newandreliableprocessesthatallow
theintegrationofhundredsofmillions
oftransistorsontoasinglemicrochip.
Analoguedesignersarechallengedto
buildaccuratecircuitsfromclearly
nonidealtransistors.•Digitaldesigners
faceproblemswithregardtothe
design,layoutandtestingofhighly
complexcircuits.
Systemdesignersmustmeetthe
requirementsofapplication
environmentsthatareoften
multidisciplinary.
TheMSctrackinMicroelectronicsprovides
electricalengineerswiththehighly
specialisedknowledgeandexperienceto
design,fabricateandtestdevices,
circuitsandsystems.Thedepartmentis
internationallyrenownedforitsresearchon
smartsensors,microsystems,
semiconductorfabrication,solarcells,
signalprocessing,RFtransceiversandRF
components.ThisMScprogrammein
Microelectronicsprovidesyouwiththe
opportunitytotransformyourownideas
fromtheorytoapplicationinthe
department’sowncleanroomand,quite
often,givesyouaplatformtopresentyour
workatinternationalconferences.The
rangeoffacilitiesalsoencouragesfruitful
discussionsbetweendesignorientedand
technology-orientedstudents.
TheMasterofScienceprogrammein
ElectricalEngineeringatTUDelftoffersthe
trackMicroelectronics.Thistrackis
designedforstudentswithaBachelor’s
degreeinElectricalEngineering.The
programme,coverstheentirespectrumof
microelectronics,rangingfromtechnology
anddevicestoanalogueanddigitalcircuits,
sensors,systemsandmicrosystems.

Microsystems&Technologyfocusses
onallaspectsofintegratedmicrosystem
development.Itcomprisesdesignand
technologyforsensors,actuators,MEMS
componentsandaddressesdeviceand
systemintegrationandapplication
specificpackaging.
RFCircuitDesignpreparesyouto
becomeaskilledRFdesigner.Focusis
placedontheanalogue,microwave,
digitalandmixed-signaltechniquesthat
characterizetheRF/wirelesssystemsof
todayandtomorrow.
AnalogCircuitDesignfocusesonthe
designofprecisionanalogandmixed
signalcircuits.Itconcentratesonlowpower,lowvoltageamplifierandAD
converterdesignforsensorinterface
electronics.
BiomedicalElectronicsconcentrates
onthedesignanddevelopmentof
circuitsand(micro-)systemsfor
biomedicalapplications.
DigitalSystemscoverstheoryand
designmethodologiesfordigitalcircuits
andsystems,withapplicationareasin
wirelesscommunication,biomedical
imaging,quantumcomputingand3DIC
design.
IamamasterstudentinElectrical
Engineeringwitharesearchinterestin
electro-mechanicsandNanoelectronics
devices,whichdealswiththedesign,
fabricationandcharacterizationof
electroniccircuits/systemsatmicroor
nanoscale.Thecourses,assignmentsand
projectdeadlinesmaketheoverallscenario
ofthemasterMicroelectronicsabit
challenging.Withtime,thisaccumulatesto
giveyoutheconfidence,knowledgeand
experiencenecessarytocontinue
researchinginaresearchareayoumight

interestsincludeheterogeneous,multilevelandmulti-functionalmicro/
nanoelectronics,systemintegrationand
reliability.ThefieldofMSI&Ris
interesting,becauseofitseconomicand
socialimportanceandthescientific
challengesthatitpresents.Through
technology,wecreatehigh-value,
industrialisedandreliablesmart
systems,includingwafer,packagingand
assemblyprocesses.Intermsofscience,
wedevelopcross-disciplinaryknowledge
aimedatexplainingandpredictingthe
behaviourofmicro/nanoelectronics
systems,includingmaterialscience,
electronicengineeringandmechanics.
TakingMSI&Rasourcorevaluetree,our
multi-levelstudentsworkinvarious
branches,tailoredtotheirpersonal
interests.Someworkwithnovel3Dinterconnectingtechnology(e.g.nanoCuandTxVinterconnections),whilst

integrationofLEDdeviceswithsensors
