Accreditation: Southern Association of Colleges and Schools The Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology (GSMST) is a charter school that opened in fall 2007 as a part of Gwinnett County Public Schools. We are proud to be a member of the National Consortium of Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science and Technology (NCSSSMST) and emphasize a rigorous curriculum focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). JFE and SCE are graduation requirements for GSMST students and adhere to strict requirements regarding rigor, time commitment, and use of STEM skills. Students participate in off-campus internships within companies and universities. Students can also choose to focus on a curricular area of interest and complete in-depth original research and projects. Junior Fellowship Experience – This intensive internship and research program partners university and industry experts with the class of 2014 to complete work assignments and research projects. Examples of research topics and fellowship locations include the following: “Heme Pocket Residues in a Globin Coupled Sensor”, Emory University “Elastic Cloud Encoding Platform”, Cisco Systems Senior Capstone Experience – The yearlong SCE requires students to apply their knowledge to a research-based project or career internship to emphasize the skills learned at GSMST. At the end of the year, all students will defend a portfolio of their work before a panel of business leaders and educators. Examples of SCE projects conducted last year: “Robotic Mimicry - Kinect-IC Dancing Robot", at Georgia Tech "Corporate Social Video Sharing for Customer Support", at Cisco Systems "Research of Transition Metal Ligand Complexes to Enhance Chemical Behavior of Earth Abundant Metals", at Emory University Class Rank As an accelerated, STEM-based school, GSMST encourages our students to challenge themselves with innovative research and studies. We believe that our students’ levels of achievement are not fully communicated by using class rank as a singular transcript statistic. Therefore, GSMST chooses to emphasize other methods of academic distribution.
