Frontiers in Gastroenterology
Saturday and Sunday, November 14 & 15, 2015
Nemacolin Conference Center
Farmington, Pennsylvania
sponsored by
Division of Gastroenterology
Allegheny General Hospital
Allegheny Health Network
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Intended Audience
This conference is intended for gastroenterologists, surgeons, internists, endoscopy RNs and
technicians interested in advancing their knowledge in gastroenterology and therapeutic
endoscopy.
Conference Overview
Gastrointestinal and hepatic disorders are extremely prevalent conditions which can lead to
chronic morbidity in many affected individuals. Advances in the field of gastroenterology
and advanced endoscopy continue to develop at a rapid rate. These are exciting times in
gastroenterology and hepatology given the therapeutic advances we are able to offer our
patients. Having a detailed knowledge of widely prevalent gastrointestinal conditions allows
practitioners to develop a comprehensive treatment strategy for their patients.
This conference is designed to provide an overview of common gastrointestinal conditions
and focus on clinical advances in these situations. It is also designed to showcase some of the
most current advances in therapeutic endoscopy with special attention to pancreaticobiliary
procedures. Using both didactic sessions and live endoscopy feeds, the latest developments
in the fields of gastroenterology, hepatology and advanced endoscopy will be showcased.
Opportunities for the audience to interact with the faculty will be provided and encouraged.
Conference Objectives:
• Provide an overview of basic and advanced endoscopic approaches to gastrointestinal
disorders
• Discuss role of dye staining to enhance endoscopic diagnosis
• Identify indications, contraindications and techniques for stent placement in luminal
obstruction of the GI tract
• Understand anatomy and pathology of esophageal cancer and their implications for
surgical therapy
• Discuss surgical approaches to bariatric interventions
• Better utilize wireless capsule endoscopy in the diagnosis of small bowel disorders
• Evaluate the role of cholangioscopy in the management of pancreaticobiliary disease
• Select therapeutic alternatives to individuals with CROHN’s disease, refractory to
conventional therapy.
