U.S. Postage PAID Towanda, KS 67144 Permit #1 Message from the Superintendent June 2007 Issue 4 V olume 37 Volume FOCUS AnnualReport A theme this year in Circle District has been to focus on our stars, our students, our staff and our patrons. Throughout this Annual Report you will read the names of many of our stars. Here are just some for which we are most proud: • Our kindergarten students extended their skills in reading and math through the district’s All Day Kindergarten program. The teachers reported that higher numbers than ever were reading by Christmas! This was the first year for the Circle District to offer All Day Kindergarten. • Our patrons went to the polls in November and passed an $18.9 million bond issue to provide improved facilities throughout our district for our students. All projects have moved into the design development phase and bids will be taken for the following in August: New addition to CMS Expanded parking at BGS and OHS Remodeling of TIS New baseball/softball complex at CHS • Our Board of Education approved a finance plan from Capital Outlay funds to provide a new multipurpose synthetic turf field for our soccer, football, PE, band and youth sport programs. This solution will provide a home soccer field without building a new competition field for this sport while lowering the district’s maintenance expenses. • The new, expanded and/or remodeled areas are for our future stars. We sincerely thank all who have made these improvements possible for our students. • All Circle District schools received full North Central Accreditation (NCA) earning the maximum number of points for the documentation and presentations at their accreditation review. • One hundred and twenty-one seniors graduated from Circle High School on May 20th. As a service project these students raised more than $1500 for students in Greensburg, Kansas. Miss Kansas, Michelle Walthers (Circle High School graduate in 2004) presented the graduation message. On the following pages are more many team and individual stars. Some to note: • Our 8th grade Girls Basketball Team went undefeated for this year playing in the Walnut Valley Middle School League. • Fourteen Circle High students qualified, competed and earned sixteen I ratings at the State Forensics Competition. • The Circle High School Engineering Team placed 1st in the State SkillsUSA Competition and will compete at Nationals in Kansas City in late June. • Towanda Primary Teacher Amy Stull received the Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year Award along with $1000 for her school. • Four Circle District bus drivers Kim Swinson, Heather Tucker, Ginger Wieckhorst, Juanita Freed qualified for the State Bus Road-e-o Competition in June in Salina. • Circle Middle School Science Olympiad Team received 17 medals in regional competition qualifying them to compete at the State Science Olympiad where they received seven medals. This is just a short list of the many, many achievements of our students, staff and patrons of Circle USD 375. Each and every day our teachers and staff are discovering and “polishing” stars in each of our students. Circle District continues to be A Great Place to Learn and – A Great Place to Work.
