FOCUS
AnnualReport
A theme this year in Circle District has been to focus on our stars, our students, our
staff and our patrons. Throughout this Annual Report you will read the names of
many of our stars. Here are just some for which we are most proud:
• Our kindergarten students extended their skills in reading and math through the
district’s All Day Kindergarten program. The teachers reported that higher
numbers than ever were reading by Christmas! This was the first year for the
Circle District to offer All Day Kindergarten.
• Our patrons went to the polls in November and passed an $18.9 million bond
issue to provide improved facilities throughout our district for our students. All
projects have moved into the design development phase and bids will be taken
for the following in August:
New addition to CMS
Expanded parking at BGS and OHS
Remodeling of TIS
New baseball/softball complex at CHS
• Our Board of Education approved a finance plan from Capital Outlay funds to
provide a new multipurpose synthetic turf field for our soccer, football, PE, band
and youth sport programs. This solution will provide a home soccer field without
building a new competition field for this sport while lowering the district’s
maintenance expenses.
• The new, expanded and/or remodeled areas are for our future stars. We
sincerely thank all who have made these improvements possible for our students.
• All Circle District schools received full North Central Accreditation (NCA)
earning the maximum number of points for the documentation and presentations
at their accreditation review.
• One hundred and twenty-one seniors graduated from Circle High School on
May 20th. As a service project these students raised more than $1500 for students
in Greensburg, Kansas. Miss Kansas, Michelle Walthers (Circle High School
graduate in 2004) presented the graduation message.
On the following pages are more many team and individual stars. Some to note:
• Our 8th grade Girls Basketball Team went undefeated for this year playing in the
Walnut Valley Middle School League.
• Fourteen Circle High students qualified, competed and earned sixteen I ratings at
the State Forensics Competition.
• The Circle High School Engineering Team placed 1st in the State SkillsUSA
Competition and will compete at Nationals in Kansas City in late June.
• Towanda Primary Teacher Amy Stull received the Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year
Award along with $1000 for her school.
• Four Circle District bus drivers Kim Swinson, Heather Tucker, Ginger
Wieckhorst, Juanita Freed qualified for the State Bus Road-e-o Competition in
June in Salina.
• Circle Middle School Science Olympiad Team received 17 medals in regional
competition qualifying them to compete at the State Science Olympiad where
they received seven medals.
This is just a short list of the many, many achievements of our students, staff
and patrons of Circle USD 375. Each and every day our teachers and staff are
discovering and “polishing” stars in each of our students. Circle District
continues to be A Great Place to Learn and – A Great Place to Work.

Research shows that the best predictor of students’ success in business is their involvement in
extracurricular activities. Through sports, clubs, music, etc. students learn team work, group problem
solving and decision making, as well as develop their own individual skills and talents. Listed below
are students who excelled in their academics and activities during the 2006-2007 school year. Circle
District also recognizes outstanding accomplishments of students in each issue of the FOCUS.

another year of support for staff
and students. Over the summer,
the council oversaw the installation
of phase one of our new
playground equipment. They
helped support the Back to School
Parent Meetings by serving supper
to the parents, staff and students.
The council also continued to sell
school spirit shirts.
Financial support was provided
for the school through a drawing

Night was one of the sponsored
events which provided a fun
evening event for the community.
The money earned went toward
phase two of the playground
improvement project which is to be
installed this summer. The council
was able to give each teacher $100
to spend on classroom supplies and
provided meals for teachers during
conferences.
The Site Council discussed

their financial and voluntary
support they were able to provide
for special activities for students,
parents and staff.

back to school student/parent
night. They provided staff with
refreshments during the two
Parent/Teacher conferences. This
year they helped purchase supplies
to expand the playground for the
Annual Report 2006-2007

list. The council supported the two
book fairs which help provide
books and money for the Towanda

The Circle District Educational
Foundation was created in 1999 for
the purpose of providing private
funding for the Circle School
District. It is a non-profit 501(c)3
tax-exempt corporation and all
donations to the foundation are
tax deductible.
Donations to the Circle District
Educational Foundation are invested in the Foundation’s General
Endowment Fund which will
provide continuous income for
academic excellence in the future.
Some of these dollars are used to
fund the Foundation’s Teacher
Grant Program.
This year the Foundation was
able to award eight grants to
teachers totaling $2589. Those
grants were awarded to: Dan
Mattern – Spectroscopy; Elaine
Baker – Prevention/Understanding
and Helping; Noel Ronnebaum –
Cooking With The Alphabet;
Shannon Sommers and Jason
Annual Report 2006-2007
Patty – Who Wants To Be A
Millionaire; Cindy Schaker –
Mean Girls; Sara Burch – Learning
With My Family; Judy Haynes –
Getting to Know You; and Al
Sersland – Failure Is Not An
Option.
The Circle District Foundation
encourages patrons and friends of
USD 375 to make tax-deductible
contributions to the Foundation’s
General Endowment Fund.
Individual or group contributions
of $2,000 or more in a three year
period qualify for naming and
specifying a new “special”
endowment fund.
By making a gift to an
established fund, or by creating a
new one, you can:
• Enrich a specific area of
curriculum
• Encourage creative efforts
• Enhance classroom projects
• Provide library resources
• Support faculty development
• Purchase equipment
• Recognize student achievements
Persons interested in planned
giving should consider memorial
gifts, tributes, trusts, or making
provisions in their wills. Gifts of
stocks, bonds, real estate, and
other appreciated assets are also
accepted by the Foundation.
For more information on how to
make tax deductible contributions to the foundation, please
