MULTI-STEP electronic ballasts
operate OCTRON T8 ECOLOGIC®
lamps at various power levels to
offer a range of high efficiency T8
lighting solutions. The system
includes the new SYLVANIA
MULTI-STEP ballasts that are
designed to be used with
SIMPLY5 lighting components.
MULTI-STEP ballasts are
specially designed to meet
energy codes such as California
Energy Commission’s Title 24
requirements for multi-level
lighting controls. The lamp and
ballast combination offers high
efficiency for T8 fixtures along
with seven lighting levels and all
the high performance features
that are standard on SYLVANIA
Professional Series ballasts.
This 2-lamp system when used
with OCTRON XPS® lamps, can
replace a traditional 3-lamp low
ballast factor T8 system
providing similar light output,
less energy usage at full power
and dramatic energy savings in
the dimmed mode.

T8 ballasts were developed in
partnership with lighting
industry experts to form an
integrated lighting system that
provides unprecedented
performance, flexibility and
ease of use. This breakthrough
technology, termed SIMPLY5,
delivers high-efficiency,
controllable lighting that is
simple to install and operate.
SIMPLY5 system components
are furnished with mated
connections for fast, errorfree installation and startup. Intuitive wall switches
smoothly direct this system
to any one of seven discrete
preset lighting levels, ranging
from 100 to 3%.
Future expansion is equally
simple. Just plug in desired
extensions of additional
fixtures and wall switches to
adapt to changes in your
environment.

SIMPLY5 system components are
perfectly matched to eliminate
any concerns with compatibility
or reliability. Gone are the days
of complex wiring and commissioning schemes that often
require specialized integrators
to configure and troubleshoot
devices from multiple suppliers.
The MULTI-STEP ballasts also
incorporate high-performance
features of Universal input
voltage and programmed rapid
start technology. Universal
(120/277V) voltage technology
provides operation at 120V or
277V, 50 or 60Hz, eliminating
“wrong voltage” wiring errors and
reducing the number of models
in inventory by half.
Programmed rapid start
technology optimizes lamp
starting conditions to provide
up to 100,000 switching cycles
before lamp replacement
becomes necessary. This
provides for full compatibility
with occupancy sensors and
building control systems.
