The Department is actively engaged in research. We have major projects from various funding agencies and the faculty members are visiting foreign Universities to update themselves. This results in imparting new innovations, recent discoveries in the basic and applied fields.

Biological Science

Detail five major Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Challenges (SWOC) of the department:

Strength

Singular distinction of offering M.Sc., M. Phil. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry,

Biotechnology, Botany, Zoology, Bioscience, Microbiology.

Faculty is specialized, trained and individually equipped with modern facilities in different fields of Biological Science.

We credit ourselves in availing the best international fellowships.

Department is striving to emerge as a Centre of Excellence in teaching and research in the state.

Our strength lies in encouraging the students to perennially inculcate the habit of research and exploration, to develop a scientific temperament and to remain updated with the new innovations happening in the field of bioscience.

Weakness

A few senior professors of the Department are on lien and some are holding additional administrative positions in the University which is adversely affecting the Department.

Improvement required in communication skills, interpersonal skills and e-reading

Opportunities habits of Students.

Decreasing number of students pursuing Bioscience.

Present University and State Govt. rules need to be in line with International practices.

Shrinking opportunities in the area of biological sciences.

Challenges

International and National collaborations will improve research standards and opportunities to students.

Research skills and aptitude of faculty and students will further improve the quality of teaching and research.

International fellowships of faculties will enhance the communication and research skills further.

Establishing an Educational Assessment and Guidance Clinic.

Spread the awareness amongst the student community, informing them about the wide scope of Bioscience and making them realize that it is a field with innumerable opportunities for an excellent career.

Biology as subject is attracting fewer students and the Department is working hard in this direction to meet the challenge.

There are many students coming from rural areas and are not aware of latest

 technological facilities available which can enhance their mode of studies and research in a substantial manner. It’s a challenge for the department to make efforts in this direction so that such students could be made aware of utilization of technology and computers to meet their educational requirements.

Motivation for science among students.

To transform the method of studies from question-answer/book based to more innovative, research and experimentation oriented methods to make subject learning an enjoying and dynamic experience.

Constantly monitor and regulate the practices, methodology of teaching, research skills as well as academic and non-academic curriculum to stay in consonance with national and international standards.
