National Certificate in Computing [Level 3] 2016 For New Zealand Citizens & Permanent Residents The National Certificate in Computing [Level 3] is a part-time programme providing the next step for those who have completed the National Certificate in Computing (Level 2) or for those with the equivalent of Level 2 computing skills. You must complete the programme within 48 weeks. The National Certificate in Computing (Level 3) is designed to: ■■ Recognise an intermediate level of computing skills ■■ Provide a qualification for employment ■■ Provide a stepping stone to diploma or degree level study. The programme consists of 10 unit standards. When you enrol, you will be enrolled into the first unit standard only. When you have successfully completed this first unit, you will enrol into the next cluster unit standard and be issued the next workbooks. This process will continue through the 10 unit standards. Facilities Computer facilities at EIT are provided by the IT Services Department. Every student has a login ID, also called a username and password. This login allows you to use any computer connected to EIT’s computer network at your preferred EIT location. Your username allows full access to the Internet. On completion students may be eligible for the National Certificate in Computing Level 2 (Apply directly to NZQA) Entry criteria Entry into this programme is for people who have the National Certificate in Computing (Level 2) or equivalent skills. you CANNOT fail. You will merely get information on your literacy and numeracy skills. The result will NOT have an impact on any of your assessment marks in your course work. English language entry requirement Assessments If English is not your first language you are required to have attained an acceptable level of English language fluency. The programme will be assessed in line with NZQA requirements. All assessments will take place in scheduled assessment sessions at any of the EIT locations. You will be given a schedule of these sessions when you have enrolled. Entry with credit If students have already completed one or more unit standards in this programme they will be able to use them for this qualification. Please advise us if you have cross credits when you enrol, so that you are not enrolling into units you may have already done. Class times No set class times. Literacy and Numeracy skills A literacy and numeracy assessment is part of the preparation for all level one to three programmes. This is a national requirement from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC). This information gives your tutors information on what your literacy and numeracy needs are and help provide any help that you may need in your studies. There are two literacy and numeracy assessments. The first assessment will take place within the first three weeks of the programme. The second will be a week or two before you finish the programme. This final assessment will indicate how you have improved with your Literacy and Numeracy skills. There will always be a tutor to help you when you are doing the literacy and numeracy assessment. The most important thing to know about this assessment is that WORLD CLASS ‘A’ RATED LECTURERS EIT lecturers have the latest knowledge and research in their field of expertise, and are able to attract all-important research grants.
