JORDAN CIGRE NATIONAL COMMITTEE (JCNC) th The 7 Regional Conference and Exhibition of Cigre National Committees in Arab Countries 3-5 September 2007 TOWARDS AN ADVANCED ELECTRICITY SECTOR Under the Patronage of His Excellency the Prime Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Amman ١ WELCOME WORD On behalf of the Jordan Cigre National Committee (JCNC) and the National Committees of Cigre in Arab Countries (Egypt, Algeria, Arab Gulf, Libya) I have the honor to invite you to participate in the Seventh Regional Conference of Cigre that will be held in Amman, Jordan from the 3rd to the 5th of September 2007 under the Patronage of His Excellency the Jordanian Prime Minister. This important event will provide a unique opportunity to Cigre members and interested power system professionals to present their technical papers on their most recent advancements and product innovations. The conference will bring together Power System Engineers, Decision Makers and Academic Institutions in an open forum where all participants will have the chance to learn about the latest products and technological innovations in the Power Industry Sector. The organization of this conference and the associated exhibition that will be held in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan reflects the National Policy of His Majesty King Abdullah II; that is to promote Jordan as a regional leader for hosting conferences, seminars and workshops, as well as promoting exchange of knowledge and cooperation worldwide. I’m confident that this event will be a valuable contribution to the growth and development of the Power Industry Sector in our region. We are proud that our country is hosting this very prestigious event and look forward to your active participation. Dr. Ahmad Hiyasat JCNC Chairman ٢ Cigre in brief Jordan Cigre National Committee (JCNC) is one of 56 regional national committees, which emerged from the International Council on Large Electric Systems “CIGRE International” which is an international, non government, non-profit organization founded in France in 1921. “CIGRE International” is composed of a worldwide forum that covers all the main topics in the field of electricity. It unites all key partners by facilitating and developing the exchange of technical information between electrical engineers, research workers, universities, producers, manufacturers, system operators, and regulatory bodies. CIGRE develops technical knowledge using the following two methods: A. Through conferences, meetings and/or seminars, where papers are produced and discussed. B. Via permanent Study Committees that work on important technical subjects and publishing their findings. JCNC Mission Statement - To facilitate the exchange of the latest research carried out in the region on electrical power systems related to planning, operation, design, maintenance of H.V. equipment, protection of power systems, telecommunication and automation equipment and information systems. - To promote technical studies carried out by universities, electrical companies and other interested parties in the region in order to participate in CIGRE seminars and conferences. ٣ Jordan Cigre National Committee (JCNC) Membership: The JCNC was established in 1989, and is located in the head offices of the National Electric Power Company – Amman, Jordan. According to Cigre International rules the membership could be collective or individual. The collective members in JCNC are as follows: - Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. (MEMR) Electricity Regulatory Commission. (ERC) National Electric Power Company. (NEPCO) Central Electric Generating Company. (CEGCO) Electricity Distribution Company. (EDCO) Jordan Electric Power Company. (JEPCO) Irbid District Electricity Company. (IDECO) Yarmouk University. (YU) Jordan-Swiss Automation Services Ltd. (JSA) Samra Electric Power Generating Company. (SEPGCO) ٤ Objectives of the Conference: a- Enhance the cooperation and exchange of experience between Arab countries. b- Encourage technical research and studies in the electricity sector field. c- Enable free discussions on new ideas, developments, applications and practical experience to avoid occurrence of severe shutdowns and major incidents on electrical systems.
