Application Support Guide (Student)
Purpose of document
This document provides an overview of the steps for using the Advanced Standing student
application to submit and manage an individual’s Advanced Standing application at the University of
Melbourne.

Create an Advanced Standing application
1. Open a web browser and navigate to the Advanced Standing website:
https://advancedstanding.app.unimelb.edu.au/apex/f?p=ADVS
2. Log in using your student username and password.
The Eligibility Assessment screen will display your current student and course details as recorded
by the University.

3. Select the Basis of Credit on which you are applying for Advanced Standing.
If selecting Prior Study, please also indicate whether the study was at the University of
Melbourne or another institution.
4. Select the course you wish to apply the Advance Standing towards and click Next.
Important: you must complete a separate application for each course for which you wish to
apply for Advanced Standing.
Note: If you have not completed all mandatory fields (as indicated by a red *) you will receive an
error message why you try and progress to the next screen.

Enter application details
Note: the sections that display and the information required on the Application Details screen are
dependent on the Basis of Credit selected above.
When providing supporting documentation, please ensure the documents submitted are in an
acceptable format: DOC, DOCX, JPEG, JPG, PDF, RTF and TXT.
Based on prior education - Previous Study at the University of Melbourne
1. Select the relevant course and subject from the drop-down lists.
This list contains the courses and subjects you have previously been enrolled in at the University.
2. Enter the UOM subject code.
3. Click the Save UoM Subject button.
4. Repeat the above steps for all subjects you wish to apply for Advanced Standing.
The subjects will display in a list in the Saved Previous Study section below the entry fields.

Based on prior education - Previous Study at Other Institutions
1. Enter the course details and indicated the course status (complete or incomplete) using the
drop-down list.
2. Click the Choose file button to locate and attach your supporting documentation (for example:
transcript indicating you were enrolled in the course and your status).
3. Click the Save Course button.
This will make the course available in the Course drop-down list in the Subjects Undertaken at
Other Institutions section below.
4. Scroll to the Subjects Undertaken at Other Institutions section.
5. Select the appropriate course from the drop-down list.
6. Enter the subject details (including code, name, year level and year completed).

7. Provide supporting information about the subject for which you are applying for Advanced
Standing.
Support information should include an outline of the subject and content and can be entered as
either a weblink or an attached document.
8. Click the Save Subject button.
9. Repeat the above steps for all subjects you wish to add to your Advanced Standing application.
The subjects will display in a list in the Saved Previous Study section below the entry fields.
Based on prior education - Additional supporting documents
1. Select the course to which the documents apply from the drop-down list.
2. Click the Choose file button to locate and attach your supporting documentation.
3. Click the Save Document button.

Based on work experience - Previous Work Details
1. Enter the details of your professional experience (including, organisation, job title and
description as well as years worked).
2. Click the Choose file button to locate and attach your supporting documentation (for example,
professional reference from employer).
3. Click the Save Work Details button to add the information to the Saved Work Experience table.
Based on work experience - Additional supporting documents
1. Select the work experience to which the documents apply from the drop-down list.
2. Click the Choose file button to locate and attach your supporting documentation.
3. Click the Save Document button.

Confirm and submit application details
1. Once all your application details are complete, click the Confirm button to progress to the
Confirmation screen.
2. Review the information you have entered and ensure it is accurate and complete.
3. Click the Back button to return to the application details, if required.
Important: once you submit your application details, you will not be able to make any changes
or remove any supporting documentation.
4. If all details are accurate and complete, tick the confirmation box to accept the declaration.
5. Click the Submit button to submit your application.
View details of submitted applications
1. Click Submitted Applications in the menubar located on the top right of the screen.
2. Locate the application you wish to view and click the application ID button (in the View column).
