performance indicator and help the company to maintain a consistently high level of
quality and assurance.
SGS’ laboratory in APAPA, Lagos is one of the country’s most reputable and audience feedback was indicative
that they will extend fullest support to initiatives including the quality control of all petroleum products as an
essential of basic risk management for producers, traders and distributors.
