SILVER TAPS CEREMONY HOMECOMING 2015
1840: Corps formation, Hagerman. MG G, Color Guard, Horse and
handler in N. Sally Port.
Candle holders in place on 2nd stoop, HQ/Echo. One cadet on third
stoop with special candle.
3 buglers in place.
1900: RC calls Corps to ATTENTION AND PRESENT ARMS. MG
G, Color Guard, Horse and handler begin walk from north-to-south.
Center walk cleared as when Corps forms for parade.
Narrator reads the following paragraph as element departs N Sally
Port:
The practice of leading a caparisoned horse is
reserved for extraordinary individuals. The Cap Horse
is led by the Cap Walker, and boots of the deceased are
placed in the stirrups backwards. The backwards boots
are intended to symbolize the rider looking back
towards the living one last time before riding into the
beyond.

(Stop Bagpipe Recording)
(Pause for 20 seconds)
If you will please look directly over the Sally Port as we light
the last candle. This special candle will burn until taps at
2200 as a symbol of support for our alumni serving in
harm’s way around the world.
1) At the end of the script “FOREVER YOUNG” will be read and the Corps of Cadets
will go to PRESENT ARMS.
2) The first Note of Silver Taps will begin to play.
3) The Corps of Cadets will hold their hand salute until the completion of Silver Taps.
4) The Corps of Cadets will go to ORDER ARMS after the last note of Silver Taps is
Played.
(Pause for 10 seconds)
During the playing of taps the following protocol is
appropriate, for all retired military and active military to
execute the hand salute, all others stand erect and men
should remove their hats.
(Cadets to begin extinguishing candles with the first note of
Taps)
A quote from the 1933 Bronco about a cadet, George O.
Speer 1933 JC, who was killed in a Polo Game is
appropriate at this ceremony.
BUT IF THEY ARE GONE FROM OUR RANKS,
WE KEEP THEM ON OUR ROSTER,
AS VALUES ONCE INTIMATELY KNOWN
AND AVAILABLE IN OUR RECOLLECTIONS
AND IN OUR HEARTS. THEY WILL REMAIN
FOREVER YOUNG. (“ PRESENT ARMS”, TAPS begins…)
(TAPS ends, last candle holder extinguishes last candle, RC Commands
ORDER ARMS. MG G, Color Guard, Horse and handler pass through
Main Sally Port into Bronco Plaza without any commands.
Narrator reads:
This concludes our ceremony honoring our fallen comrades.
RC Commands releases the Corps.
