iPoint-systems.com english Automotive Compliance Agent Environmental Product Compliance Compliance – could it be any easier? Compliance is simple to define. In business language it refers to compliance with laws, guidelines and customer specifications, but also optional codes in businesses. In Germany, compliance is also sometimes synonymous with “rule monitoring” or just “supervision”. The hardest part is meeting demands, with many companies struggling to fulfill compliance regulations. Rising demands No question about it – customer demands are increasing almost daily. Legal requirements are also becoming more and more complex and often change in no time at all. This has wide-ranging consequences: Optimizing processes while at the same time implementing compliance regulations represents a huge challenge for any company. Sisyphus? With every change of supplier and each new or modified product the game plan has to start again from square one – like Sisyphus and his never-ending journey up the mountain. • Which information is required? • Has information already been requested – if so, who requested it? • Who has which information to hand? • What is the current status? 2 The solution: The iPoint Compliance Agent The iPoint Compliance Agent uses intelligent integration technology to ensure that the materials used comply with product-related, legal and individual requirements. These requirements include ELV (End-of-Life Vehicle), the different characteristics of RoHS (Restriction of certain Hazardous Substances – limits the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic devices) and REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization of Chemicals). The Compliance Agent also helps meet environmental requirements like RRR (Recycling, Reuse, Recovery), DfE (Design for Environment) and LCA (Life Cycle Assessment). Listing all materials used by automotive manufacturers and suppliers is a huge task considering that around 10,000 components are implemented in each model. Automotive manufacturers have developed the “International Material Data System” (IMDS) to comply with legal requirements. All suppliers participating in the manufacturing process of a vehicle have to transfer their material data into this system. This includes ensuring that the data is accurate and complete. These mainly manual processes are costly, time-consuming and prone to errors. On top of that, specific OEMs also have additional portals that require data (e.g. PSA). This severely tests value chains. With iPoint Material Database Solutions (iMDS), you have the tools for ideally configuring and automating your ELV processes which cuts costs considerably. > Internal material database for the ELV process > Process efficiency and data quality via integration > One-time data transfer and consolidation > Synchronization and review of compliance supported by system > Helps you keep up-to-date and meet deadlines > MDB “Just in Time” = increased customer satisfaction 5 Reach REACH The European chemical directive clearly states guidelines: manufacturers and importers have to preregister all secondary materials, subject to reporting. This creates a lot of work and pressure particularly on the SME suppliers and provides many recommendations for Automotive, Aerospace and Electrical / Electronics Industries: The AIG (Automotive Industry Guideline) already identified an industry specific process model for REACH and leads the way. What’s missing? An intelligent solution to automate the REACH implementation, process and integrate seamlessly into different system environments. But there is a solution and more than 30 companies are already using it – the iPoint Compliance Agent. This intelligent software system considers the entire process, from end-to-end. It analyzes, supports, automates and monitors all REACH processes and provisions. The result is a smooth and effortless process providing many companies with an edge in today´s competitive business environment. iPoint’s wide-ranging industry and technical know-how together with its close cooperation with users during the development phase guarantee a compliance tool that is as refined as it is intricate. REACH then becomes a walk in the park for your companies: Those who choose iPoint Compliance Agent are providing their company with an out-of-the-box REACH solution. > Maintains REACH legal entities > Authorization concept geared specifically towards REACH > Maintaining and taking advantage of important long-term REACH contacts in the supply chain (single point of contact) > Flexible application and management of risk factors in cases of substance or supplier shortages > Automated request for missing documents and information with corresponding cock pit function and documentation > Reviewing SVHC materials and intended releases > Checking security datasheets and commitments in the supply chain > Substance, mixture and product related definition of the role of manufacturers, importers or downstream users 6 Play it safe with RoHS The European Union’s RoHS guideline (Restriction of certain Hazardous Substances) prohibits the use of certain materials in electrical and electronic devices. All suppliers have to ensure that their products comply with RoHS requirements. Those who play it safe don’t always have it easy, as this guideline alone controls the use of numerous materials: From cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium to so-called polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers right down to lead. What’s more: The implementation of guidelines may be based on EU legislation, but the requirements still apply throughout the world. The Compliance Agent provides answers to all RoHS questions: With its material database and the Compliance Agent Modul iPCA/CSI (Compliance and Substance Inspector) existing information can be easily and conveniently reviewed at the click of a mouse. Even if additional EU guidelines come in force, iPoint’s intelligent agent technology is always able to automatically access the latest data. A further advantage: When it comes to RoHS and other guidelines, the Compliance Agent guarantees both compliance with legal regulations and process optimization. It simply delivers consistent products and provides answers to customer demands with the minimum of manual work and time. > Maintaining RoHS legal entities > Extensive material database > Automated access to current data via CSI > Guaranteed process optimization with huge time and cost savings > RoHS consistent products 7 In accordance with RRR The Reusability / Recyclability / Recoverability directive (RRR) governs the recycling and reusability of materials in the production and recycling of vehicles. The WEEE guidelines specifies appropiate demands towards manufactures of electrical and electronic devices. With iPoint’s Compliance Agent, this will collate the necessary information and simulate the various recycling processes. This allows recycling or reusability quotas to be achieved. Also iPoint’s system will identify detailed material information for RRR and WEEE compliance requirements. The physical removal of prototypes will no longer be required with the Compliance Agent. The system simulates different processes, offering complete support in defining pre-treatment, disassembly and shredding procedures together with documenting the material flow for all processes. The software calculates RRR quotas in accordance with ISO 22628 for the Automotive Industry along with associated reporting of which is also being developed to comply for the same standards within the Automotive Industry and Electrical / Electronic Industries. Complete products (such as a vehicle) can be managed in a single 8 process with a few clicks of a mouse. The iPoint solution allows a flexible expansion with DfE and LCA modules. >Integrating internal and external systems > Consistent handling > Meeting deadlines > Tool based support > Support tool for automated communication > Changes in requirements > High customer satisfaction Why iPoint? “Because you no longer have to “iPoint provides good “The cooperation with iPoint is software covering lines. iPoint makes everything so many aspects of a much faster and is always right.” business.” going really well. With the iPoint Sustainability Agent managing regulations such as DfE and LCA is made simple. But what are they really about … Lifecycle Assessment (LCA)? Which and how many raw materials are needed for manufacturing a product? Which ones are required for related intermediate products? And which raw materials are used in turn for packaging and transporting raw materials, for products in all their various stages and for their recycling and disposal? Complex questions that Lifecycle Assessment can answer: LCA is a method for determining the “ecobalance” of a product. This is carried out by systematically analyzing environmental effects during the life of a product. That way companies get an overview of potential environmental risks and weaknesses as well as ideas about potential improvements. “You can always rely on iPoint, as they are dynamic, flexible, reliable and accurate – with iPoint, software development is fun again.” Hans-Peter Roitsch, Mahle Design for Environment (DfE)? DfE is a collective term for technologies that allow products to be designed in an environmentally friendly way. To be more precise: With Design for Environment, environmentally friendly components and services should be taken into account even before a product is manufactured. The aim: Innovative products that remain cost-effective and have fewer negative environmental impacts during the entire product lifecycle. Environmental impacts encompass all positive or negative changes to the environment that come about wholly or in part as a result of a company’s products, services or business activities (definition according to EMAS). Negative impacts include contributing to the greenhouse effect, ozone depletion and the use of resources such as human and environmental toxicity. 11 © iPoint-systems gmbh © iPoint-systems gmbh Ludwig-Erhard-Straße 52-56 Ludwig-Erhard-Straße 52-56 72760 Reutlingen 72760 Reutlingen Germany Germany Phone +49 (71 21) 1 44 89-60 Phone +49 Fax +49 (71 21) (71 21) 1 44 89-60 1 44 89-89 Fax +49 (71 21) 1 44 89-89 info@ipoint-systems.de info@ipoint-systems.com www.ipoint-systems.com www.ipoint-systems.com Issue: 10/08 12
