Topics coved will include discrete amplifiers, operational amplifiers and special integrated circuits. Explain the physical properties and basic operations of diodes. Explain general amplifier concepts and analyze general amplifier systems Explain the physical properties and basic operation of BJTs Analyse and design simple biasing circuits for BJT amplifiers Use simplified device models and relationships to analyze BJT amplifiers for gain, impedance and frequency response. Explain the physical properties and basic operation of FETs Analyse and design simple biasing circuits for FET amplifiers Use simplified device models and relationships to analyze FET amplifiers for gain, impedance and frequency response. Explain the principles of operation of operational amplifiers, recognize several common application circuits, and analyze them for gain, input/output impedance, and frequency response. Use software to analyze and predict circuit operation Breadboard, troubleshoot, and test linear amplifiers, oscillators, timers and special function circuits. Use manufacturer’s data sheets to obtain device parameters Organize and present laboratory test results in a proficient manner Analyze electronic systems based on functional circuits. One will be loaned to you for the exam. You may wish to purchase one of your own in order to become familiar with its operation but the department’s calculator will be used during exams.
