New CfE Higher Study Guides 2014/15
For the first time this session Scottish schools will be completing the new CfE
Higher for the majority of subjects. In Wallace High, we are completing this for all
subjects except Politics (which we are offering for the first time to S6 only).
Similarly to last year, pupils and parents are keen to be informed regarding which
additional study resources will be available to pupils for these new courses. This
document aims to support with this.
As a school, we have invited additional bids from all subject areas with a view to
supporting resourcing for new CfE Highers. We are also in the process of
requisitioning additional study resources across the full range of courses for our
LRC. This will allow all students to access these reference resources in our Library.
What follows is a guide to some of these main support resources (not exhaustive).
We would always encourage pupils to ask specific subject specialists for further
advice on additional study, where required. Some subjects have always benefitted
from multiple additional study resources (such as English and Maths), whilst
others, by their nature, have traditionally relied more on internally produced
materials as their curriculum can be heavily specialised (e.g. Art & Design and
subjects within Design and Engineering).
As a starting point, completing a search on an online site such as Amazon will
produce a quick guide to what is available and the date of publication. There are
many guides available currently but more due throughout the year. Even if these
are not published until March, this will still give you additional resources just at the
time when they are most needed – so don’t panic if they are not all available yet.

in the search for ‘CfE Higher English’:
You can see in this search that there are already multiple study support resources
available that are all tailored for new CfE Highers. You can also search for these in
digital format – downloadable onto, for example, a Kindle or Kindle App for
smartphones or tablets, as seen in the search below:
The table that follows summarises some of the available resources for different
new CfE Highers (including websites). Remember that course information is
available for all courses on the SQA website (www.sqa.org.uk). If you are still
unsure, or wish to seek further support, please ask the class teacher or Faculty
Manager for your subject. They will always give the best, most up-to-date, advice
