The Mohawk Valley Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
(IEEE) will again be offering $500 engineering awards to recognize and reward high school
seniors who demonstrate outstanding talent in engineering related math and sciences. The
awards will be presented at the MohawkValley Engineers Executive Council (MVEECJ Annual
Awards Banquet on April 4th2013 in Utica NY. Last year's six STROM award recipients were:

Emily Potter, Proctor High School
Bianca Little, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School
Michael Fraser, St Regis Falls Central School
All these students clearly exemplified the spirit of this award.

Eligibilitv and Selection:
A minimum of three awards will be offered:
. College-bound high school senior(s)
. Attend high school in Oneida, Lewis, Herkimer, St. Lawrence, or Franklin counties, the township of Oneida in
Madison countSr, the village of Sherburne in Chenango county or the city of Cornwall, Ontario, Canada
. Witl enroll in a related field of electronic, electrical or computer engineering
Selection Criteria:

One leffer of recommendation - one from math/science department or from your counselor
Taken math, science, and/or electronics and computer classes
Applied to 2 or 4 year college in a related engineering field
This Engineering Recognition m,vard is named in honor of Charles A. Strom, a highly respected electrical engineer
throughout the world for his pioneering efforts and contributions in the art, science and practice of communications.
Charlie spent the last 47 years of his life in Central New York promoting and advocating engineering at work, through
professional activities, and as adjunct Professor at SWY Institute of Technologt. He held the distinguished grade of Lfe
Fellow of the IEEE, it highest grade, and was afounding member of many of its national level, technical societies. He was
a member and trustee of Rome Academy of Sciences, a member of Erie Canal Chapter of the Armed Forces
Communications and Electronics Association, and a member of the Rome Radio Club; he was an active, licensed Radio
Amateur Operator. This anard is in memory of him and his many contributions.
