1 Before you start, check that your Hub is ready
BT Vision is a TV service that uses your broadband line, so please
check that your BT Home Hub is ready – its Broadband light should
be glowing steady blue (for Hub 2.0 or 3.0), or green if it’s a Hub 1.0
or 1.5.
Also ordered BT Broadband?
If you prefer, we can arrange for an engineer to set up your
broadband and/or BT Vision for a small cost.
Just call us on 0800 876 6542 or go to bt.com/homeitinstall
Then just follow the simple steps in this section. You’ll need about
30 minutes to set up BT Vision.
Don’t worry if your Home Hub looks slightly different from the one
shown above, it’ll still work with BT Vision.
Important: do not turn on your Vision+ box until step 7
Do not insert your Sports Viewing Card (if ordered) until after
step 8. To find out more about using a Sports Viewing Card,
please see page 21

You can put your Vision+ box close to your BT Home Hub (see

However, the Vision+ box needs to be:
• Connected to a suitable aerial to receive Freeview channels
(e.g. external or loft)
• Close to a mains power socket
• Close to your TV or video recorder/DVD player (whichever you’ll
be connecting to)

one end to the LAN socket at the back of your Vision+ box
2 Then connect the other end to your Hub’s Ethernet port 1.

YOUR GUIDE TO USING BT VISION
3 Finding what you want to watch
6 Controlling your TV with the BT Vision Remote Control
You can operate your TV using your BT Vision remote control. Use it to
turn the TV on and off (standby), change channel, adjust the volume
and mute the sound.
To set your Vision remote you just need a couple of things:
First, find the four-digit unique code for your TV. Some of the most
common codes for the most popular TVs are in the table on the right.
However, if your TV make isn’t listed or the code doesn’t work, check
the full list available online at bt.com/vision/remotecontrol
Then:
Step 1 To set your remote to configuration mode, press and hold the
Vol + and Mute buttons on your remote for about five seconds
until the blue light flashes three times.
Step 2 Let go of the buttons and type in the four digit code for your TV.
Step 3 If you entered a valid code, the blue light on your remote will
flash three times. If you entered a code incorrectly or used an
invalid code, the blue light will flash for one second after you
type the last digit of the code.
Step 4 Once you’ve entered a correct code, test the remote by turning the
volume up and down and pressing the Mute button. If the buttons
don’t work properly, repeat the steps above using another code.
Step 5 To further test your remote, press and hold the Mode button
while trying the Channel +/- buttons and the On/Off buttons.
Step 6 If the TV doesn’t react, start again from Step 1 with the next code.
16
Your Guide To Using BT Vision
If your BT Vision remote control now operates your TV correctly,
that’s it. It’s configured and you don’t need to do any of this again.
Plus, you don’t need to repeat this process when you change your
remote’s batteries, as the code will be stored in its memory

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
2 Freeview and Sports channels
Channels frequently appear and disappear from the channel list
• If you find that channels you watch frequently appear and disappear, you
may live in an area that has variable Freeview quality
• Your BT Vision+ box automatically picks up changes to the Freeview
channel line-up, so once you have performed a channel scan that lists the
channels that you watch, you should consider turning off the Automatic
Freeview Channel Update feature
• To turn off this feature, go to your BT Vision Menu > Settings > TV Settings
> Automatic Freeview Channel Update, and then select Automatic
Freeview Channel Update Off
• If you turn channel updating off, you’ll still be asked to do a manual
channel scan when your BT Vision+ box detects any changes
I don’t have any sound:
• Check all your cables are firmly in place
• Reboot Vision+ box by holding down the Power button on the front of the
box until it turns red. Then press the Power button to restart the box.
• Check the volume on your TV is not muted
• Try another channel to see if sound is missing from all channels
• Try watching an On Demand trailer to see if the sound is working
For more information on how to set up surround sound go to page 24
Still having Freeview problems, what support is available?
TSG are our preferred partner for helping fix problems with your aerial system.
TSG offer a comprehensive signal assessment service which can help identify
technical issues with your aerial system as well as offering professional advice on
how best to fix any reception problems. TSG Aerial Engineers can help fix your
existing aerial system (Aerial, Cabling, Boosters etc) as well as offering a full
range of new Digital Aerial Upgrades. (Please note this is a chargeable service.)

I’m getting a CO error code on screen
BT Vision requires a working broadband connection when setting up the
Vision+ box for Freeview or On Demand. The broadband light on your hub
should be solid (not flashing). Check the Ethernet cables are firmly in place
(see pages 5 and 6).
If you’ve ordered your Broadband and BT Vision at the same time make sure
Broadband is set up first. (This could be up until Midnight on the day your
broadband is due to go live.)

Power-saving modes
Your Vision+ box has a couple of features to reduce energy consumption. These are:
• When it goes on standby, its hard disk stops spinning after a minute (unless it’s recording)
• If you’ve left your Vision+ box on and aren’t using it, it goes on standby after eight hours
What do I do if I move home?
For more information on moving with BT Vision please visit bt.com/vision/movinghome
The Power light on the front of your Vision+ box indicates the current power-saving mode:
Blue
Full power
On and operating, eg: recording
Purple
Active
Standby
On standby but recordings and software update will still take
place. Put your Vision+ box into standby by pressing the On/Off button on the remote control or a short press of the On/Off button on the front of your Vision+ box. Press either
On/Off to switch the unit back on to full power – it takes the Vision+ box a few seconds to respond.
Red
Your Vision+ box is effectively off, recordings will not take place.
Low power/ To use low-power mode, press and hold the On/Off button on
the front of your Vision+ box until the Power light flashes red.
Off mode
To turn it on again, use the On/Off button on your Vision+ box
(the remote control is inoperative in this mode). When you press
the button, your Vision+ box will take a few seconds to begin
starting up and will be ready when the Power light is solid blue
(this can take about a minute).
