Here is the information that my grandfather wrote down and I gleened from my great-grandfather's obit: August Larson - Came from Denmark - Owned and operated a grocery store in Chicago, Ill, USA - Owned and operated a grocery store in Racine, Wi, USA - Buried in Racine Wisconsin USA Had 6 children: Albert Samuel Larson - Born: March 26, 1875 in Chicago, Ill - Died: March 27, 1931 from failed appendectomy operation. - Was a lawyer in Shawano, Wisconsin, USA. Ruben Larson - Born: in Denmark - Was living in either Chicago Ill or Oshkosh Wisconsin in 1931 when Albert http://boards.rootsweb.com/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=707&p=surnames.larson 10/19/2009 August Larson : Denmark > Illinois > Wisconsin - Larson - Family History & Genealogy Message Boar... Page 2 of 7 died. Louis Larson - Was living in Wausau Wisconsin in 1931. Edward Larson - Was a doctor in either Wheeling or Chicago Illinois Carl Larson - Was living in Madison Wisconsin in 1931. Agnes Larson - Was known to go by the name Peggy. - Was an RN living in Chicago Illinois in 1931. - Married to Thomas Bolz. I can not find an August Larson born in Denmark in the 1880 or 1920 census in Chicago, Ill. I also have too little to go on about the children to track them down in the 1920 or 1930 census since their names are so common. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. I then found them in the 1900 census and his name was Hans P. So, now I have a little more information about this family: Father: Hans Peter Larson Born: May 1846 in Denmark Died: between 1920 and 1930 in Racine Buried: According to my grandfather he is buried in Racine. Mother: Not sure. There are 3 different names on 3 different censuses but the woman is the same age, born in the same place, and has had the same number of children. Those names are: Sophia (1880), Mary (1900), or Henrietta (1910). She has died by 1920. Children: Ludolph (aka Louis) Larson Born: about 1873 in Denmark Appears in the 1920 census in Wausau, Wisconsin as a book keeper and is widowed at that time. I have yet to find him in any other censuses living with his wife. Albert Samuel Larson My great grandfather. Born: March 26, 1875 in Chicago, Ill but listed in the http://boards.rootsweb.com/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=707&p=surnames.larson 10/19/2009 August Larson : Denmark > Illinois > Wisconsin - Larson - Family History & Genealogy Message Boar... Page 3 of 7 1880 census as being born in Wisconsin. Died: March 25, 1931 in Shawano, Wisconsin from a failed appendectomy. He is buried in the cemetery in Shawano, Wi. Married Amelia Johnson who legally changed her name to Celia Johnson and was known as Cenie. Carl Larson Born: June 1877 in Wisconsin. Married: Anna I found him in the 1920 census with 7 children: Theodore, Olive, Alfred, Violet, Carl, Ned, and Paul. He appears in the 1910 and 1920 censuses in Racine, Wisconsin but his brother Albert's Obit says that he was living in Madison in 1931. I have yet to show that. Reuben Larson Born: September 13, 1879 in Wisconsin I got his birthday from the Wisconsin Birth Index and I found him in the 1930 census in Oak Lawn Village, Illinois near Chicago. He is a widower and working as a barber. I have yet to find him on any other censuses yet. Edward Larson Born: August 1881 in Wisconsin Was a doctor and started a hospital in Wheeling, Illinois in his house and I found him there in the 1930 census with his wife Olga. My grandmother says that Edward had a daughter who married a musician. Agnes Larson Born: October 1894 in Wisconsin Married: Clarence Thomas Bolz In the 1930 census they were living in Chicago, Illinois. My grandfather's notes say that Agnes was a Registered Nurse. At this point I am not looking at that many grandchildren of Hans Peter but I am still looking for information and other decendants or relatives of this family. Also, from all of the census information it looks like Hans Peter had a apartment or room that new Danish immigrants would stay in. If you know anyone that stayed in this room I would love to hear from them too. Thank you in advance. He married Wilhalmina Sophia Johnson 8 Oct 1888 in Joliet, Ill. My uncle died and while going through his stuff we came across this old Family Bible with this information in it. As far as we know (at this moment) we don't have Larson's in our line. Two of their children listed are Harry _____ Levi Larson, 4 May 1889 and Ernest Oliver Milton Larson, 2 Feb 1891. http://boards.rootsweb.com/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=707&p=surnames.larson 10/19/2009 August Larson : Denmark > Illinois > Wisconsin - Larson - Family History & Genealogy Message Boar... Do you know where in Shawano he lived before he passed away? I'm trying to nail down the builder of my home. A son from the second family who owned my house visted me this weekend- he's was born and grew up in it and is now 84 years old. He only remembered that it was a "Larson" who was an attorney. Any help appreciated!!! I have attached a picture of the house probably from the 1930's or 1940's. I also have some pictures of the inside as well. Albert died in 1931 from an appendectomy that became infected. His wife lived in the house until she died in December 1942. I would be interested to know if you live in their old house. I was by there in 2003, but didn't knock on the door. I keep intending to go back eventually. Lisa. Its just across and down the street from me. I had really thought that Albert had built my house. Although I'm back to square one searching, I did stop by the Shawano historical society. It wasn't open but there was a guy there taking out trash so I looked up Albert's obituary. I'm at 413 S Franklin, but the house numbers had changed in the 30-40's, and I believe Albert's must have been 403. Albert's house now has houses on either side of it that aren't much to talk about. Attached is what I found in the Larson family file. It is scanned exactly as it is in the archive- there are some missing lines. But I think the text is a really wonderful tribute. I also found some other documents and have attached those as well. Note that to the left it says "Anderson from Larson, 1920." This is why I was so convinced that the house was built by your family. Again, I met the son of A.O. Anderson- who also told me his dad purchased our house from a "Larson" who was an attorney and died unexpectedly. Maybe Larson built both my house and the one that you sent me a picture of? That would make sense per the obituary's mention of Albert Larson's home that he had built. I can't imagine the obit would have been mentioned a home at all if it hadn't been a recent event. Also attached is a picture of the front of my house from 2006- I figured the Halloween theme might be appropriate given the date! If you do have pics of the inside of the Larson home, I'd love to see them. Who knows- maybe they are actually from inside my house? I'd know for sure just looking! Thanks much!! Most are from the outside but there is one from the inside of a house. The first picture is the wedding photo of Albert and Celia Larson. I thought that you might like to know what they looked like. The second one is 3 of their children: John, Elsie, and James. The third picture is from the inside of the house and is all 4 children: James, Elsie, Alice, and John. Alice was hit by a car in 1921 on Main Street in Shawano and died. The fourth picture is the family in front of the house in 1942. John, his wife Mary, Celia, Elsie, Elsie's daughter Anne, and James. The fifth, sixth, and seventh pictures are also outside the house. One is Celia, the other 2 are John. Most of the pictures appear to be outside the house that I included earlier. What is interesting is that the number of the house appears to be 438 and not 416. 438 Franklin is also the address on Celia's obit as well. BTW, in Alice's obit from 1921 it states that she was taken to her home on Division Street. I'm not sure that the Larsons lived on Franklin Street in 1920. Lisa. His son James was also a district attorney. I will be interested to know what you research concludes about who built your house. Lisa.
