You've chosen NitroSell eCommerce (NSc), the leading integrated WebStore solution for Microsoft's Retail Management System (RMS). Product Attribute Manager (PAM) is one of the core components of NSc. PAM makes item maintenance streamlined and efficient, enabling you to completely customize your products for your WebStore. Getting Started Before using NSc PAM, you'll need to configure the database. You should have completed this step during installation process. If not, you'll need to do it when PAM first starts. To launch NSc PAM, go to the Windows Start menu. From the NitroSell program group, select NSc PAM: ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 1 Configuring the Database Connection NitroSell eCommerce connects directly to the RMS database. To configure this connection, from the Options menu of NSc PAM, select Configure Database: To configure the database connection: 1. Under Available Servers, select the computer that contains the database. Alternatively, enter its host name or IP address: 2. Click Next. 3. If the database is on the computer you're using, select I will authenticate using Windows Authentication. Otherwise, select I will authenticate using SQL Server authentication and enter your RMS database password: ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 3 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) 4. Click Next to connect to the computer and display a list of databases available on it. Under Available databases, select the one you wish to use: 4 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Configuring the Database 5. Click Next to test your settings. If the configuration was successful, you'll see the following: 6. Click Finish to save your settings and exit the wizard. ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 5 Overview Use NSc PAM to manage your products for both online and in-store selling. By managing them from a single location, inefficient dual maintenance processes are eliminated. This section provides an overview of NSc PAM. The following topics are available: • The Main Window • Sorting • Searching • Filtering • The Status Bar The Main Window In PAM, items are presented in a spreadsheet view, which is designed to make editing as streamlined as possible: • Each row shows an item in RMS. • Columns show attributes of items. • The attributes ItemLookupCode, Description, Department Name, and Category Name are shown by default. ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 7 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) • The display of other attributes can be controlled by clicking Attribute Visibility and selecting the appropriate attribute checkboxes. Sorting You can sort the displayed products by selecting column headers. To sort: 8 • Click a header once to sort in ascending order: • Or twice to sort in descending order: ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Overview Searching Use search to find items using the selected column. To search: 1. Select the column you want to search: 2. The label next to the Search text box changes to reflect the name of the selected column. 3. Type the text that you want to search for, then press Enter. 4. PAM automatically highlights the first match for that text: ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 9 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) Filtering Use filtering to manage distinct groups of items. With a filter enabled, only the products that match the criteria specified in that filter are shown. By default, inactive items are not shown. In addition, filters always default to the value Inactive=false. Once the Enable Filter button is clicked and a filter is configured, this button changes to Modify Filter. Click Modify Filter to change the current filter. Click Remove Filter to remove the current filter. To enable a filter: 1. Click the Enable Filter button. 2. The Filter window is displayed: 3. Select the Field (attribute) that you want to use to filter products, in this case, Description: 10 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Overview 4. Select the Operator to use. The operator specifies how to filter with the selected Field. To compare text, select the Like operator. This is appropriate in this case because Description is a text field. ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 11 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) 5. Enter the Filter value to be compared with the field: 6. The % symbol at the end of the Filter value means that any text beginning with Pajama will match. 7. Click Add to add the newly entered filter to the Selected Filters list: 8. Selected Filters lists all the filters currently in use. 12 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Overview 9. Click OK to apply the filter. 10. As you can see, only items with Descriptions beginning with Pajama are shown: 11. To remove filters in the Selected Filters list, select a filter, then click the Remove button. To remove all filters, click Remove All. The Status Bar The status bar at the bottom of the PAM window shows miscellaneous information about PAM: • The number of rows (items) visible: • Information about the selected item: • The current user Profile, which is a saved snapshot of a set of item attributes. To save a profile or to switch between profiles, select Profiles from the PAM menu. • The indices (coordinates) of the selected row and column: ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 13 Attributes NSc PAM enables you to edit both built-in RMS attributes and additional, WebStore-specific attributes. Using these additional attributes, you can associate extra information with your products, such as brand, Web description, and Web sale price, which gives you the flexibility you need to sell online. This section teaches you how to work with attributes. The following topics are available: • Attribute Visibility • The PAM Attribute List • Default PAM Attributes • Adding New Attributes • Removing Attributes Attribute Visibility Attributes of your products are shown in columns. The attributes ItemLookupCode, Description, Department Name, and Category Name are shown by default. To show or hide attributes: 1. Click the Attribute Visibility button: 2. The Attribute Visibility window is displayed: ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 15 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) 3. Both RMS attributes and PAM attributes are displayed. To show an attribute, select the checkbox next to it: 4. Click OK. The spreadsheet view is updated: 16 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Attributes 5. As you can see, new columns have been added for each attribute that was selected to be made visible. The PAM Attribute List The additional attributes available in NSc PAM can be configured from the Attributes menu. These attributes are specific to your WebStore and are not available or editable in RMS. However, they are stored in your RMS database, enabling them to be backed up and kept in sync with RMS. To view the list of attributes: 1. From the Attributes menu, select NSc PAM Attribute List: 2. The Attribute List window is displayed: ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 17 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) 3. The list shows the name of each attribute and its type. Attributes prefixed with "PAM_" are built-in to PAM. Default PAM Attributes Following are the PAM attributes that are available by default in the PAM Attribute Visibility list. The attribute names preceded by PAM_ are WebStore-only attributes. The values for the remaining attributes are initially populated from your RMS database. All these values can be updated quickly (and in a bulk fashion) using PAM. To commit any updates to RMS fields performed using PAM back to the RMS database, click Commit Changes. Re-synchronize your WebStore to see the effects of any changes there. Attribute Name Type Description BinLocation String The location in the brick-and-mortar store/warehouse where the item is kept. Cost Float The cost for the store to purchase one of the particular item. DoNotOrder Boolean (Checkbox true/false) If set to true, a purchase order cannot be placed for the item. InActive Boolean If set to true, the item is disregarded (and cannot be purchased). PAM_Brand String To assign items to a brand (such as "Schwinn" or "Acme"), for the appropriate items, populate the PAM_Brand attribute with a value (such as Schwinn). Then, when you select the brand from the Shop By Brand pull-down on your WebStore, the associated items are displayed. 18 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Attributes PAM_Keywords String This field enables you to specify extra strings to improve your customers' search results. This field, which is not displayed on your WebStore, may help your customers locate certain products, even if the string is not actually displayed on your WebStore or is a common alternate term or misspelling. For example, if you add the keyword "bike" to your bicycle-related items, when a customer searches for this string, he will receive appropriate results (even though the word "bike" does not actually appear on your WebStore). Similarly, adding the alternate spelling "pyjama" to PAM_Keywords for your pajama items will provide suitable search results. Note that individual keywords should be delimited by a space and that there is a 250-character limit in this field. PAM_LeadTime String An estimate of the arrival of the item if it is out of stock. PAM_NewProduct Boolean To add items to your WebStore's New Products panel, set this attribute to true. PAM_Priority Integer If a WebStore panel (for example, Special Offers, New Product, and so on) has more products than can be displayed all at once, the subset selected for display is random. This randomness is used to keep the WebStore looking fresh and interesting during successive customer visits. If you want particular products to be displayed in such panels more often than others, you can assign them a higher priority (that is, a higher number). For maximum flexibility, there is no defined number range enforced. Most users employ a range of 1 to 10. PAM_Promotion Boolean To add items to your WebStore's Pre Order panel, set this attribute to true. PAM_Rating Integer An item's "satisfaction" rating, signified on the WebStore by the number of stars associated with it (ranging from one to five stars). PAM_ReleaseDate Date The date when the item will be available for purchase on the WebStore. ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 19 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) PAM_SpecialOffer Boolean To add items to your WebStore's Special Offers panel, set this attribute to true. PAM_SubCategory String Third-level navigation is defined by setting this attribute. For each item that you want to place in the same category, you need to enter the same text into this attribute. Items with the same PAM_SubCategory text will be grouped together. PAM_Theme String To assign related items to the same theme (such as "School", "College", "Indoors", or "Outdoors"), for the appropriate items, populate this item with a value (such as School). Then, when this theme is selected from the Shop By Type pull-down on your WebStore, the associated items are displayed. PAM_WebPrice Float The "regular" price of the item on your WebStore. PAM_WebSalePrice Float The "sale" price of the item on your WebStore. PAMImageCount Integer As of v2.0.0.18, the product automatically detects the additional product images that are available, so you no longer need to use the PAMImageCount field. If you like, you can delete this attribute from the PAM and remove the field mapping for it. PictureName String When you specify a product image using this attribute, PAM checks if the image resides in the path of the current Pictures directory, as defined in RMS. If it does, the WebStore uses that image. If the image does NOT reside in that path, the image is copied there from the source location and renamed itemlookupcode.jpg. Price Float Account-type pricing depends on the RMS customer options and the price level that each customer is on, either Standard Price, Price Level A, Price Level B, or Price Level C. These can be easily edited using PAM, using the attributes Price, PriceA, PriceB, and PriceC. For example, you can use the Apply Formula option if you wish to apply a percentage price drop across a certain number of items. PriceA Float See Price. 20 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Attributes PriceB Float See Price. PriceC Float See Price. ReorderPoint Integer The minimum number the item can fall to before you should issue a purchase order. RestockLevel Integer The minimum quantity you would like to have in stock when you order the item. RMS Store Operations uses this information to compute the quantity to be ordered when it generates purchase orders for the item. For example, if the quantity on hand is 12, the reorder point is 15, and the restock level is 20. When Store Operations generates a purchase order for this item, it will place a reorder quantity of 8 for this item. SalePrice Float In order to activate an RMS sales price, select the option This item is on sale, which is found in RMS Store Operations Manager > Database > Items > Properties > Pricing. The SalePrice attribute can then be used to set the sale price to be displayed on your WebStore. SubDescription1 String Additional item information. SubDescription2 String Additional item information. SubDescription3 String Additional item information. WebDescription String Using a SQL CASE statement, you can map the product_name field so that it takes from a WebDescription PAM field only if the field has data in it, otherwise it will use the standard RMS item description field data. The result of this simple mapping change will enable you to override the RMS item description by specifying a longer (that is, not limited to 30 characters) “Web description” using PAM. To implement this type of configuration, in NSc Sync Configuration > Field Mappings > Item, enter the following code in the Field Source for the product_name field: CASE WHEN LEN(WebDescription) = 0 THEN Item.Description ELSE WebDescription END Boolean WebItem ©2007 In RMS, if you select the field Item is available on the website (using RMS Store Operations Manager > Integrated eCommerce 21 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) Database > Items > Properties > Options), this item is made available for sales and transactions on your WebStore. Float Weight The weight of the item. If you use automated shipping, Store Operations uses the amount entered in this field to help calculate the shipping charge. Adding New Attributes You can add new attributes, in addition to those installed with NSc PAM, to further customize your WebStore. To add a new attribute: 1. From the Attributes menu, select NSc PAM Attribute List. 2. Click Add Attribute: 3. In the Add Attribute window, enter the Name of the new attribute: 4. Then set its type: 22 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Attributes The type can be one of five values: Checkbox is used for options that can be true or false; String is for text; Integer is for non-decimal numbers (such as stock quantities); Date Field is for dates (such as product release dates); Float Field is for decimal numbers (such as prices). 5. Click OK to add the attribute: 6. To see the attribute in the spreadsheet view, make it visible by selecting its checkbox in the Attribute Visibility dialog box: ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 23 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) 7. The attribute is now visible and editable in PAM. To make new attributes appear in your WebStore, you need to add appropriate field mappings. Refer to the NSc Sync documentation for further information. Removing Attributes To remove an attribute: 1. From the Attributes menu, select NSc PAM Attribute List. 2. Select the attribute you wish to remove: 3. Click the Remove Attribute button: 24 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Attributes 4. Click Yes to confirm the deletion. 5. The deleted attribute is automatically removed from the spreadsheet view. ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 25 Editing NSc PAM was designed with one goal in mind: fast, intuitive WebStore customization. The editing system is its most powerful feature; with just a few clicks, thousands of items can be changed simultaneously. Using PAM, you can dramatically transform your WebStore in minutes. The following topics are available: • Basic Editing o Checkboxes o Strings, Integers, and Floats o Dates • Context Menu Options • Applying Formulas • Using String Functions • Managing PickLists • Committing Changes Basic Editing NSc PAM was designed with one goal in mind: fast, intuitive WebStore customization. The editing system is its most powerful feature; with just a few clicks, thousands of items can be changed simultaneously. Using PAM, you can dramatically transform your WebStore in minutes. Product attributes are one of five types: Checkbox (true or false), String (text), Integer (number), Date Field (date) and Float Field (decimal). To edit a Checkbox attribute: 1. Select it (by clicking it or pressing the space bar): ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 27 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) 2. Choose the value from the drop-down menu: To edit a String, Integer, or Float Field attribute: 1. Select it (by clicking it or pressing the space bar): 2. And type the value: To edit a Date Field attribute: 1. Select it (by clicking it or pressing the space bar): 28 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Editing 2. Clicking once edits the selected part of the date (day, month, or year). Type to replace that part: 3. Use the left- and right-arrow keys to move between parts: 4. You can also double-click the attribute, enabling you to type over the entire value. This is indicated by a black underline: ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 29 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) 5. Alternatively, you can choose the date from the drop-down menu: Context Menu Options Right-click an attribute to see the context menu. The options that are available vary based on the attribute you select: • The Apply Formula option is available only for the Integer and Float Field attributes. • The String Functions option is available only for String attributes. • Neither the Apply Formula or String Functions option is available for the Checkbox and Date Field attributes. Following are the context menu options: • 30 Copy (keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+C): Copies the contents of the selected attribute to the clipboard. ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Editing • Paste (keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+V): Pastes the contents of the clipboard to the selected attribute. • Apply Formula (keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+A): Applies a formula to the selected Integer or Float Field attribute. See “Applying Formulas” for more information. ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 31 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) 32 • String Functions: Applies a function to the selected String attribute. See “Using String Functions” for more information. • Cancel Current Row Changes (keyboard shortcut: F12): Rolls back the changes you've made to this row since the last Commit Changes operation. ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Editing • Paste to all rows (keyboard shortcut: F2): This is a powerful feature that pastes the contents of the clipboard to the selected attribute for all products shown. For instance, if you right-click a product's Price, select Copy, then select Paste to all rows, all products are set to the same price. This is particularly efficient, for instance, when setting WebItem to True for multiple products (that is, putting multiple products on the WebStore), or putting items on Special Offer, and so on. When you select Paste to all rows, you are asked to confirm: ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 33 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) If you click Yes, a progress window is displayed while all items are processed: And you will receive confirmation when it completes: • 34 Paste for... (keyboard shortcut: F3): ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Editing Paste for... is the same as Paste to all rows, except that you're prompted to enter the number of rows to paste for: For example, if you enter 6, the clipboard value is pasted into the next six rows for this attribute. • Move Forward: With Move Forward enabled, after selecting Paste or a Paste for, PAM will advance to the next cell. If it's disabled, it will return to the previous cell. ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 35 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) Applying Formulas Formulas enable you to set the values for the current column based on the values in another column. To apply a formula: 1. Right-click the column you wish to modify, then select Apply Formula: 36 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Editing 2. The Apply Formula window is displayed: 3. Formulas are applied in the form: Base (Operator) Value source = Attribute Value. For example, PAM_WebPrice + Price = PAM_WebPrice means that PAM_WebPrice is equal to PAM_WebPrice plus Price, so for all items, Price will be added to PAM_WebPrice. 4. Select the Operator: 5. Choose the Value source by either entering a fixed value or selecting another field: ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 37 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) 6. The Direction to apply option dictates how cells above and below this cell are changed. Everywhere applies to all cells in this column. Forward applies only to cells below this one. Backward applies only to cells above this one. 7. Click Apply to use the formula. Using String Functions There are four String Functions in NSc PAM. These functions enable you to assign values to attributes, insert text values before and after attributes, and replace text values within attributes. To assign values to attributes: 1. Right-click the attribute, select String Functions, then select Assign Values (or press F10): 38 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Editing 2. The Assign Values window is displayed: 3. You can assign a value From another Field or by specifying text (From a Text String). Select the option you require: ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 39 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) 4. Select the direction. As with formulas, Forward applies the value to the items below and Backward applies the value to the items above. Both means to apply the value to all items. 5. Click Process to complete the changes. To Insert Text Before: 1. Right-click the attribute, select String Functions, then select Insert Text Before (or press F8): 2. The Insert Text Before window is displayed: 40 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Editing 3. You can insert the value From another Field or by specifying text (From a Text String). Select the option you require: 4. Select the direction to apply it in (or select Both to apply it to all items). 5. Click Process to complete the changes. To Insert Text After an attribute, follow the same procedure as with Insert Text Before, selecting the appropriate function (or press F9): ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 41 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) To Replace Text: 1. Right-click the attribute, select String Functions, then select Replace Text (or press Ctrl+R): 2. The Replace Text window is displayed: 42 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Editing 3. Enter the Text to find. 4. Enter the text to Replace with. 5. If you select Case sensitive, the text in Text to find will be replaced only if the letters in the attribute are all the same case. For example, if the attribute's value were "pajama -", it would not match because the "p" is in lower case. 6. As before, select the Direction to apply the String Function. 7. Click Replace to process the text replacement. Managing PickLists PickLists enable you to make lists of possible values to use with a specified attribute. For example, you can make a PickList of text values; these values are displayed as a drop-down list when editing the attribute. To add a PickList: 1. From the Items menu, select Manage Picklists: 2. The PickList Management window is displayed: ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 43 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) 3. Select the Field for which you want to make a PickList: 4. Click Add New, then enter a PickList value: 44 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Editing 5. Click OK. The new value is populated into the PickList for the selected field: 6. Add additional values as desired by clicking Add New. 7. Click Close when you're finished. 8. Click Yes to confirm that you wish to save the changes: ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 45 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) 9. The PickList automatically becomes available when you edit the field: 10. You can also ignore the PickList options by entering text manually. To remove a PickList: 1. Open the PickList Management window and select the field from which to remove the PickList: 46 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Editing 2. Select the checkboxes next to the values you want to remove or, to remove all the values, right-click and select Select All: 3. If you click Delete Selected, the selected values are removed. 4. Click Close, then click Yes to confirm the changes: Committing Changes To maintain the integrity of your RMS database, you must commit all changes before they are permanently saved. To commit changes: 1. Click the Commit Changes button: ©2007 Integrated eCommerce 47 NitroSell eCommerce (NSc) Product Attribute Manager (PAM) 2. You are asked to commit changes if you change the PAM configuration, exit PAM, or attempt a mass update: 3. It is recommended that you always click Yes to commit your changes (unless you've made an error). 4. You should receive notification of a successful update: 5. You can now safely exit NSc PAM. If you haven't made any changes, the Commit Changes button will appear grayed out. 48 ©2007 Integrated eCommerce Advanced Options This section includes the following topics: • Populating WebStore Panels • Generating RMS Reports from PAM • Setting Up Categories / Third-Level Navigation • Defining Product Ratings • Setting Product Lead Time Populating WebStore Panels To add items to WebStore panels (such as New Products, Special Offers, and Pre Order), for the appropriate items, set the following attributes in PAM as true: • PAM_SpecialOffer (for the Special Offers panel) • PAM_NewProduct (for the New Products panel) • PAM_Promotion (for the Pre Order panel).
