About LCBT
LCBT is a Specialist Vocational College, established in 1995 for Beauty, Retail, Holistic and related sectors and
remains the largest Beauty Therapy college nationally, widely renowned within the Beauty Industry. LCBT
has now expanded to offer a wide range of employability training, apprenticeships and a range of Health &
Fitness and Teacher Training courses.
LCBT has been directly funded since 2004 and currently has about 3,000 students passing through it each
year. It holds contracts with the Education Funding Agency (EFA) and Skills Funding Agency (SFA) for the
delivery of both classroom and workplace based learning.
LCBT achieved an OFSTED Grade 2 (Good) during its last inspection and holds the Matrix Standard for
Internal and External Advice, Information and Guidance and the Investors in People (IIP) Silver Standard.
LCBT is open all year and operates without term breaks. Courses start throughout the year and learners can
enrol and start their course during any month of the year
About the Teaching and Learning Department
The Teaching and Learning department is friendly, fast paced and an enjoyable department. This department
is responsible for providing a high standard of teaching and development to all learners, through an array of
different courses and strategies.
In order to achieve these high standards all members of the Teaching and Learning Department are required
and encouraged to develop and maintain up – to – date industry knowledge through further training and self
development.
The Teaching and Learning department provides high levels of customer service to both internal and external
clients. In order to achieve this it is important for all communication to be dealt with effectively, efficiently
and in a friendly yet professional manner at all times.
Purpose and Objectives
As a Beauty Therapy lecturer you will be responsible for a number of learners in the capacity of both tutor
and assessor. You are to support and guide the students at all time to ensure that the learning is fun,
interesting and appropriate. You are to guide them through the assessments, providing feedback to ensure
the learners develop their skills and have a clear understanding on their ILP’s and what is required of them to
complete their programme. You will be working within a team to help develop the course in terms of both
the delivery and techniques.
Main Duties - Lecturer
1. To be available to deliver formal scheduled teaching on subjects from the range of Beauty Therapy
courses on offer ranging from Level 1, 2 and 3 Diploma’s in Beauty Therapy and small awards at all
levels.
2. To achieve and be fully committed to LCBT retention and achievement figures of 92% retention and
success.
3. To obtain a record of ‘good’ lesson observations (in line with OFSTED/ALI grades) and aim to achieve
an ‘Outstanding’ performance.
4. Attend any relevant external events, conferences or workshops as required.
5. To attend all lessons 10 minutes before start time so as to be adequately prepared.
6. To correctly complete registration documents at the beginning of each class and keep these updated.
7. To report accurately on the progress of both individuals and groups and to forward these on to the
Programme Manager on a monthly basis.
8. To have a fully completed lesson plan before each lesson, evaluation to be completed after the
lesson. If teaching another group the lesson plans must be given to the appropriate tutor.
9. To engage all learners in the planning and delivery of lessons, ensuring that differentiation
techniques are employed in all lessons.
10. Thoroughly guide learners through their portfolio building development at all stages of the course,
completing units when all the evidence has been achieved.
11. To contribute to the management of learning programmes and curriculum development.
12. To be flexible in working hours, working evenings and Saturdays when required.
13. To monitor learners at promotional activities.

14. To act as a group tutor to more than one tutor group at a time.
15. Keep all group tutor files up to date, with details of attendance, issues and learning support etc on a
weekly basis.
16. Accurately track all written assessments and practical assessments from your tutor group.
17. Witness and give accurate verbal and written disciplinary actions to learners in a timely fashion.
18. Act as the first step in the appeals procedure correctly and fairly if called upon.
19. Continuous assessment and action planning of learners portfolios throughout their programme and
final assessment in agreed two week’s time limit, ready for final IV.
20. Maintain correctly all college tracking systems.
21. To positively represent the college at all times.
22. Ensure all relevant paperwork and audit files are recorded and maintained as required.
Main Duties - Assessor
1. To hand in sampling to the IV throughout the life of the program
2. To work with and liaise with your Internal Verifier and provide requested sampling on time
3. Marking of learners assignments and examinations in agreed two week turn around with clear and
constructive feedback using the correct documents.
4. To follow all rules and regulations stated in the staff handbook and any addition policies within the
college and workplace, including assessment paperwork, salon tracking sheets and candidate log
books.
5. To follow and implement both the colleges Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities Policy at all
times.
6. To assess all units on both NVQ levels 1, 2 and 3 and to assess in other areas from time to time (if
have additional qualifications).
7. To arrive promptly to either the salon or workplace before the start time to organise paper work and
to provide feedback to learners in the agreed completion time.
8. To work responsibly on an individual basis with out being monitored or supervised.

9. To complete all paperwork accurately and neatly in accordance with the internal Verication
procedure. Ensuing that feedback is up to date and received as soon as possible.
10. Practical assessments must be carried out efficiently and to time, as the salon can become very busy
and the volume of work can be high.
11. To adhere to the standards, specifications and standardisation of techniques and procedures as set
out for Beauty Therapy for teaching both practical and theory.
12. To take part and complete all standardisation exercises as handed out and monitored by the IV team.
13. Invigilate online testing following AQF guidelines.
14. To attend weekly team meetings on time and carry out necessary actions from the minutes.
15. Submit group portfolio’s to IV within the 2 week timeframe in order to meet timely completion
16. To keep up to date with new products and services within the industry and maintain an annual
Continual Professional Development record (CPD)
General
1. Ensure the safety of your area by complying with all Health & Safety policies and procedures and
reporting any issues to the Health & Safety Manager without delay.
2. Work effectively, efficiently and flexibly as an effective and committed member of the overall college
team and within the department team.
3. Manage work efficiently and effectively to ensure achievement of individual and team targets.
4. Adhere to all established systems within the department and implement any changes only as
requested/authorised by management.
5. Provide clear feedback to management on either potential area for training not included within the
curriculum or student issues.
6. Ensure accurate record and data entry onto all systems as required by the department and
management to enable accurate and full reporting.
7. Attend meetings as required to maintain knowledge and contribute to the improvement of services.
8. Attend any training identified by your line manager or management as required to meet business
needs or professional development. Keep up to date in subject area and actively participate in staff
development.
9. Complete the required 30 hours CPD (pro rata) to comply with HABIA’s assessors requirements by
the 31st August every year.
10. Ensure all administration dutuies are carried out as outlined above during admin day.

11. Assume other duties in keeping with the role that may be required from time to time to cover
holiday or staff absence and have a flexible approach to workload/duties.

out other appropriate duties as may be required within the competencies of the post holder.
