Its our beliefs that make us different. We care for the environment, we believe in protecting it, we must do all we can to pass it on to future generations as a world they can live in. We don’t compromise, we believe our products should perform at all the functions they provide and excel in the extremes that life will throw at them, whether protecting you from Atlantic storms or from the unwanted attentions of a burglar. Quality is our goal, unlike other manufacturers who give you an energy efficient window that is second-rate because… • the steel reinforcement has been removed or • the aluminium spacer bar has been replaced with a sponge The following qualities are standard features of all our products and where they excel... •Energy Efficiency •Security •Durability •Weather Resistance •Great Looking 6 Grady Joinery receives the first Window Energy Performance Certificate from the NSAI for their 0.8 U-Value Window Pictured: John Judge - Senior Sales representative, Grady Joinery Arthur Grady - MD, Grady Joinery Maurice Buckley - DCEO, NSAI Duncan Stewart - Architect, TV Presenter, About the House, Eco Eye Michael Cullen - Senior Sales representative, Grady Joinery Kieran Grady - Director, Grady Joinery 7 Energy Efficiency without compromise 0.8 U-Value Window U-Values, Solar Heat Gain Coefficient, Air Leakage, Low-E, Low Iron etc. We won’t bore you with the science, we’ve done the homework. Our windows are independently tested by NSAI (National Standards Authority Ireland) under the Window Energy Performance (WEP) scheme. They have awarded Energy Certificates for all our Elegance ZE products. We don’t like to brag but we are proud we can offer you four different A-Rated windows. We are the first manufacturer in Ireland to have NSAI WEP certified A-Rated windows. NSAI insist that all windows certified under the WEP scheme carry their registration number, so don’t be deceived, look for the NSAI registration number. Our 0.8 U-Value window is not just an A-rated window - any window with an Energy Index of zero or above qualifies as an A-rated window - our 0.8 U-Value window exceeds this by far with an Energy Index of 23.34 (kWh/m2/year), that’s significantly better than an A and a massive energy saving for you! 8 We’re not bragging! 9 Security The key to feeling secure… • 100% Reinforcement - all our PVC products are reinforced with galvanised steel, it won’t rust and it will stay strong • S hoot bolts - our products are fitted with multi-point locking systems that incorporate Dead, Hook, Shoot bolts. When you lock your door or window these bolts are activated, keeping you and your home safe and secure • Internal beading - our products are glazed from the inside, a burglar will have to get in before they can get the glass out • E xtensive Testing - Not every admirer of your home has good intentions, so our products are tested continually to BSI standards. Our windows and doors are tested to breaking point to ensure they will endure what ever life throws at them. 10 •100% Galvanised Steel reinforcing •Dead, Hook, Shoot Bolts •Internally beaded •Cylinder Guards •Tested to BSI Standards Windows tested to: Enhanced Security - Windows • Manipulation (BS 7950) • Mechanical loading (BS 7950) • Manual check test (BS 7950) • Glazing removal (BS 7950) Doors tested to: Enhanced security - Doors • Manipulation (PAS 24:2009) • Mechanical Loading (PAS 24:2009) • Manual Check Test (PAS 24:2009) • Soft Body Impact (PAS 24:2009) • Hard Body Impact (PAS 24:2009) • Security Hardware and Cylinder Test (PAS 24:2009) • Cylinder Vulnerability (PAS 24:2009) • R esistance to Letter Plate Attack (PAS 24:2009) 11 Durability When you purchase your windows and doors you are making an investment in your home for your future. We want our products to be prepared to serve you well, that’s where we use our experience... • 100% welded Frames - by choice we don’t mechanically joint anything, joints will always be watertight. Using mechanical joints is the cheapest way to make a window as there is less material used and a lot less capital investment on machinery • Weather seals are inserted after welding - we don’t use co-extruded profiles, this means the weather seal doesn’t get spoilt in the corners at welding, it costs us more but we think it’s worth it • Window hinges, locks and restrictors are all stainless steel - in our climate, we’re sure you can see the benefit in that. We have put a lot of thought into our products, we’ve used the best materials, we have done all this to ensure you get the best and become another happy customer for years to come. •100% Welded Frames •Effective Weather Seals •Stainless Steel Hardware •Window Sash Hinges designed to carry 40kgs •Window, Door Hinges and Keeps are secured into galvanised steel •Only 100% virgin uPVC used to ensure consistent high quality and eliminate imperfections Tested to the following… • Operation and strength (PAS 23-1:1999) • Cycle operation (PAS 23-1:1999) • Operating forces (PAS 23-1:1999) • Slamming resistance (PAS 23-1:1999) • Closure against obstruction (PAS 23-1:1999) • Abusive forces on handles (PAS 23-1:1999) • Thermal distortion (PAS 23-1:1999, Annex D) • Resistance to artificial weathering • Colourfastness • Cross breaking strength 12 13 Weather resistance Whether your home is on the edge of the Atlantic or nestled in a town or city, our products are designed to withstand the heaviest showers and the most extreme weather. Most manufacturers remove stuff like steel reinforcing from their windows to reduce thermal transmittance and make their windows more thermal efficient. This weakens the window and limits the choice of colours available (darker colours will absorb more heat from the sun and therefore must be 100% reinforced). It also means hardware like hinges have nothing to grip to and are only screwed into the PVC, we don’t need to explain why this type of window won’t stand the test of time. We didn’t. Far from removing anything from our windows, we added to them. • We added insulation to the reinforcing chambers in the window, we combined steel and foam to produce a composite reinforcement, this fills the reinforcing chamber and thermally breaks the steel. • We added a third weather seal to our window sash to reduce air flow and convection. • We added foam insulation to the outer edge of the window to further prevent heat loss. • W e have removed the aluminium spacer bars from our glass units, but only to replace it with a better one. With a combination of polycarbonate and stainless steel, the composite spacer bar we use is extremely durable and thermal efficient. • On our Elegance ZE3 windows, we added a PVC Glazing insert, designed by ourselves. This piece of profile fills the cavity between the glass and the window profile and reduces convection from the inside to the outside. We’re happy with our work and even happier that NSAI (National Standard Authority Ireland) have awarded the Elegance ZE window an A-Rating for energy efficiency. 22 23 Our Glass… not just something to look through The fact that on average seventy percent of the surface area of your window is glass means it has an incredibly important role to play in the performance of your windows. Apart from just letting you see out, the glass in your windows acts as a barrier to the outside world. This barrier keeps heat on one side, cold on the other side and allows heat from the sun to pass into your home. Glass is not alone in doing this job, it is manufactured into insulated glazing units and it is these glazing units that act as this barrier. How well your glazing units do this job will determine how your windows perform. Glazing Units Double Glazed Low-E Double Glazed Low-E + Low Iron Triple Glazed Low-E Triple Glazed Low-E + Low Iron A glazing unit is made by sandwiching two or more sheets of glass with a spacer bar in between, seal it up with some sealant and fill the middle bit with gas. Sounds simple but in reality it’s a very complicated thing. You have many different types of glass, you have different types and widths of spacer bars, different types of sealant and different types of gas. It’s a combination of all these that will determine how good your glazing unit is. Thankfully you don’t need to worry about any of this because we’ve selected the best materials and manufacturing process to ensure you get the best glazing unit available. All our units are hermetically sealed. This means there is no gas movement in or out of the unit. We only use warm edge tubular spacer bars which are filled with desiccant immediately prior to assembly. This eliminates moisture inside the unit. Each glazing unit is assembled by application of two seals. The first is a hot melt seal which is excellent at retaining gas throughout the life of the unit and at holding the unit together while the second seal is applied and curing. Curing of the second seal takes approximately two hours. Other companies use an integrated desiccant/spacer bar with one hot melt seal. These units are cheaper and require less time to make and while they may perform well in terms of energy efficiency, they are not as durable and are more prone to breakdowns where the seal fails and moisture builds up inside the glazing unit causing condensation. We will not use or associate our name with such glazing units as in our experience they do not stand the test of time. We are so confident in the glazing units we manufacture, that we give you a ten year warranty against breakdown and condensation build up inside the unit. 24 25 Elegance ZE Door Range… don’t compromise We don’t believe in compromising on quality, we love our Elegance ZE doors and we think you will too. Our high performance composite GRP doors are attractive, natural looking, virtually maintenance free and extremely durable. Thanks to their construction of high impact GRP which is bonded to composite rails and filled with a thermal efficient foam core, they won’t warp, crack, dent or bow. What is a carbon footprint? A carbon footprint is “the total set of GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions caused directly and indirectly by an individual, organisation, event or product” (UK Carbon Trust 2008) . Ours In recent years we have strived to reduce our carbon footprint and have introduced many practices to enable us to do this, the phrase “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” is at the core of everything we do. We have reduced the amount of electricity, gas and diesel we use and have implemented an energy monitoring system to help us make further reductions. All our timber is harvested from managed forests and we only use sustainable raw material where possible. The glass we use is produced using 30% less energy because it is made from recycled glass. We break down and recycle all the components of your old windows when they are brought back to our factory, we also recycle all the timber, glass, aluminium, PVC and steel waste we produce from manufacturing. Yours By choosing energy efficient A-rated windows you will reduce your carbon footprint as your home will be easier to heat and therefore use less energy. Even better, your windows will draw carbon neutral and free solar energy into your home. By choosing Grady Joinery as your window supplier you will make a further contribution to reducing your carbon footprint and saving the planet because you will be purchasing a window that was manufactured with a lower carbon footprint. 48 Charlestown, Co.
