What Lifelong Learning Centre Students say about LLC
“Retired life has been wonderful so far,
and the Lifelong Learning Centre has
played a role in making it so. I love the
overall experience I’ve had at the LLC,
and plan to continue to attend courses
there for many years to come.”
“I like science and math, so I take
those type of classes. I also take the
odd history class. I find that as I get
older and have lived recent history, it
is more interesting.”
George M.
Chris B.

How Rude! with Dr. Ron Martin, University of Regina Faculty of Education
Have you ever marveled at the behavior of others and thought, "How rude!" Further, have you
ever wondered what leads people to act in socially inconsiderate ways? If so, you're not alone!
Dr. Ron Martin (Faculty of Education, University of Regina) will be delivering an hour-long talk
about socially inconsiderate (RUDE!) behavior. In this presentation, plenty of colorful examples of
rude behavior will be described (behaviors that could be described as annoying, intrusive,
disgusting, hostile, insensitive, unbelievable, and even hilarious at times!). In addition, many
factors that potentially contribute to rude behavior will be examined. Input and feedback from
the audience is welcomed and strongly encouraged (as long as it's delivered politely!).

Philosophy Café on Ethics with Anne van Ransbeek, LLC Philosophy Instructor
Stoicism, which was founded in the 3rd century BC in Greece, is regarded as a way of life aiming
at individual peace of mind and collective concord. In this short introduction to Stoic ethics, we
find out about the role of rationality in achieving mental and social harmony. We are all invited
to discuss the Stoic attitude to the world, which advises against too much attachment, and the
Stoic recommendation to live justly, moderately and courageously.

ARGENTINA WINE APPRECIATION (95911) NEW
Argentina has been perfecting the art of making wine for 450 years, and has experienced a significant surge in
international popularity over the past ten years. As the fifth largest wine producer in the world, Argentina boasts
many attributes that make it an interesting wine case study—for example, the diversity of its growing regions, its
climate, the unique vine-growing opportunities, and the prestigious awards bestowed on its wines. The majority of
Argentina wines are from Bordeaux variety grapes, including Malbec. This smooth, deeply fruited, inky-black grape
has put Argentina on the world wine map—causing some critics to name it among the best in the world. This
course will provide you with a broad understanding of Argentina wines and the grapes they are made from. It will
also equip you with skills to speak about and enjoy Argentina wine with confidence! The cost of wine samples
and food are included in the course fee. Students will need a set of 6 ISO Standard Tasting Glasses which can be
purchased at the first class at a cost of $40 per set (cash only). If you already have a set of ISO Standard Tasting
Glasses, you can bring them to use in this course.

TAMING DEMOCRACY'S PERILS (97366)
The great moral question of politics is how can exercises of power be made subject to moral limits. Although the
idea that political powers can be curtailed through law predates the modern era of democracy (it was, for instance,
the idea that animated Magna Carta) it is liberal democracies that have so enthusiastically embraced the idea of
legal limits. But does law inflict its own damage on democratic states by robbing citizens of their ability to come to
the best resolution of many of society's deeply important issues? And is law's reputation and legitimacy degraded
through this "political" role?
