Installation of Inset and Elevated Fittings Housing of Isolating Transformers FAA Type Deep Bases The FAA type deep bases are used to : - Make ground fixing of Elevated or Inset fittings (with or without housing of the corresponding isolating transformer). See Fig 1 and Fig 2 - Make underground housing of Isolating Transformer(s). See Fig 3 - Make underground housing cables Junction(s). See Fig 4 DOC 1403.E Revision 1.0 01/12/02 Utilisation . Isolating Transformers Housing and Ground Fixing of : - Inset Fittings - Elevated Fittings . Underground Isolating Transformers or Junctions Housing Compliance with standards . FAA : AC 150/5345-42C L-867, L-868 and E-1315 LB-1, LB-4, LB-4A Depending on the characteristics of the installation, type of fittings to support (elevated or inset), Location on the field (withstand or not aircraft or vehicle loads) and type of pavement (cement concrete or flexible), these deep bases are available in four types : FAA L-867, one piece FAA L-868, Multiple sections FAA L-868 and FAA LB All these FAA type deep bases are made of hot galvanised steel. Their bolt, nuts and fixing elements are stainless steel. They can be equipped with grounding lugs upon request A special Jig allows each base to be level, oriented correctly and maintain in its final position during installation. FAA Type Deep Bases Accessories for FAA types Deep Bases Spacer Rings These rings allow the base installation to be adjusted. They are installed between the base top flange and the light fitting or other accessory. All available types of spacer accessories are the following : Flat Spacer Rings : used to provide height adjustment for L-867 and L-868 type bases. Thickness from 1/6” (1.6 mm) to 115/16” (49 mm). Grooved Spacer Rings : Comprise of an O ring gasket used to provide a more watertight seal with an inset fitting. Thickness from 1/4” (6.4 mm) to 1-15/16” (49 mm). Tapered Spacer Rings : Is use to provide a level and/or height correction for L-868 type bases. Greatest thickness at a maximum of 3/4” (19 mm) and thickness at a minimum of 1/4” (6.4 mm). Azimuth Correction Rings : Used to correct the base alignment Standard thickness of 3/4” (19 mm). Extensions They are used to provide adjustments when exceeding the Spacer Ring depth. Minimum depth of 2” (51 mm). Plates and Plain Covers Cover Plate : Provides a cover to bases when used without light fitting top. Mud Plate : Is used with plywood covers to protect the base flange during installation and to facilitate easy location after installation. Plywood cover and shipping gasket : Are used to protect bases during shipping and installation.
