3.01
FIXTURE CONNECTIONS
A.
Connect to plumbing fixtures and equipment provided under this and other sections of
specification, architectural drawings, and manufacturer's shop drawings. Provide rough-in
connections as shown on drawings.
B.
Use schedule and details on drawings or manufacturer's shop drawings for connection sizes to
fixtures.
C.
Connect wall hung urinals to waste piping with red brass nipples.
D.
Provide separate p-trap for each fixture, floor drain, and piece of equipment.
E.
Provide cast iron p-traps under floor drains.
F.
Provide deep seal traps under floor drains in air conditioning unit plenums, walk-in cooler and
freezer units, storage rooms, toilet rooms, and elsewhere as indicated on drawings.

Where required by local or state energy codes, provide H.W. flow limiting devices to
lavatories/sinks in accordance with ASHRAE 90.1-2004.

The activating handle shall be no higher than 69" above finished floor.

Location of shower shall be within a well-lit area, marked with a sign, within 10 second
travel time (approximately 50-100 feet), on the same level as the hazard with the route
free from obstructions.
6.
Shall be activated in one second and remain operationally hands free once activated.
7.
Standard wall-mount showers do not meet the criteria for an emergency shower.
8.
A floor drain shall be located at every emergency shower location.

Emergency Eye/Face Wash Stations:
1.
Shall be capable of flushing both eyes simultaneously.
2.
Shall deliver a low pressure/velocity flow that will not cause additional injury to the user.
Shall be provided with dedicated pressure regulating device as required to accommodate
desirable operating pressure.
3.
Nozzles shall be protected from airborne contaminants by use of protective covers. The
covers shall be easily removable, and not require a separate action by the user.
4.
Shall be constructed of material that will not corrode in the presence of flushing fluid.
5.
Shall be supplied with tepid (max. 85 degrees F) potable water.
6.
Shall be capable of delivering not less than 0.4 gpm for eyewashes and 3.0 gpm for
eye/face washes for a minimum of 15 minutes.
7.
Water outlet heads shall be between 33" to 45" above finished floor and at least 6" from
the wall or nearest obstruction.
8.
Location shall be within 10 second travel time (approximately 50-100 feet), on the same
level as the hazard with the route free from obstructions.
9.
Shall be activated in one second and remain operationally hands free once activated.

TESTING AND CLEANING
Inspect and test work to insure that it is installed in accordance with drawings and specification
and is functioning as designed. Test procedures and pressure as required by other sections.
